About Ally Coulter

Ally Coulter is an interior designer that creates high-end residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces in the United States and abroad. The Boston native formerly served as the Vice President and Creative Director of Luxury Living Group, an Italian company whose portfolio of brands included Fendi Casa, Bugatti, Versace, and Bentley Home. She’s been featured in prestigious publications including Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, Galerie and Business of Home. “I look to the past—in fashion, architecture, and interior design—when creating spaces for today,” says Coulter. “They’re layered, confident, and refined, but not showpieces. Instead, they’re fun, sexy, and comfortable.”

Cape Cod

This Cape Cod home sits on an enviable spot, perched on the ocean, with magnificent views. Ally Coulter Design supervised an architectural renovation that opened up the home to the ocean, as well as creating all the interior spaces. Interesting touches include walls upholstered in outdoor fabric in the great room, and custom furniture created in a workshop known for crafting Steinway pianos.

172 MADISON AVENUE

Madison Avenue, New York

Coulter created a model room in the penthouse of this 33-story luxury new build in Manhattan’s buzzy Nomad neighborhood while as the Vice President and Creative Director of Luxury Living Group. It was primarily furnished using pieces from Fendi Casa and was rumored to have sold the day it debuted.

Carriage House

Greenwich, Connecticut

This 5,500 square-foot 1869 house on the Connecticut waterfront was restored by Coulter with the aim to keep the classic architecture—including original lead windows—but bring the house into the present day. Highlights include a Fendi Casa kitchen that melds an ultra-modern look with antiques from Ann Morris, a custom kitchen and dining table by Coulter, and antique light fixtures sourced from around the globe.

Holiday House 2012

New York

Coulter created a room for a “modern day James Bond” for this designer showhouse benefiting breast cancer research, inspired by historic London gentleman’s clubs. She furnished the wood-paneled library (which boasted lead casement windows) with pieces from the Ralph Lauren Brook Street collection, adding fun accents including a comically long, yet fully functional, antique firearm hung over the fireplace.

Marston Mills

Cape Cod

A sprawling home on the Cape Cod waterfront, for a client with subtle sophisticated taste, this project became a study of hues and finishes. Coulter looked to the colors outdoors for inspiration indoors, incorporating creams and blues, with streamlined mid-century antiques and custom sofas.

W Hotel Residence

Boston, Massachusetts

A model room designed for the ultimate bachelor pad that Coulter dubbed the “Dark ‘n Stormy.” Located at the W Hotel Boston Residences, the room is a mélange of antiques, pieces from Ralph Lauren Home, custom cabinetry and furniture (including a motorized coffee table that doubles as a dining table), and original art.

Plaza Hotel Residence

New York

A sprawling apartment in one of New York City’s most iconic hotels, this was created for a young family in collaboration with Versace Home. Coulter chose a classic color palette of black, white, and neutrals that showcased a subtler side of the iconic Italian brand to great success.

Newport Seaside

Newport

This 19th-century Greek Revival landmarked home was gut renovated by Coulter and filled with antiques sourced from around the globe. Coulter also designed and won approval to build a garage on the property, which included a suite for visiting guests.

Beverly Hills Georgian

Beverly Hills

Coulter’s one-time Los Angeles home, designed by legendary architect Paul Revere Williams, was restored and furnished to respect the time period. Coulter also designed the gardens and chose specimens to be planted in and around the Holmby Hills property.
