Can’t say enough about how great these are!

My first pair of ZakTrax Pro lasted over 20 years!!

I originally bought them when I was with a running club to wear over my running shoes. I just got my new pair this winter and rarely go outside without them.

I find it’s best to dedicate one pair of boots to use with them as they’re not easy to stretch in place, but stay firmly in place.

I bought small for the second time, but if I bought them again I’d buy medium, because even though I’m a usually 8.1/2 shoe size, these are on thick, heavy rubber boots called the Original Muck Boot Company size 9.

I have never slipped on ice with them (I live in rural Canada), and you scarcely feel them on unless you forget and walk inside on bare floors🤨.

A game changer when it’s icy outside!! I just bought a pair for my relative in the US that fell on the ice twice this winter…she loves them! Now she can enjoy the great outdoors! Honestly, I wish I could afford to buy them for everyone I care about.

My first winter in a state where snow exists, I tried to walk around with running shoes, and about faceplanted four or five times. After that, I did some research and Yaktrax constantly came up as a solution. After an entire winter of walking to work and being oblivious to traction requirements (along with one instance of winter hiking), I would heartily recommend these. Unless you're stepping on sheer ice, you can walk anywhere with near impunity. They slip a little when your toe comes off the ground and you move forward to transfer weight to your other foot, but it's immaterial because that foot isn't supporting weight at that point. They are fantastic for walking in snow/ice.

I would caution against using them for jogging/running, for the very reason above. They have no serious tip of the toe traction, so they will often slip on that motion. Not a problem when walking (other foot has got you covered) but when running you spend some time in the air not supported by either foot, and a slip there can cause a drastic loss of balance. Yaktrax does make running specific ones, but I cannot vouch for their efficacy.

If you use them regularly, these will last slightly less than a season. The metal coils wear down surprisingly quickly, but this is somewhat true of any product that you put your full weight on all the time. By the end of winter I was crimping and bending the busted coils with pliers to make them last until spring/summer. If you live in a perpetually snowbound area, they may not even make it through half of winter... so get two pairs.

The irony of Yaktrax is that while they increase your traction on many surfaces (concrete, snow, ice, etc.) they drastically reduce it on several indoor surfaces. On tile I have had to brace myself on one or two walls to prevent crashing to the ground. Works well enough on carpet, but after wear hits the coils, they will snag and stick in the carpet, making it even worse to walk on. Bring another pair of shoes to use for indoor use, or be prepared to take the Yaktrax off and on repeatedly. They are not easy to quickly remove or add to shoes (unless you are more nimble than me and that is a very low bar).

The short version is: Do you live in a place where winter occurs in short intervals? These will work well. Do you live in a place where Winter is a constant fact of life? You probably already have a solution.

Either way, if you can afford the expense (and they're not that pricey), you can stroll around during Winter with impunity.

I've used and loved Yaktrax and Yaktrax Pro for several years now, and wouldn't leave home without them in my purse (or on my feet). I recently purchased a pair of the Yaktrax Pro for a friend in Chicago, to help her through this year's very snowy winter... She loved them!

More recently, I purchased a pair of both Yaktrax Pro and ICEtrekkers for an elderly artist friend, to prevent him from slipping and falling during this season's miserable snowy weather in NYC, so he could try them both, and see which type worked better for him. He wore the ICEtrekkers home, and felt he could "walk like a normal person, with no fear of slipping." This has also been my experience with the Yaktrax and Yaktrax Pro...

Bending over to put either pair on and take them off...while wearing his shoes, was too difficult a task for him. What worked fine, however, was putting them on the shoes first, and then putting the shoes on. Since the Yaktrax require significantly more muscle power and coordination to stretch onto his shoes, he opted for the ICEtrekkers, which he was able to put on and remove with greater ease. The ICEtrekkers were also very comfortable to walk on, providing a more "normal" feel(the Yaktraks are "springy"...) and gave real confidence on icy surfaces. Yaktrax also weigh considerably less than ICEtrekkers, with their heavier chains.

CAUTION does need to be taken (with both ICEtrekkers and Yaktrax) when walking on non-frozen smooth or slick surfaces such as marble or tile floors, especially when wet...!

Yaktrax got four stars instead of five (ICEtrekkers) for three reasons:

1) Yaktrax are more difficult to put on, as they require considerably more strength to streatch them into place.

2) The regular Yaktrax have slipped off my boots on various occasions, and 3)the rubber webbing holding the springs has broken in several places. After losing several pair this way, I opted for Yaktrax Pro... So far, so good! They're unattractive with that broad strap (the regular Yaktrax are virtually invisible), but don't slip off; give you an even springier step from their larger coils; but they are definitely stronger! I have not personally tried the ICEtrekkers.

Great for ice/snow but be aware they have a short lifespan. I usually use microspikes but was living in Denver for a couple of months last winter, so bought Yaktrax. A little over a year later (maybe only 150-200 miles) a couple of the rubber straps broke and the metal coils on the bottom started getting dangerous (could hurt me or my pups). So, I tossed them and bought a new pair. I only expect them to last one year (Midwestern forests this winter).

We spend a lot of time outside in the winter, and here in the frigid north, ice is hard to avoid. It’s everywhere. I slipped and fell pretty hard about 2 weeks ago and it left me sore for days, so I looked into getting boots with ice spikes. I stumbled across these which are much, much cheaper.

First impressions, they were easy for my husband and I to put on our insulated Columbia boots. They are staying put but the rubber straps are quite tight. I am concerned about them breaking and noticed other reviewers mentioning to go a size up for thick boots. Wish I had seen this before because I could definitely see them snapping in their current state. I followed the sizing guidelines (size small for women’s size 8, size large for men’s size 12) and they are tight on both sets of boots. I definitely second the thought of going a size up for winter boots. I do wish the manufacturer had mentioned this. I noticed other brands of ice cleats do recommend a size up for boots, it just didn’t occur to me as I had never heard of these before buying the Yaktrax and did t think to order anything other than what the manufacturer recommends.

All that aside, they work very well. I was skeptical that these metal coils would do much of anything because I’ve lived in the north all my life and nothing has ever made walking on ice easier. But these really do!! My husband and I were so excited to get them, we strapped them on straight away and ran outside to the icy road and stomped all around. We must’ve looked ridiculous to our neighbors as each step we took without slipping elicited much joy. We tried very hard to slip and could not. These things are awesome.

As much fun as they are outdoors, they are clearly not meant for indoors. Tile floor was very slippery but we did not scratch them (even though we tried really hard). Walking on anything hard felt weird at first but we quickly adjusted. Walking on carpet didn’t feel different at all. It was important for me to test them briefly indoors because I intend to leave these on my boots for the entire winter without having to take them on and off every time I leave. I believe if I had ordered a size up for boots from the start, they’d be perfect. I really hope they add that to their sizing chart to avoid the hassle of exchanges. Other than that, we love our Yaktrax!!

So you remember that time you were at Thingvellir National Park in Iceland, you know the filming location to the entrance of the Eyrie from Game of Thrones, and EVERYONE was falling down, trying to see the frozen waterfalls, except for you because you strapped Yaktrax Pro's onto your duckboots? No? WELL I DO!

Sorry for the not-so-humble brag, but these Yaktrax Pros saved my bacon a number of times while exploring the frozen glaciers and tundras of Iceland. I ordered them a week or so before we left and thanks to my prime membership, they arrived with plenty of time for me to test fit them to duck boots. My boots are great at keeping my feet warm and perfect for exploring the urban jungles of Boston and climbing tall snowbanks, but their greatest weakness is ice. With a rubber sole and little tread, they love to go for slide on any slick surface. Not anymore.

The first day of exploring saw us at Thingvellir National Park and after taking only about 30 seconds per boot, my Yaktrax were installed and ready for trekking. The metal teeth make a satisfying CRUNCH as the bite into the ice and although it feels a little weird having the webbing underfoot at first, I got used to it quickly. The confidence these give on icy surfaces is incredible. People were slipping, sliding, and falling all of the over the place, including my wife in a pair winter hiking boots designed for ice! But I was stable a boulder, so much so that my wife clung to me the whole day and the Yaktrax Pros were strong enough to keep both of us upright. Not once over the course of the 5 days I wore them did they slip off the boot or fail to keep me safely on my feet. Walking on pavement and in shops wasnt any more difficult with them on, but i would recommend taking them off when entering someones home as they could damage hardwood floors I can imagine (but didnt witness.)

I have nothing negative to say about these cleats. They are affordable, comfortable, and most importantly work perfectly for outdoor adventures in the ice and snow. I would highly recommend them for anyone interested.

These pro traction spikes are great. They fit nicely over my boots, they haven't slipped off or broken, and they make walking on this awful ice so much easier. I am sorry that I didn't order them sooner. Not sure how long they will last, but for the time being, they are wonderful at this low price. They stretched very well over several styles of shoes and boots, and the tightening strap on top helps to keep them in place. Love them for this arctic winter weather, highly recommend them.

The rubber strap broke a week after writing the following review. I rigged it up and wore them the rest of the winter. I love the concept but they did not last. I did get about 40 miles of walking in before they broke which is better than many other reviewers got out of them. i recommend trying to make sure the chain wraps around the bottom of the shoe and not the rubber attachment so you avoid wearing out the rubber strap.

I bought these for walking my dog around my neighborhood. My street is a one mile neighborhood loop in Western NY that thanks to the towns "sensible salting" policy is hazardous to drive on most of the winter but after plowing it becomes downright treacherous to walk on. I noticed immediately how great the traction both laterally and when taking big strides.

I was really sold on it recently when it rained and then froze the next morning in a sheet of black ice. My dog had difficulty getting good traction and the town truck came down a hill, lost traction and slid to a stop in a yard. I was able to walk full speed with full confidence and didn't slip once. I was really impressed.

Good:

They are easy to put on or take off and seem well built.

They fit well on my size 12 work boots without much trouble stretching over them.

Bad:

Warning:

There is no traction on concrete, tile, etc... they slip on my concrete garage floor and have had my foot slide out laterally but no harm. Just be careful on hard smooth surfaces. No problems on rougher asphalt.

They are loud on plain pavement. I recently misjudged how icy it would be in morning and the sound is annoying in the peace and quiet of the early morning. Minor complaints.

I am very pleased with this product and highly recommend them.

Eerst kreeg ik het verkeerde artikel. Dat werd hersteld. Ze passen, al is het moeilijk. Voor mij zo goed als onmogelijk om ze aan te doen omdat ze gewoon erg strak om de schoen moeten. Nouja, voor uiterste noodgevallen misschien.

Had to buy the pro versions due to my huge foot size. Actually glad I was forced to go that route, as the pros are a superior product construction wise to the standard Yaktrax. That's not to say the standards are bad, but these are just better built.

For snowy and icy conditions these make a huge difference. I'm a fully able person, but we started using these years ago (standard versions) for my wife and child who both had separate mobility issues, meaning traversing snow or ice would have a high chance of fall. When using these in appropriate conditions, neither of them have ever come close to fall again.

Je les utilise en milieu urbain quand les trottoirs ne sont pas déneigés et c’est hyper pratique. Une fois mis en place, on peut marcher normalement. Une fois arrivé, on les mets dans une poche et ils sont rangés.

Il faut cependant bien les placer, sans quoi, en marchant sur les parties sans metal, on peut abîmer la structure en caoutchouc.

Petit bémol par contre, sur les endroits sans neige, quand c’est un sol dur et lisse (grands pavés, marbre ou carrelage), comme la semelle de la chaussure ne touche pas le sol, ça glisse un peu.

Mais ça reste moins que ce qu’on risque en marchant sur neige.

Donc, on très bon produit.

Comodissimi perché non pesano niente dentro lo zaino e puoi portarli sempre con te. Se indossati sopra uno scarponcino/pedula si usa il valore più basso del range di misura, per una scarpa calza bene anche sul valore più alto del range. Li ho messi a mia figlia di 9 anni che su sentiero con neve e ghiaccio ha camminato bene. Nelle parti con ghiaccio in lastra compatta riusciva a camminare facendo un più attenzione rispetto a me che indossavo i ramponcini classici della camp. Per mia figlia sicuramente li preferisco ai ramponcini perché pesano molto molto meno nello zaino e perché non avendo punte sono più sicuri per ľ utilizzo da parte di un bambino. Anch'io li ho utilizzati con delle scarpe e li ho trovati comodi per camminare in quelle situazioni in cui i ramponcini sarebbero eccessivi (passeggiata ad inizio stagione quando il ghiaccio se c'è é poco spesso). Li utilizziamo anche per scendere con la slitta per frenare meglio su piste con tratti di fondo ghiacciato, in questo caso i ramponcini servirebbero solo a rompersi un ginocchio mentre questi yaktrax sono perfetti per aumentare ľ azione di frenata senza farsi male. Li ho comprati usati come nuovi per 15 euro, penso che il prezzo di 25 sia il prezzo giusto ma anche accettabile intorno ai 30-35 euro per chi va spesso in montagna a camminare o slittare. Sicuramente ne comprerò un altro paio anche per me.

I find the Yak Trax product to be the best of all that are available. Easy to install, light and very durable.

What with the salt used on the sidewalks today the rubber will eventually breakdown but mine lasted five years before this happened. Although I bought another pair I was able to repair the old ones with some bicycle tire tubing and Shoo Goo. A bit more expensive than some but what are your bones worth?
