Excellent Game. But Nothing Much New Here.
Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2016By this point unless you are living under a rock you have probably heard of Minecraft even if you have never played a video game. It has definitely entered pop culture. So maybe you’ve played it before. So is it worth it having on the Wii U? Well that depends on what your system of choice is.
If you don’t own it on any of the other ones it’s a good one. Not as big as the one on Xbox one. But still a lot of fun. I wish I could add stars to it because of the Wii U gamepad. After all, it’s nice that if someone is watching TV you can grab it and play most games still. But unfortunately this doesn’t work great with the Wii U. This is because you need a good size screen to be able to read the item names in the game. Even learning what they look like it’s hard to tell what you’re looking at. Doh!
As far as the game itself is, it’s fun as always. There are some nice nods to Mario since this is the Nintendo version. And there is a fun battle mode too. But in general it’s the same game.
If you like Minecraft it’s worth owning. If you never liked it, this will not change your mind. I personally enjoy playing it. Never gets old to me. So I can give it 4.5 stars. Just don’t go looking for something new. And don’t expect the gamepad to be as cool as it usually is on games. Then you won’t be disappointed.

Working together as a team is a lot of fun, and we have spent hours making a fortress ...
Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2016My kids have been into Minecraft for years, playing it on their tablets. I always just considered it a computer version of playing with Legos and never spent much time with it. This version for the Wii U changed that as I was finally able to play with them. Working together as a team is a lot of fun, and we have spent hours making a fortress and defending it. I took one star off because the game doesn't utilize the gamepad for inventory management and is priced higher than similar versions on other consoles. If you have another console, you should probably get it for that, but if you only have a Wii U, I highly recommend it.

Excellent Fun & Educational
Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2016I purchased this for my children who are 7 and 9 and they absolutely love it. I have tried Minecraft in a variety of platforms from iOS to multiple consoles and so far this version has been one of the most fun, with the largest variety of skin packs geared for children. Currently the kids are dressed up are a variety of people & animals (it changes daily) from the Mario world. The interface is easy to use with some basic reading and the ability to be in "creative" mode allows the kids to get materials, build and craft without the more hard "survival" setting so that they can be creative without being attacked. In addition, the ability to keep inventory on death and set the settings for each player connecting allows us to lock down the game so their worlds aren't destroyed and random people don't join their games, making it fairly secure for their play time.
As a game (Wii U or otherwise) Minecraft can be both fun and educational. My children learn to gather (or create) different resources to build a variety of items, they learn how to build both simple and complex areas and even "machines" using red stone and switches. They can learn the basics of commerce by having to trade items to the villagers as well. The game can be fun for both children and adults.

Limited update Minecraft on easily scratchable media not worthwhile
Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2018This version doesn’t get updates anymore. There is one last promised update which is he aquatic version but after that, no more. And really, the aquatic update has been very very late in being delivered.
This used to be a decent version of the game, but at this point, it’s trash. It’s printed on a very easy to scratch dvd, and once you have two or three almost indistinguishable scratches, nothing works anymore.
Save your money and if you really want a limited update version of Minecraft (which is a stupid idea from the get go) get he digital download. It’s less likely the Wii U drive will crash, than the disc will scratch up.

FUN Game
Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2017Fun Fun game.
I bought this for the kids on the WIIu saw ho much fun it was and got a PC version for my self.
Only down side is lack of multi player on the wiiu or the lack of being able to connect to the PC version. Would be nice if the two kids could play the game at the same time.
Edit March 2017 this game earned it last star from me... multi player is here. What I did was buy a second wii u and the two kids play side by side. They love it. Yes I had to buy a second copy, but we love our wii u and now the kids don't fight over the wiiu.
A cheaper option is to buy a pro controller and a split screen versions can be played in multiplayer. I had to Google this... so it could be more apparent.
Edit June 2017
Also we got this game on the switch and the switch is the ultimate portable version of this game.

Similar Game with Additional Worlds
Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2016I purchased this for my son (age 7) as an "end of the school year" gift and he has really enjoyed it. It is very similar to the iPad app from a visual perspective, but offers additional "worlds" for them to explore, such as Halloween and Super Mario World. I like that this game involves some creativity and strategy - he has even read the mine craft books to learn how to build new/better structures. I do limit his time playing video games, but this is nice on rainy days or at night after a busy day to wind down. I would also recommend to any parent who actually wants time to use their own iPad :)

Cute.
Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2016My kids were super excited to get this game. So we were sort of bummed when it came in and we couldn't do multi player without me googling to try to figure out the issue and finding out I needed to go buy the $50 pro remote. Made my fun little purchase a bit more spendy.... Other than that, my 7 year old boys are thrilled. Mario and minecraft? What could be better??

Kevin1 out of 5 starsHis face was a picture of pure joy when he opened on Xmas day
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 9, 2018Ordered this before Christmas as my little son really wanted it & was all he ever talked about.
His face was a picture of pure joy when he opened on Xmas day, HOWEVER, that joy was soon ruined when we realised it was an American version, sold by UKamazon, and therefore couldn’t play as different regions. Why does a UK company authorise the sale of an American, knowing it won’t work in a UK console.
I guess the small print was too small. Thanks.
