THE GOOD:

These little lights are bright! I was surprised at how bright they are.

They are also sturdy and seem fairly well built. They don't seem cheap at all. I bought two packs of these and have them spread out around the house, next to my bed, the front door, living room, everywhere I think I might be if power goes out.

I've also got one in my car and one attached to a backpack.

They fit perfectly in your hand, attached to a backpack or a travel bag, keep in your pocket, there are tons of places to keep them.

They are also perfect size to keep on your nightstand if you have a weapon that you need to grab in the middle of the night.

THE BAD:

Honestly, I haven't found anything bad about these flashlights yet. They are items that you don't really use that often, so nothing has come up.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS:

Yes.

I'd also suggest that you buy two or three of these at one time. Maybe even get four.

You will find several places in your home and car that you can keep these little things in case of an emergency.

These are also great for little gifts, stocking stuffers, etc.

It won't take up hardly any space and when the lights go out, you'll be glad you have these.

They are definitely better than cheap lights that I bought at Walmart that crapped out!

I didn't read the description very closely. Why bother? I've had little flashlights since the 1950s, right?

Except these don't use a single AA battery. There's a battery holder thart holds 3 AAA batteries. That means a dozen batteries are required. The holder doesn't have three batteries in parallel, but three in series, which means two fot forwards and one fits backwards. Pay close attention so that the spring for each is against the flat end of the battery

If you get a battery in backwards, you waste 2/3 of the energy in the batteries, and the light doesn't work.

If the battery holder is inserted upside down, it doesn't work, and it's really difficult to screw together. I finally figured out how to load batteries in all of them, and get them to work, but felt like an idiot for not being able to figure out a flashlight.

The batteries in series give a bright light, but a relatively short life. That goodness LED lighting is notoriously efficient. You'll go through a LOT of batteries if you use these much. Other reviews decry the worksmasnship, but miniflashes have always been poor quality, at least since the 1950s. The problem is the design, not the worksmanship, and if you don't force anything,they should last fairly long. The Maxworks 30204 3-1/2-Inch Nine LED Aluminum Flashlights, 8-Pack flashlights are actually cheaper despite the higher price, because they include batteries. One reason they're cheaper is that they come with zinc-carbon batteries instead of the alkaline batteries I used with these four. That doesn't just mean shorter life, but straight out of the package, thosew flashlights are only about half as powerful as these are with alkaline cells, after a week of use. The other flashlights have nice fit and finish, as do these, but the switch seems solid on these flashlights and thr other flashlights seem less so. (Once you've used up the origial batteries, you'll probably install alkaline cells, and the switches on the others may well last a L O N G time, despite my first impression. My point isn't that these are greart flashlights and those are terrible ones, but that they are both OK, and if you can use a less-bright flashlight, they are pretty much the same value.)

My eyesight is deteriorating due to macular problems, and I need really bright light to see fine print. A Fire handles that fairly well, and it's a shame I can't use the camera on it to magnify important mail. (Hint, hint, Mr. Bezos!) My magnifying glass has a light, but it wears down hearing aid batteries in no time flat. These flashlights help me live independently - and after a lifetime as an independent cuss, I'm not eager to beg for assistance!

I have read the reviews, maybe I got lucky or the QC got better but mine came with all the parts and they all worked just fine. I did see one suggestion posted here that is spot on- look down inside the tube and make sure the spring on the circuit board is positioned in the center of the tube for a tight connection to the battery pack. I just stuck my pinky in there and moved it slightly to center it up and they all work perfectly.

I think a lot of the intermittent problems occur from this spring not being seated properly on the battery pack, also when you put the batteries in, spin them a little to make sure they are seated in the battery pack snugly.

These are good for close up use, anything more than 10' the beam is easily washed out. I am using them in my car and bike for general use to look under the hood or around the bike so that is more close up work and these are perfectly suited for that.

In short, I am happy with this product as it does what I am asking of it and for a very reasonable price.

I've had the pack of 4 LED flashlights now for over a month now. Worked great when I got them, however with light use one flashlight has completely died. The others are working, however on one of them 3 of the LED lights are out. Is this a good product ? Yes, for the price. Would I buy them again ? Probably not. When working they are a good flashlight, and fairly bright. However, I would want something more reliable. Looks like they were made in China, the fit and finish are okay for the price, but be aware that in the pack of 4, your odds of the mall working, and long time working are slim. Just my opinion, that's all. Hope this helps someone.

I must say ByLight does read the reviews. I was contacted by their customer service department, and offered a replacement set for 0.10, yes, TEN cents ! I have received the new set, and all 4 of the flashlights are working as described. Seems this company really cares, and has outstanding customer service. I can only tell you my story, and I am completely satisfied. I have upgraded my review from 3 stars to 5 stars, simply for the outstanding customer service. ByLight didn't have to do this, but they did.

I bought these primarily because of the price - at just $2.50 each i figured, "How can I go wrong?" Seems like every time we go camping we lose flashlights, so this seemed like a good solution. I bought the set 3 years ago and am proud to say we still have three! They are VERY bright and are extremely efficient. I have the same batteries in them that I put in when I bought them (Amazon Basic Batteries) and they are all testing full strength. The flashlights don't get used much, but when I want one that works, these are my "go-to". I am a guy who just likes flashlights and I have had lots of different ones - most of them much more expensive that this one. But I really like these little guys. You can slip it in your pants or shirt pocket and it doesn't weigh 5 pounds like some of the tactical ones I have. Reading other reviews I see that some people have had these fail - but I also read that the customer service is great and they replace bad ones. I read one review that said he had to pay 10 cents for the replacement! How do you even send in payment for that?

If you want some inexpensive flashlights that are bright, light and (in my experience) durable, go for it. How can you go wrong for $2.50 each?

I put the batteries in the first one and it worked fine. I put the batteries in the second one and it did not work at all. I verified they were in correctly and they were. I put batteries in the 3rd one and while attempting to screw the cap back on to see if it worked, I received a big shock throughout my body and now have a burn mark on my thumb from where I was holding it. I checked that the batteries were in properly (they were) and noticed that the whole flashlight got really hot and was starting to smell like an electrical fire. I still had not successfully screwed the cap on. I did notice a sharp piece of metal sticking out from the battery housing that the others do not have. I did not try putting batteries in the last one. I am hoping I just got a defective set because the ones I received are definitely unsafe.

Edit: I have changed my one star rating to a three star rating. The seller sent me a new set and all 4 flashlights work and are bright for their size. The seller also followed up with an email to make sure I received the replacement set and another to make sure they all worked. So, the seller was very responsive. I'm still not confident that the product is 100% safe because one of the new ones felt hot as I was putting the batteries in it so I wouldn't suggest touching any of the metal parts if you can avoid it. Someone at work gave me a cree q5 led flashlight which feels more solid, takes only 1 AA battery and over all I like it better so I would probably order them instead going forward.

Update: BYB customer service read my original review below, reached out on their own via email, and hooked me up with an additional set of mini flashlights at no expense. I've upped my stars to 5, because these lights do work very well. Add in the low cost and a company with good service, and you get a winner in my book. These were a gift, and the recipient has used his little flashlights almost daily since Christmas. :)

We bought this pack of 4 mini flashlights as a stocking stuffer type gift for someone who wanted a pocket sized flashlight for car, bag, etc. These were exactly right. However, only 2 of the 4 worked. fresh batteries, batteries swapped from working lighst to not working light, different batteries...didn't matter. 2 worked, 2 didn't.

As it was a fairly inexpensive purchase (<$10) and Christmas was only a couple days away, we did not bother to report it or send them back.

But the 2 flashlights of the four that did work, well those work great. Bright light, compact, easy on/off button, etc. So...?

They are very powerful flashlights especially for the small size they are.. I now have a powerful flashlight in four places in my house, and one in my car for the amount I would have paid for one. I'm going to get some more to give to my friends to carry in their pocketbooks.

I am very pleased with this purchase, these flashlights are attractive, lightweight, sturdy, with great illumination for their size. I now have 3 flashlights in various rooms in my house, and one in my car for what I might have paid for only one ordinary flashlight. This is not only a good purchase (bang for my buck), but a very practical and attractive way to have light at my fingertips, one of the best protections you can have against the bad things/people who lurk in the shadows.

It's early to declare this as the best purchase of 2017, but I think it might just be that.
