Keto dessert with Greek Yoghurt

I have been whipping up some keto desserts lately as missy is also following me on the low carb way of eating at the moment. She has put on some weight since she got home and wants to lose some kilos. I have been advising her on what to eat and what not to. She has stopped eating rice, pastas, bread, cakes, ice creams and just about anything that has flour and sugar. Glad to say that she has lost several kilos but still hasn’t reached her ideal weight yet.

So this is what I made the other day – Keto Blueberry Yogurt Cake using airfryer.

Ingredients for Berries Yogurt Cake

1/2 cup of unsweetened Greek yogurt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Strawberries and blueberries

I whisked everything together and pour them into my little ramekins. I didn’t have fresh berries so I used frozen strawberries and blueberries which I have in the freezer for my keto ice-cream.

Set the airfryer to 120 deg C and let it cook for 20 minutes.

Here’s the dessert — No flour. No cream cheese. No oven. Let it cool down and dig in.

A short trip to Batu Arang

Over the weekend, I had a lovely staycation with friends. She and her son prepared kimchi jiggae and grilled pork belly for our dinner. We spent the night chatting away and enjoying good food. The next morning, we headed out for breakfast at Batu Arang, a quaint little town in Selangor which is near her home. There’s nothing better than good company, a little exploring and a change of scenery.

We started our morning with a simple Malaysian breakfast — coffee, half-boiled eggs and kaya toast. There was something wonderfully nostalgic about sitting down at an old-school coffeeshop, enjoying an uncomplicated meal and taking our time over breakfast. Of course, I couldn’t resist bringing along a little something from home. I had made a keto coconut almond flour cake, which I packed along because I don’t eat the kaya toast.

They even have a mural of their most ordered kopi and layered kaya, butter and peanut butter bun.

I spotted this really old larder in the coffeeshop. Our homes used to have this type of larder for keeping plates, cutleries and even food. After breakfast, we took some time to wander around the town.

One of the things that caught my attention was the row of old shophouses along the main road. They reminded me quite a bit of the shophouses in Ipoh, with their old-fashioned facades and nostalgic character.

There was also some interesting street art around town. I spotted a few colourful murals that added a little personality to the laid-back streets. Naturally, I had to stop and take a few photos.

Batu Arang has that charming small-town vibe that feels quite different from the bustle of the city. Annie drove us to the Batu Arang Tunnel. The tunnel was an interesting reminder of Batu Arang’s past and its history as a former coal-mining town.

It is not advisable to walk down into the dark tunnel. We just stood outside and took some photos.

Our little visit to Batu Arang was brief, but it gave us good food, coffee, interesting sights and some time to catch up and enjoy each other’s company. It was a lovely addition to our weekend staycation.

A heartwarming sight that I encountered recently

On Saturday while we were on the way out, I noticed a heartwarming scene when our car was stopping at the traffic light. I saw a weary-looking dad carrying his son while crossing the road. Trotting behind was the daughter who was slight older. They happened to pass by a little patch of grass where tall Cogon Grass (lalang) were growing.

Suddenly the little girl’s face light up and told her dad that she would like to pluck one. So they stopped and the girl reached out to pluck one stalk out. There was such a simple delight on her face as she held it in her hand. Then she said she wanted to get another one for her brother. So the dad let his son down while the girl plucked another stalk and handed to the brother. Both of them look very happy while blowing at the lalang. All of them walked away and continue to their destination.

It is little things like this that brings joy to my heart ❤️

During those few moments, they seemed completely absorbed in their own little world. I watched them until they disappeared from view. Life can be so busy. We rush from one place to another, thinking about the next task, the next appointment, the next destination. Sometimes we forget to notice the small things happening right in front of us.

Perhaps that is why the encountered stayed with me.
