[27 Mar 2012|01:45pm]
[ mood | awake ]

Beneath a gray sky,
forsythias everywhere,
drenched in soft drizzle-
covering the green ground
in flashes of yellow.

Floating everywhere
drenched in steady drizzle,
forsythias-
flashes of spring yellow
still beneath a gray sky.

Some Days [12 Mar 2012|02:54pm]
[ mood | tired ]

some days just fade into nothing . . .
. . . and back again.
Another year marked by Bradford Pear blossoms
bursting into impatient fullness,
arriving too soon year after year.
One last blast of winter
they're torn from tender stems.
Mixed with wet snowflakes.
Who can tell the difference.

So cold,
the antique china cups,
until you fill them
with hot midday coffee;
and your welcoming smile.

Somehow,
it's always slightly off,
morning coffee-
too weak or too bitter
when brewed for one.

Barely morning,
wide awake, not dreaming.
The silent night rages black,
. . . and this blank page leers back,
in empty shades of white.

HAPPY NEW YEAR [02 Jan 2011|07:49am]

In the end, dear ones,
it is your words that remain
as the old year passes-
snow settles on the woodpile;
the black crows have all scattered.

Keep writing, keep dreaming. . .!

Warm wishes,

~P

Amidst the Gold Revised [13 Nov 2010|02:15pm]
Amidst the gold
a lone maple leaf burnt red
marks passing time.

Among the gold,
passing time marked in red:
a lone maple.

When the leaves turn
and fly off in the chill wind
so memories too
rise and fall in and out of form.
Ah, this autumn dawn...

the night lingers endlessly
as old dreams unravel
new dreams are woven.

Late Afternoon [24 Oct 2010|02:07am]
Late afternoon,
how long my shadow:
how cold.

The point comes sharpened by passing time
when just one leaf remains clinging for life,
glistening in the still, breezeless sunlight.
As if there were never a turbulent wind,
nor a deluge of rain.
As if it were this way all along.
That time of year
when shadows cast long
even at noon. . .
Before the steel razor-sharp gray of winter sets in
and the last of the geese fly off.

NEW! Poetry Anthology [10 Oct 2010|06:36pm]

Check it out!

I have 12 pages of poems in this anthology.

This book is a collection of poems from five poets who,
for two years, sent their work and their responses in the form
of more poems, back and forth to each other.

You can find it on lulu.com

The drunken poet
who knows no bounds or limits
in the midday heat -
amidst dried, past prime flowers,
barely standing, still dreaming.

Wow, has it really been 3 months since I wrote a poem?

Is that the spring breeze
or the nightingale's soft song?
Beneath the full moon-
the purple iris trembles;
ripples spread across the pond.

Two Poems [20 Jan 2010|01:21pm]

Winter morning,
Keep writing, keep releasing
pain waits for no one

Huddled in my winter down,
knees burning, feet already tired
waiting for a delayed train,
losing patience,
frozen winds picking up speed,
knife-sharp on my worn out face,
I wonder,
Does the crow,
in his black nakedness
feel this ageing winter too?

raindrops wet my path,
this sunless autumn morning,
or are they teardrops?
Who will know the difference
as this long deep chill sets in.

Faint at first,
increasing intensity,
sound of crickets-
crack the night's silent void
as they too mourn spring's passing.

Emptiness, fullness
infinite spaces between
blank or written-
robins sing from dawn's first edge,
sun light spreads from the cliff tops

How full of whiteness
this empty page at dawn,
between bird songs-
how full of possibility
the empty day ahead.

Song Lyrics [17 Jun 2009|06:35pm]
Sometimes i can see that I'm dying,
memories fading away,
or maybe just re-arranging,
their faces, new names, different outcomes.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm fading,
pieces of me just falling away,
flying around in fragments,
lost forever in spirals of void.....
Less of me today than there was before.
can't remember, can't recall it at all.

Sometimes I know that I'm dying
a little bit of me gone everyday
where it all goes, I can't ever remember
Too bad it used to be all so much more.....

pass silently overhead
between sun and clouds-
traced on the darkening ground
departing shadows . . . . .
