Now that I am angry I've finally found some mood to write. It bothers me immensely that I'm sitting here feeling utterly troubled by his words, genuinely considering his arguments and wondering to the end of me if there might be truth in his statements. Because of the two of us, I am the one doing my best to put myself in the other person's shoes to understand things from his point of view. I will probably lose sleep over this and not regret the time and effort spent mulling over the issue, because as it turns out, I am actually genuinely interested in the truth. It ticks me off to no end that he will not put in this effort, that he in his self-righteous assurance will go to bed tonight utterly pleased that he has and always will be correct. This is the nature of religious "assurance", that somehow "divinely inspired" knowledge is infallible, and it pisses me off. How ironic it is, that beneath his benign smile lies the most frustrating and condescending of all arrogance, the one that says God is on my side, and I know. How ironic it is, that in my fumbling confusion and constant searching it is I, the heathen, who turns out to be the more humble.
