Are you a Cranker, a Stroller or a Tweener

Anybody who knows just a little bit about bowling or hangs around in bowling alleys will know that there are three main types of bowler – there’s the cranker, the stroller and the tweener. Of course there are other variations too, the two handers, the power strokers and the spinners but the main bowling styles are cranking, strolling and tweening.

If you know which type of bowler you are you’ll be better able to improve your game – it will also help you to make better judgments when you buy your bowling kit from shop.bowlersparadise.com or some other bowling store. Crankers have the power but this style of bowling isn’t always as accurate as they would like and splits are a constant threat. Crankers are much more prone to throwing splits than other types of bowler.
Strollers – are the smooth operators of the bowling lane, relying on accuracy more than sheer power – lots of the professionals could be regarded as strollers. The swing of a stroller is usually parallel with the ground and the ball does have less revolutions than that of the cranker – in stroking consistency is the key over power.

Strollers may have accuracy but their slower delivery doesn’t always have enough oomph to plow across the pins like the cranker does.
Tweeners – are something in between, a kind of hybrid between the cranker and the stroller. Bowlers may be labeled as tweeners because their style doesn’t really fit into cranker or stroller – he may execute a back swing which is pretty high but not high enough to be a cranker, in fact some tweeners have many cranker qualities without the necessary strength of the wrist to really execute the necessary power. If a bowler isn’t a cranker and isn’t a stroller he must be a tweener.
Tweeners are overall the most versatile types of bowler you’ll come across with the skill to adapt their game for the power shots when necessary and the accuracy of a stroller. They bowl the ball at an average speed with a smooth delivery and a back swing which isn’t high and isn’t low, it’s somewhere in the middle.

So what type of bowler are you?

Do you have a high back swing and really try to power the ball to explode the pins with loads of revolutions – if so you’re a cranker (and you probably suffer from quite a few splits).
Do you rely more on the accuracy of your bowling rather than power – sending the ball with a low, parallel back swing and an accurate aim at the pins – if so you’re a definite stroller.
Does your bowling style lay firmly between the two – because if it does then you’re a tweener. It’s no good fighting it, you are what you are . . .

I was encouraging him to try some new hobbies, so my son decided he wanted to start a garden inside because he was getting into cooking. He wanted to grow parsley, sage, rosemary, even thyme and he didn’t even know the song.

What a coincidence. I always like to encourage my son in his endeavors so I decided to help him out with his new indoor garden. What is “Good” Debt?

To many people the term “good debt” may seem like an oxymoron. Being in debt can be a burden, but there are types of debt that are beneficial because of the opportunities that come out of them. Avoiding debt completely isn’t always the best option. Paying for everything in cash can often deplete your savings, and leave you without having anything to fall back on. Knowing when it’s necessary to borrow money, and managing your debt well is part of what becomes good debt.

A lot of what makes certain debt “good” can be associated with what is known as “opportunity cost”. Opportunity cost is the sacrifice a person makes of income in the short-run with the intention of making more than they would have in the long term. Furthermore, good debt should be for things you need but can’t afford to pay for out of your own pocket. As the saying goes: “it takes money to make money”. Here are three examples of what can be considered good debt.

Education

Tuition for schools is notoriously high, and there’s pretty much no way you can get a good education without gaining some debt. It’s true that certain careers are obtainable without getting a college degree, but they are scarce and don’t pay as well. For example, you may get a job where you make $30,000 a year without going to school. However, you may never go above that amount and have a greater opportunity to maketwo times as much if you go to college. This is where good debt and opportunity cost come in. By sacrificing the $30,000 over four years (a total of $120,000) you are investing in the long term, and the idea that you will make vastly more than what you lost. Since the debt you are acquiring is for the purpose of something you need to become more successful, it is considered a good debt.

Buying a home can be pretty costly, and if we’ve learned anything from the last decade—it’s pretty volatile too. Chances are you won’t be able to pay for a house upfront, and even if you could it isn’t wise to spend all your capital in one shot like that. A mortgage loan is a good form of debt because of the equity that comes out of it. Once you’ve paid off your loan you now have a new asset. Down the road the opportunity cost will most likely be positive too, since you may end up paying less in property taxes and home maintenance than you would have in rent every month.

Small Business

Taking out a loan in order to start your own business is another form of good debt. Again, in the long-run the opportunity cost of having your own business can end up being a bigger financial windfall for yourself than if you worked for another company. Of course the risk associated with starting your own business is much higher than getting an education or owning a home. Although this is good debt, since you are doing something to further your financial success, it is important to do research and know if it’s right for you.

As stated with the small business example, it’s imperative to realize that taking on debt in any form can be a risk, and you should do your research before making any costly decisions. When taking on debt of any kind keep your debt to income ratio in mind. A good rule of thumb is your monthly debt payments should never exceed 36% of your gross monthly income. Be aware of how much debt you’re taking on at any one time. What all three of these examples, and any type of good debt, have in common are that they are investments in your future with the intention of capital growth. Remembering that when deciding to borrow money can help you avoid bad debt situations.

The Dev Deepavali ("the Diwali of the gods" or "festival of lights of the gods"), the festival of Kartik Poornima is celebrated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It falls on the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartika (November - December) and is 15 days after Diwali. The steps of all the ghats on the riverfront of the Ganges River from Ravidas Ghat at the southern end to Rajghat, are lit with more than a million earthen lamps (diyas) in honour of Ganga, the Ganges and its presiding goddess. The gods are believed to descend on earth to bathe in the Ganges on this day. The festival is also observed as Tripura Purnima Snan. The tradition of lighting the lamps on this Dev Deepawali festival day was first started at the Panchganga Ghat, about 25 years ago.

During Dev Deepawali, houses are decorated with oil lamps and coloured designs on the front door, firecrackers are burnt in the night. On this occasion, processions of decorated deities are taken out in the streets of Varanasi and oil lamps are set afloat on the river.

Architecture update from behind the scene

Salam and hi to all

I have many things to tell on this blog. I got plans for this blog, to organize giveaway and contest. I want to keep updating this blog while ideas keep coming into my head.

...but, I'm lack of free time to organize those things.

WHY?

I'm struggling to complete the construction and detail drawing of the sample house for Baba Nyonya Resort at Jalan Gapam, Jasin, Melaka. At the same time , I have to sit down with client and structural engineer to sort out some issues.

The part that I really hate is to amend the drawing in autoCAD. I don't have draughtman helping me since my assistant quit the job couple months ago. Now I have to draft the drawing all by myself, while at the same time , I have to attend meetings, doing design jobs and 3D sketchup illustration. I need to work overtime to catch up everything.

.. come bro, stop complaining! Some people have worse task than what you have in hands...

hmmm.. ok, ok.. I won't complaint... but still I need to do another project queued in my folder. I have to be more accurate and improve my working skill. I need to design fast, drafting faster, less dreaming and overcome the sleepy mode problem after lunch :p . I did mentioned to my colleague, this is probably because I'm getting older, so I had the sleepy mode syndrome :D

I think I have to stop now. Maybe in the next entry, I'm going to share what I have in mind for big art project in this blog. I also I will share how I play with the roof design for type D bungalow as I have to change it to another look. The potential buyer really don't like the original roof pattern, based on what the developer told me.

For junior architect, maybe what I'm going to share can be useful to you guys. Or if any of you have more experience than me, please voice up your comment. I'd like to hear and learn from you guys. For me, learning process can be gain even from youngsters. It's not a big deal listen to them, if their ideas and knowledge is better.

My current job needs me to design lots of offices and commercial building. Dealing with layout plan, façade and the circulation flow, there are many aspects to consider. I also do 3D modelling using sketch up design tools and completing the working drawing in autoCAD.

In the design process, I have to draw the office wall partitions, office chairs, the table and bookshelves in layout plan to make sure it can tolerate with the circulation and flow.

I only do rough placement for the office furniture and office cubicles, as I have to pass the plan to interior department afterwards for more details.

In this business, our office also do design and built service, to make better profit. Sometimes, we suggest our client to get used office furniture instead of the new one. This really can cut cost because normally it cheaper than discount office furniture.

Cheap used office furniture doesn’t mean you won’t get comfortable office chairs. It depends on how you get the source for used office furniture. One of the best sources is to go to furniture liquidation. The furniture liquidators can get the good quality used office furniture as they also dealing with trash removal and relocation of office.

That is part of my story as a designer, I wish I can continue with another story and tips on the next entry.

Doximity special social apps for doctor

When I was in high school. I always had a dream of becoming a doctor. I was in science stream class and I already in love with biology, physics and chemistry. But after school, I filled in architecture as a first choice for university intake form, end up I am now working in architecture filed (I do love architecture as well).

Anyway, that was long time ago. Now I enjoy what I am doing, but still I have a dream to work on my own again. My passion now is more on internet job as blogging, blogshop, onlinestore and few other things.

As I am involved with lots of online features, I can’t stop myself from using social apps like Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter.

When talking about doctor and medical related business, they also start using ‘kind of social apps’ to spread the words. Unfortunately, they can’t simply use popular social media services as they don’t provide the level of security required by HIPAA. They also don’t verify their users, which means anyone can pretend to be a doctor.

So, there is a new app from the creators of Epocrates that is becoming the social medicine platform for physicians and healthcare workers. It’s called Doximity. You can see the sample here, William Light, MD.

the condition or quality of being impotent; weakness.

chronic inability to attain or sustain an erection for the performance of a sexual act.

sterility, especially in the male.

Obsolete . lack of self-restraint.

Impotent (from wiki) ; Erectile dysfunction (ED) is sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual performance

Seriously it was a big challenge if someone trying to quit smoking without any 'stop smoking aids'. I've done before without any proper quit smoking aids, and finally I've made it after few attempts.

It sounds easy for non smokers to hear people successfully quit smoking. But for me, it is not easy especially for hardcore addicted smokers. Why? There are many factors why a smokers can't leave the smoking addiction easily. Here are 3 habits that make smokers in Malaysia can't leave the addiction:

Smoking after meals
Smoking in the toilet
Hangout for drinks with colleagues

When I try to quit smoking, those 3 habits are the main things I avoid slowly. After a long period, I wasn't stick to the habits anymore, then I reduce total numbers of cigarette intake.

Did you see highlighted words above? Yes it takes a very long period for me to quit smoking as I didn't take any quit smoking aids.

There some quit smoking products available on market such as nicotine patchs, electronic cigarette and nicotine chewing gum. I haven't try any of those so I can't tell the experience.

Even we always see and we knew about the bad side of having cigarettes, they can't stop their selves from smoking again and again. The nicotine is the main enemy here.

Yes nicotine is the bad guy. As I am now free from nicotine, I have better meaning in life, especially for my kids and wife.

They deserve better man, they need quality air.

Fisherman and the fish

Now I have more interest in becoming a children book's illustrator, rather than doing architect's job. I start loosing my interest working as an architect. My passion in architecture is still there but my 'shield' getting weaker for staying back at the office, meeting clients, doing amendment, scolded by bosses etc.. etc..

Damn, this is serious.. maybe this is the result as I'm holding a 'worker status' again? I keep thinking that I should work on my own again, become my own boss. Hopefully can get back to work from home status very soon.

The illustration above done when I was at the staff meeting in my office. I was bored and it was drawn on the work progress sheet given to everyone of us. The coloring done later after the meeting.
