brave timbers Brave timbers is the string based project of Sarah Kemp and Andrew Scrogham. Third album, 'the unspoken things' was recorded at home in North Shields and mixed by Sam Grant at Blank Studios Newcastle. Originally a solo project, Brave timbers first album 'For Every Day You Lost' was released through Second Language Music in 2010 , which quickly sold out of it's limited pressing, followed by a second release on Gizeh Records, 'Hope' in 2016, in which the sound was augmented by the addition of Andrew Scrogham on tenor guitar and piano. Melancholy-tinged instrumental vignettes conjure a bewitching, immersive sound world that will immediately appeal to fans of Rachel’s, Balmorhea and Dakota Suite. This latest album expands their reflective and intimate sound with drums (James Yates) and synths (Brendan Sykes) to create a rich tapestry of timeless compositions. Sarah has written, arranged and recorded string parts for many other artists including Lanterns on the Lake, The Declining Winter , Memory Drawings, RXGibbs, and Epic45 amongst other and ongoing collaborations. Andrew has previously played and written material with a number of bands including Lanterns on the Lake. brave timbers music has been remixed by Chihei Hatakeyama, Richard Adams (Hood, The Declining Winter), RX Gibbs, Tobias Hellkvist, Epic 45 and others.
