Don Love's Ten Steps To Divorce Recovery
Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2013Author Don Love offers a short book that will have major implications for you if you follow it closely. I'm assuming you are divorced or are thinking about it and that's why you are here doing your research.
The bad news is that if you are hopelessly and helplessly mired in the pitiable hog wallow of divorce blues, Don's excellent book won't help you. Lots of folks around seem to like being miserable!
The good news, however, is that because you are here, this means you're actively looking for help and answers so your prognosis of recovery is excellent!
IF you are a thoughtful person, looking for help and a way out from the divorce hole you find yourself in, you NEED this book. It's worth every penny you'll pay for it.
Don's book contains ten principal points of how you can overcome your present state of mind and drag yourself out of that hole. He reinforces the points with wisdom and advice.
For example Don says that (my words: for most folks) a divorce can put the body into a state of shock that can be every bit as bad as shock caused by a physical trauma, and rushing the healing process can do more damage than good.
So, he has developed ten points to recovery, point number one being that you might consider placing yourself on a one year recovery trajectory, the theory being that if you had a really traumatic accident, you wouldn't run out the next week telling everyone you were well. In a sense, a divorce can be as violent as an amputation on the psyche.
You will find that Don first gives his recovery point in a sentence and then elaborates on it. At the end of the chapter he gives you a practical exercise he calls "Tip Practice." He also provides positive affirmations.
Without giving away too much information, for you really do need to purchase this book and put it to use as it is intended, let me give you a couple of Don's points that I found particularly salient and helpful...
1. You can't beat divorce until you accept the fact that you are divorced. Then you can start to plan on the next phase of your life.
2. When life sucks, it's tempting to shift into neutral. No pain. No joy.
3. You WILL go to your friends. Right? Well, don't let them give you a bum steer. Well meaning friends can do you more harm than good with bad advice. Some will happily vindicate your misery because they are miserable as well. Yuck! Don't fall into this trap!
4. If kids are in the mix, you MUST be the adult in the room. Don't lean on the kids for support. They have enough problems already.
5. As you work through your divorce, remember to be a giver and not just a taker. You can't be a victim when you are giving. This includes your time, compliments, and a supportive shoulder to your friends. Heck, it's a great time to re-invent yourself into the hero you have always wanted to be!
Don provides just the right amount of good advice, well laid out. If you have never studied up on positive thinking, affirmations, and that sort of thing, what he has to tell you in his book will be dynamite to you. If you have, then his book will serve as a good reminder to do what you know you need to do to beat divorce once and for all.
Don gets my five stars for a book that will serve as a Godsend to folks in the throes of divorce. His recommendations are not hard to follow. Much of it is common sense, sometimes overlooked, ignored, or unknown to folks who are in trouble.
If you are looking for a way up and out of the divorce blues, you need to put this book, DIVORCE BLUES RECOVERY, on the top shelf. This may be all you need to recover yourself and get back to life like you like and maybe come out better and smarter for it.
My review qualifications... While I have never been divorced, several years ago I saw my beloved biz partnership go belly up. It was as close to a divorce as I ever want to come. I looked on it as a divorce! I experienced nearly every symptom Don describes, and my life did go into neutral for a couple of years. My conclusion is that when you're jammed up like I was, don't try to go it alone. Don's book will help. I promise.

Bridge over troubled water
Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2013Divorce usually causes great stress for the couple themselves, for any children they may have, and for their friends and family. This short self-help book aims to bring hope and comfort to new divorcees who are coping with painful feelings such as grief, shock, guilt, shame, jealousy, anger or loneliness along with changes in many aspects of their lifestyle, and who may not know where to turn for support.
The book focuses on emotional aspects, and does not cover legal or financial issues. It explains that there are no quick fixes for dealing with the pain of loss, and it will take at least one year to adjust, but that it is important to keep moving forward with small steps each day. Wise practical guidance is offered in the form of '10 tips', each linked to an affirmation. These will encourage readers to care well for themselves and their children, learn something from the experience, and gradually rebuild their lives for the better. Written by an experienced counselor, this book is easy to read and the approach is both compassionate and positive.

Surviving and Thriving after Divorce
Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2013Divorce is not an uncommon occurrence. Half of all marriages in the U.S. end in divorce. That said, divorce is a crisis situation for the partners involved as well as for their children. The Chinese symbol for crisis consists of two characters: danger and opportunity. Don Love's book Divorce Blues Recovery seeks to guide its readers in how to make the very hazardous situation of divorce an opportunity for personal growth and eventual happiness.
Divorce Blues Recovery is easy to read and digest and offers ten points of sound advice for the person going through the stress and pain of a divorce. How do you come out of this experience changed for the better? "Personal growth can be most accelerated in hard times. . .You have the opportunity to think about and capture all of the good things about yourself as well as what your divorce showed you about changes you want to make in yourself."
Don Love's advice about how to handle divorce with regard to children is excellent. The potential harm to your children is the most painful and critical aspect of a divorce. "It can be tempting to want to turn your children against the other spouse or want them to have the same feelings you do or at least understand your side of the story. But the truth is you will be disappointed if you attempt to bring this about." The best thing you can do for your children is to set them a good example. How you handle this divorce will have the greatest impact on how your children will handle crises in the future.
As for yourself, it is important to focus on the positive and banish the negative. "Picture your heart and mind like a garden that has to be attended to in the same way you would care for your flower and vegetable patch. You have to keep out the weeds and bugs that will destroy what you are hoping to grow and enjoy."
I strongly recommend that anyone going through a divorce read and re-read Divorce Blues Recovery.

Thoughtful and compassionate
Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2012Very thoughtfully and compassionately written. Offers very positive and helpful advice that will help anyone to gain and maintain the optimism required to get through to the other side of a difficult divorce. Presented as a 10-step guide towards coping with your grief in a healthy manner and taking steps towards building yourself a brighter tomorrow. I could feel my levels of optimism, positiveness and happiness growing as I read it!
At the end of each chapter is a short summary, followed by a practical tip to follow in order to achieve the desired results. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, people! I submit that if you take heed of the advice in this book and follow the practical tips, you will arrive at the end of the tunnel as a happier, more contented and mature person much sooner than you would without it.
At certain trying times in our lives we do require expert help and understanding from others to guide us along our difficult path and help us in reclaiming our happiness and our future. This book is all you need. Highly recommended!

Thank you Don for this wonderful book!
Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2013Don Love's book is a tonic for those suffering from the 'divorce syndrome'. In today's world, nothing's permanent. Definitely, not marriage!
One moment, we feel secure that our marriage is rock solid and the next instant our spouse calmly informs us that it's over! Kaput! We are left shell-shocked, hurt and shattered. What went wrong? What did I do to deserve this? How do I cope with it? How are the children going to take it? What do I do? Questions, questions but no answers!
Our friends and family try to comfort us during this harrowing time, but are they competent enough to lift us from the hole we have fallen in? No? In such cases, a book written by an expert will greatly help to provide the right advice and answers we so desperately need. I feel Don's book is the one you should turn to when you are in this situation. If you read and follow the ten 'uncommon' tips given in his book then you will definitely be on the road to normalcy.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating divorce or just divorced. It will definitely help you get to brighter days! I am giving 5 stars to this book.

Don Nails It
Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2013Don nails it. His understanding of the pain and turmoil of the 'victims' of divorce is evident in these pages. He points out the potential of damage to both the individual and their family members through a prolonged or chaotic recovery. Then he resolves that potential by providing activities with structure and meaning, designed not only to minimize that damage but to build a better life.
An easy read, with sound practical steps to lead anyone through the recovery process. The text provides a reference book and a handbook for recovery, to be read over and over.

DWED Review
Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2013This is a very useful tool as a way to get through or over a divorce. I'd like to think that even though it is labeled for divorce it can be used in any form of breakup or relationship headed down that road.
Don gives the reader not only information pertaining to a loss of love, but tools to manage the heartache while taking it step by step, or day by day. The exercises involved are influential at best in putting yourself on the right footing and managing the stress and new world of being without your partner. It gives the reader a new definition of utilizing a positive outlook and direction all the while equipping them with a fresh start.
I would definitely pick this book up again should I be faced with a situation of losing a partner and use it as a study guide when powering through the worst of it.

Excellent Guide,Highly Recommended
Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2013I loved reading Don's book. Very precise and to the point, it should be a guide to anyone who is contemplating divorce or just divorced.
The first tip is so true, but lots of people never try to follow it. I also liked tip 6 and remember following that tip when I got divorced 16 years ago. My 2 children are better for it.
Divorce is never easy. It involves the children, the parents, the siblings, the friends and also property and things you accumulate. However, it does happen and at increasing levels around the world. The main reason, I believe is that love dies for either one person or both.
This book has 10 great tips to make your divorce easier and some great affirmations on the end.
I highly recommend this book as a guide for anyone who is contemplating divorce or just divorced.
