The Gajaba Regimental Centre hosted a farewell parade and dinner on 20 October 2026 to honour the 70th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and the 15th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment, Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc. He received the ceremonial farewell salute at the Home of Gajaba on the eve of his retirement, marking the culmination of a distinguished military career spanning over 36 years of dedicated service to the Sri Lanka Army.

A delegation from the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery visited the School of Artillery, Deolali, India, from 06 to 08 October 2026 in connection with the 11th Army-to-Army Staff Talks (ASST). The delegation was led by Colonel G. K. Paranawithana RSP psc IG, Commandant of the School of Artillery, and comprised Lieutenant Colonel K. J. D. M. A. P. J. The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP VSV USP nps psc, met Colonel W. A. A. P. Gunathilake RSP psc Lsc IG of the Sri Lanka Artillery at the Army Headquarters on 21 October 2026, following his remarkable achievement at the 5th Veterans Sports and Games National Championship 2026 held in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

The “Layton Cup” Boxing Championship 2026, organised by the Sri Lanka Boxing Association, was held on 13, 14, 15 and 16 October 2026 at the boxing arena of the Diyagama International Sports Complex.

The Sri Lanka Army women’s and men’s handball teams qualified for the finals of both categories of the 14th Defence Services Handball Championship.

The Commando Regiment has successfully completed the renovation of the residence of the late Corporal S.V.A.M. Pushpamal PWV, a recipient of the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (PWV), at No. 35, Sarana, Seenigama, Girithale, with the aim of providing his bereaved parents with a safer, more comfortable, and improved living environment.

Udugama RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP VSV USP nps psc, on 16 October 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning nearly 36 years.

The wild elephant ‘Agbo’ was found unharmed in the Nachchaduwa Tank Reserve following a joint search operation conducted by troops of the Army, Air Force and officials of the Department of Wildlife Conservation, including officers of the Thirappane Wildlife Conservation Office.
