The woman sends fifteen messages to someone after not getting a response from them, and her friend scolds her for doing so. Lineage, both creative and personal, comes up throughout the features in our fall issue. For a composer adapting Lincoln in the Bardo into an opera, a photographer speaking with their predecessor, and an artist bridging folklore and science fiction, connections to the past move their practices forward. Ideas of lineage suffuse our literary features as well, through conversations with old flames, fast friendships formed at wedding receptions, and even with a lion hidden in the back room of a struggling grocery store.
