The fire, which sent a plume of heavy back smoke into the air, was under control a few minutes before noon.
Interim Police Chief James Patterson ordered an extensive review of the technology earlier this summer, according to the department. The review resulted in disciplinary action against a civilian employee for a policy violation and an ongoing investigation into possible misuse by a sergeant.
The council voted unanimously in favor of granting Royal Crown Enterprise LLC an amended development plan for the project at 10302 Seawall Blvd., praising CEO Mohamed Eldawy’s efforts to work with the city and listen to residents’ concerns.
