Q: Where do I need to live to adopt from GBGRR?

We only place dogs within the Greater Houston area unless you are a prior adopter . We do not serve other parts of Texas or the US , so your home must be located in this region to adopt from us.

Q: Do you work with any other dog breeds?

While we love all dogs, we focus exclusively on rescuing and rehoming Golden Retrievers and some Golden Retriever mixes. This lets us give them the specialized care and attention they need to thrive.

Q: Can any family adopt a dog?

Not quite! We don’t place dogs in homes with children under 5 years old under any circumstances. This rule is non-negotiable to ensure the safety and well-being of both the children and the dogs.

Q: How does fostering a dog work?

Fostering means giving a dog a temporary home until we find their forever family (or until the agreed-upon foster time is up). You take care of them, love them, and keep them safe, and then when the time comes, you hand them back to us.

Who We Are

We’re a dedicated group of volunteers with one mission: caring for Golden Retrievers in need. Since 1999, GBGRR has been one of the largest Golden Retriever rescues in Texas, serving dogs throughout the greater Houston area.

Over the years, we’ve rescued thousands of Goldens and work closely with other rescue groups to make sure no dog falls through the cracks.

From providing medical care and safe foster homes to guiding families through adoption, our volunteers pour their hearts into giving every Golden a second chance at a happy, loving life.
