Honda Customs 2026: Portugal’s Mugen wins Battle of the Twins, Italy’s Saharja wins Off-Road category

Portugal’s Mugen, a heavily customised Honda CB750 Hornet, has won the 2026 Honda Customs β€œBattle of the Twins” competition after receiving 10,092 votes from the public. Built by Portuguese Honda dealer Mototrofa, Mugen took almost 24% of the competition’s 42,119 votes, securing the overall and On-Road titles ahead of nine other custom builds based on the CB750 Hornet and XL750 Transalp.

This year’s competition introduced an β€œOn Road vs Off Road” format, pitting Honda’s 750 cc twin-cylinder roadster and adventure models against each other. Voting ran from June 12 to August 31, attracting votes from 102 countries – a 39% increase over 2025. Mugen gives the CB750 Hornet a more aggressive streetfighter appearance, finished in deep forest green with gold and carbon-fibre detailing alongside a range of custom components.

The victory also makes Mototrofa only the second builder to win the Honda Customs competition twice. The Portuguese dealer previously took the title in 2021 with its CB650R-based Fenix. The Off-Road title went to Italy’s Saharja, a Dakar-inspired XL750 Transalp built by DRS Custom Cycles, collecting more than 4,800 votes, representing 36% of the off-road vote.

Saharja features a custom navigation tower with digital road book and TFT display, HRC-inspired colours, redesigned front lighting, handguards, steel protection bars, an aluminium skid plate, auxiliary fuel tanks, knobby tyres and a high-mounted exhaust. In the On-Road category, Spain’s Last Lap finished second with more than 6,900 votes, followed by Poland’s Sting Honey.

Last Lap transforms the CB750 Hornet into an ’80s-style GP racer with a full fairing, custom tank and tail section, single-sided swingarm and bespoke exhaust. The Off-Road podium was completed by the UK’s ’86 Dakar Tribute, based on the XL750 Transalp and inspired by Honda’s 1986 Dakar-winning NXR750, and France’s Ocean Nomad, another Transalp transformed with a retro surf-inspired design.

Of the 42,119 votes cast, On-Road builds accounted for 28,775 votes (68.3%), while the Off-Road category received 13,344 votes (31.7%). With Mugen’s victory, Mototrofa joins Italy’s Maan Motocicli Audaci as the only two-time winners of Honda Customs.

  • MRT Putrajaya Line faced brake issues at Jalan Ipoh this morning – affected train removed, service restored

MRT Putrajaya Line faced brake issues at Jalan Ipoh this morning – affected train removed, service restored

MRT Putrajaya Line users, take note. A train on the line faced brake issues this morning at the Jalan Ipoh station, which meant that it couldn’t move, causing disruption to the schedule.

According to a press statement posted by Rapid KL at 9.27 am, trains from Kwasa Damansara had to turn back at Jalan Ipoh, while those coming from Putrajaya Sentral had to turn back at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. A shuttle train bridged the gap from Kentonment to HKL.

The technical team was rushed to the scene and to fix the issue and polis bantuan as well as station staff were deployed at affected stations to assist commuters.

The latest update posted at 9.35 am said that MRT Putrajaya Line service has been restored after the affected train was removed from service. Along with that, the shuttle train has been discontinued. However, waiting times may be slightly longer while service frequency is being regulated, Rapid KL said.

  • 2027 Xpeng L03 Australian specs and pricing revealed – EV up to 520 km WLTP, REEV 1,017 km; from RM121k

2027 Xpeng L03 Australian specs and pricing revealed – EV up to 520 km WLTP, REEV 1,017 km; from RM121k

Specifications and pricing for the Xpeng L03 have been revealed for the Australian market ahead of the SUV’s launch later this year. According to Drive, the L03 is priced to compete against the Geely EX5 (we know it here as the Proton eMas 5) as well as the BYD Atto 3 Evo.

Kicking things off is the RWD Standard Range that retails for AUD41,900 (about RM121k) and comes equipped with a 58.3-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This is good for a range of up to 445 km following the WLTP standard, with the battery supporting AC charging at up to 11 kW and DC fast charging at a peak of 193 kW.

The RWD Standard Range, as its name suggests, has a rear electric motor rated at 222 PS (219 hp or 163 kW) and 280 Nm of torque. Standard kit for the starter variant includes 18-inch wheels, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 26.8-inch head-up display, a 50-watt wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, 256-colour ambient lighting and synthetic leather upholstery.

The list continues with powered front seats (with heating, ventilation and memory functions), Level 2 ADAS, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera, a built-in dashcam, nine speakers, rain-sensing wipers and seven airbags (includes front-centre).

2027 Xpeng L03 Australian specs and pricing revealed – EV up to 520 km WLTP, REEV 1,017 km; from RM121k

Priced the same as the RWD Standard Range is the PowerX RWD Long Range, which is the sole range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) variant of the L03 offered in Australia. This gets the same equipment as the RWD Standard Range, but with a different powertrain.

The rear electric motor here is slightly more powerful at 245 PS (241 hp or 180 kW) but with the same peak torque of 280 Nm. Meanwhile, the range extender/generator is a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine making 86 PS (84 hp or 63 kW) to charge a 37.2-kWh LFP battery.

The electric-only range for the REEV variant is 215 km, while the combined hybrid range is up to 1,017 km. AC charging power is reduced to 6.6 kW for this option, as is the DC input that is limited to 123 kW.

Going up the price tree, we arrive at the second of three battery-electric (BEV) variants of the L03, the RWD Long Range. Priced at AUD46,900 (RM136k), this gets a larger 71.2-kWh LFP battery for up to 520 km of range, higher DC charging power at 236 kW and an electric motor with the same torque (280 Nm) but more power at 249 PS (245 hp or 183 kW). Standard equipment is identical to the PowerX RWD Long Range, with both having the option of a light grey interior.

2027 Xpeng L03 Australian specs and pricing revealed – EV up to 520 km WLTP, REEV 1,017 km; from RM121k

The most expensive variant of the L03 is the AWD Performance Ultra, which goes for AUD53,900 (RM156k) and adds on features like 20-inch alloy, an 18-speaker sound system with active noise cancellation, massaging front seats, three Turing AI chips for the Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot (XNGP) semi-autonomous driving mode (arriving in 2027) as well as more ADAS functions.

The range-topper is also the only way to get all-wheel drive, with a front electric motor rated at 182 PS (180 hp or 134 kW) and 171 Nm being added for a total system output of 387 PS (382 hp or 285 kW) and 431 Nm. Range takes a hit with the added grunt, with the quoted figure being up to 440 km.

As mentioned at the start, the EX5 and Atto 3 Evo are the closest rivals to the L03 in terms of price in Australia, with both starting slightly higher from AUD41,990 (RM122k). Closer to us, the L03 has already been previewed in Indonesia and Thailand this year – will Malaysia get it too?

  • 2026 Proton S70 MC2 NA launched: 120 PS/150 Nm 1.5L 4-cyl fr Saga, torque con CVT, Lite RM57k, Prime RM60k

    2026 Proton S70 MC2 NA launched: 120 PS/150 Nm 1.5L 4-cyl fr Saga, torque con CVT, Lite RM57k, Prime RM60k

    Proton S70 1.5 i-GT Prime

Announced almost exactly two weeks ago, the naturally-aspirated version of the Proton S70 – part of the forthcoming MC2 facelift lineup – has finally been launched. With this comes official pricing for the base Lite and Prime, which make the segment-straddling sedan more affordable and serve as an indirect replacement for the soon-to-be-discontinued Persona.

True to what was leaked previously, the Lite retails at RM59,800 on-the-road without insurance, while the Prime goes for RM62,800. With the RM3,000 launch rebate until December 31, this drops to RM56,800 for the Lite, making it only seven thousand ringgit more expensive than the Saga Premium, with the Prime then costing RM59,800.

These figures include a five-year unlimited warranty and six times free labour for servicing. Proton is also offering nine-year financing with interest rates as low as 2.35% per annum and RM2,000 in overtrade support, as well as upgraded insurance with included special perils coverage, windscreen coverage, passenger personal accident coverage up to RM15,000 per person, and upgraded flood relief up to RM2,000.

    2026 Proton S70 MC2 NA launched: 120 PS/150 Nm 1.5L 4-cyl fr Saga, torque con CVT, Lite RM57k, Prime RM60k

    Proton S70 1.5 i-GT Prime

This pricing structure makes buying a Proton today akin to climbing a ladder. The NA S70 slots right in between the Saga (RM38,990 to RM49,990) and S70 turbo (RM74,800 to RM89,800, now that the base RM68,800 Executive has been discontinued), and the national carmaker will happily sell you its more profitable SUVs beyond that point.

Proton calls this the 1.5 i-GT, even though there is already such a model on sale, the turbo (technically 1.5TD). This one instead uses a NA port-injected version of the 1.5 litre four-cylinder – the BHE15-CFN taken straight out of the Saga, making 120 PS at 6,100 rpm and 150 Nm of torque between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm.

That’s 61 PS and 140 Nm less than the turbo car, but 11 PS more than the outgoing Persona’s Campro VVT. As per the Saga, the S70 Lite and Prime do without the turbo models’ sound-insulating engine cover, leaving the messy wiring and Lynk & Co-branded coil packs exposed.

The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been jettisoned in favour of a new CVT that’s different from the Saga’s Punch unit, as it looks set to feature a torque converter for smoother step-off acceleration. Proton claims this combination has undergone over 5,400 hours of dynamometer testing and 412,000 km of local on-road testing.

The stepless transmission is almost certainly the Wanliyang (WLY) unit found in the Chinese-market fourth-generation Geely Emgrand; other countries get a six-speed automatic paired with a direct-injected engine. It appears to retain the China car’s simulated eight-speed mode, something the Saga’s CVT does not offer.

However, while the Emgrand utilises a conventional mechanical gear lever and an up-down sequential gate, the S70 NA continues to use the turbo’s electronic selector. This not only means you’ll have to toggle the shifter twice to select reverse or drive, but you’ll also have to awkwardly flick it it left or right to row through the β€œgears” manually.

    Lite (left) versus Prime variants

Beyond that, the S70 Lite and Prime are as per the old Executive turbo variant, with the exception of a black grille without the silver trim. Just like that car, you don’t get a full light bar at the back, with the Lite even being downgraded to halogen headlights. Oddly enough, the car retains the original, pre-MC LED indicators (the MC1 was downgraded to bulb units).

Also missing on the Lite are the silver triangle bumper corners and front spoiler, which are instead finished in gloss black. You’ll have to step up to the Prime to regain auto LED headlights (still with bulb indicators) and auto-folding door mirrors, plus an upgrade from the Lite’s 16-inch turbine-style alloy wheels to snazzy 17-inch multi-spoke rollers – the latter hitherto reserved for the Flagship.

Inside, the Lite and Prime maintain the Executive and Premium turbo’s analogue gauges and smaller eight-inch infotainment touchscreen, the latter now offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The operating system is the updated one from the Saga, replete with that car’s interface (with the vehicle in the menus being changed to an S70, obviously).

    2026 Proton S70 MC2 NA launched: 120 PS/150 Nm 1.5L 4-cyl fr Saga, torque con CVT, Lite RM57k, Prime RM60k

    Proton S70 1.5 i-GT Prime

Unlike the Executive, a reverse camera and auto up/down windows (Executive is auto down only) are also fitted as standard. At the rear, the NA version still gets rear air vents and a USB-A and USB-C port, but the headrests are fixed and there’s no centre armrest or headrest, just like that Executive.

Other standard features include keyless entry with remote engine start, push-button start, a urethane steering wheel, manual fabric seats and reverse sensors. The Prime adds single-zone auto air con, faux leather upholstery and steering wheel wrap and front parking sensors.

Safety-wise, the S70 Lite and Prime come with six airbags, stability control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear collision warning, a door opening warning and a rear seat reminder. Sadly, none of them offer driver assists, not even autonomous emergency braking – a glaring omission considering the cheaper Saga Premium has it.

    Lite (left) versus Prime variants

We should point out that while the S70 Lite and Prime will be part of the MC2 family, only the turbo models are expected to receive the full, in-house-designed facelift, including new head- and taillights, bumpers and even the X50‘s quad tailpipes. It could very well also feature an all-new interior, again following the footsteps of the X50.

So that’s the long and short of the new naturally-aspirated Proton S70, bridging the gap between the Saga and the S70 turbo. Over to you now – what do you think of the prices and specs, and would you get this over the two existing models? Let us know in the comments.

  • E-hailing and p-hailing demand anticipated to increase by 200 to 300% during F1 Bahrain GP in Sepang race week

E-hailing and p-hailing demand anticipated to increase by 200 to 300% during F1 Bahrain GP in Sepang race week

The upcoming Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026, which will be held at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from October 2 to 4, is expected to see demand for e-hailing and p-hailing (parcel and food delivery) services surge by 200 to 300% during the race week.

This projection was indicated by Pertubuhan Lestari Ekonomi Aktivis Digital Malaysia (LEAD Malaysia), which said it was based on typical demand patterns seen during large-scale international events, the New Straits Times reports.

The advocacy organisation said the spike in demand was expected to be concentrated around Sepang, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya, creating opportunities for thousands of e-haling drivers and p-hailing riders to boost their income during the period.

It also anticipates that there will be dynamic fare increases at specific times and locations when demand exceeds driver availability, given that there will be an influx of F1 fans from around the world heading into the country for the event.

As such, it is expected that many gig workers from neighbouring states will travel to the Klang Valley and Sepang to seize earning opportunities during the event.

It reminded e-hailing drivers and p-hailing riders that as they pursue bookings, bonuses, incentives and dynamic fares during the period, they should be mindful that they also represent the nation. “During race week, every trip is not just a booking. It is also a small opportunity to introduce Malaysia to the world,” the organisation said.

KTM platform closures from Salak Selatan to Bangi

KTM Komuter riders, take note. KTM has announced that there will be platform closures for stations from Salak Selatan to Bangi, starting from tomorrow, September 23. This is to make way for infrastructure works as part of the Klang Valley Double Track Phase II (KVDT2) rail rehabilitation project.

The stations involved are Salak Selatan, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Serdang, Kajang, Kajang 2, UKM and Bangi. Platform 1 on all the stations above will be closed and only Platform 2 will be in use, except for UKM, which is the other way around.

Remember this and follow the signs if Platform 1 is part of your routine. Expect larger crowds at the platforms during this temporary inconvenience. The KVDT2 project is expected to complete by the end of 2027.

  • Saudi Arabia’s Ceer launches Exobot sedan and SUV – 800V; tri-motor, 112 kWh; up to 1,111 hp, 670 km NEDC

Saudi Arabia’s Ceer launches Exobot sedan and SUV – 800V; tri-motor, 112 kWh; up to 1,111 hp, 670 km NEDC

Ceer, Saudi Arabia’s first homegrown electric vehicle (EV) brand, has introduced Exobot, its first product series that form part of a planned portfolio of seven models by 2030. The Exobot series includes a sedan and SUV, both set to be manufactured at the Ceer Manufacturing Complex (CMC) at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) in Saudi Arabia.

Before getting into the technical details of Exobot, here’s a little backstory on the brand. Launched back in November 2022, Ceer is joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn. The latter currently offers modular EV platforms to companies looking to launch their own models without having to undergo years of development.

According to Ceer, the Exobot cars are built on an 800-volt platform with support for ultra-fast charging that can get the 112-kWh battery from a 10-80% state of charge (SoC) in under 30 minutes. They will also initially be available in First Edition guise with three electric motors generating 850 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.

Performance-wise, it’s 2.6 seconds to get from 0-100 km/h for the sedan, while the SUV needs 2.9 seconds. Estimated driving range following the NEDC standard is 560 km for the SUV and 670 km for the sedan.

Ceer also touts a more powerful version of the tri-motor setup that is rated at a more substantial 1,111 hp and 1,500 Nm, which sees the century sprint times drop to 2.1 seconds (sedan) and 2.4 seconds (SUV). Quoted top speeds are 250 and 210 km/h respectively for the sedan and SUV. Other driving-related features include steer-by-wire technology, rear-wheel steering, torque vectoring, an active chassis and up to Level 3 ADAS.

In terms of dimensions, the sedan measures 5.26 metres long, 2.1 metres wide and 1.43 metres tall. Meanwhile, the SUV is 5.02 metres long, 2.1 metres wide and 1.69 metres tall, with both cars having the same wheelbase of 3,200 mm.

Ceer says the Exobot cars reflect Saudi Arabia’s bold identity with a design that showcases dynamic proportions and a distinctive wedge profile. The standout cue that many will immediately notice is the windshield, which is said to be the largest every produced with a length of 2.4 metres and set at a 15-degree incline.

Equally as dramatic are the Shahin wing doors that are inspired by the Shahin falcon and measure nearly three metres long. These open in a 60 cm arc and can be operated remotely via the key fob or by touching the door-mounted controls.

Another link to Saudi’s history is the 32 bars of light across the body of the cars that point towards the year 1932 when the Saudi Arabia unified to become a kingdom. The forged aluminium wheels are also styled with a distinctive triangular motif influenced by Al-Lahuj style openings as seen in the architecture across the kingdom.

Moving inside, we find a futuristic cabin with a 48-inch screen that spans pillar to pillar, accompanied by a vertical 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and physical controls. The driver gets a yoke-style steering wheel, while the lower half of the doors can be set to be tinted or opaque at a touch of a button. Rear passengers get their own eight-inch display, with a tri-zone climate system keeping all occupants comfortable from the Saudi heat.

The First Edition versions of the Exobot cars will come with a numbered plaque that matches their VIN number as well as more standard equipment. Buyers can choose from Harrat Grey or White Musk exterior finishes, with the Plus version replacing the First Edition when the initial run finishes.

  • Closure of traffic light junction after PLUS Seremban toll for a traffic study postponed to a later date – JKR N9

Closure of traffic light junction after PLUS Seremban toll for a traffic study postponed to a later date – JKR N9

The Negeri Sembilan public works department (JKR) has announced that the planned 24-hour closure of the traffic light intersection after the North South expressway’s Seremban toll exit, which was supposed to have begun today until October 5, has been postponed. The department said that a new date will be announced later.

“The postponement of this study is due to factors beyond the department’s control. Accordingly, the public is advised to take note of this postponement and disregard any information regarding the study’s implementation on the original dates,” the department said in a statement.

The planned closure was intended to facilitate a study on traffic dispersal between the toll plaza exit and Jalan Sungai Ujong, a road notorious for traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours.

The study was supposed to conduct field observations and gather feedback from related agencies to look for an instant fix, as well as examine possible infrastructure improvements for the medium and long term.

Hyundai Stargazer MPV launched in Malaysia – 1.5L NA CVT; Style, Prime, 6-seater X; RV guarantee; fr RM99k

The Hyundai Stargazer is now officially launched in Malaysia. The affordable MPV rival to the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz (and by extension, the Perodua Alza) is a CBU import from Indonesia, and is priced at RM99,800 for the base Style, RM109,800 for the Prime and RM121,800 for the range-topping six-seater X, on-the-road excluding insurance.

The final prices match the estimated figures of RM99,XXX for the Style, RM109,XXX for the Prime and RM121,XXX for the X, announced by Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) when they opened order books at KLIMS 2026 in June.

HMY says that the first 800 customers will receive a RM4,600 ‘value package’ that includes an eight-year/160,000 km warranty, four years of free service and a booking fee of only RM88. However, the headline figure includes a RM1,000 ‘all-star reward’ for existing Hyundai customers, and the warranty is standard whether one is early or not.

Hyundai Stargazer MPV launched in Malaysia – 1.5L NA CVT; Style, Prime, 6-seater X; RV guarantee; fr RM99k

The Stargazer is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 115 PS at 6,300 rpm and 144 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. The Smartstream Gamma II four-cylinder MPI unit is mated to a chain-driven CVT with eight virtual speeds that Hyundai calls Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), with drive sent to the front wheels. 1.5L NA CVT is the B-segment class norm, for both MPVs and sedans.

Size wise, the Stargazer is 4,575 mm long (4,610 for the X due to larger bumpers) and 1,780 mm wide (1,820 mm for the X), with a 2,780 mm wheelbase. That’s 20 mm shorter than the Xpander but a full 100 mm longer than the Veloz. With a steeply raked windscreen for an almost one-box shape, the Hyundai is closer in form to the Xpander than the distinctly two-box Veloz/Alza with a prominent bonnet – which style do you prefer?

By the way, we’re getting the Stargazer in its latest facelift form, which surfaced in Indonesia last year as the Stargazer Cartenz. We’ve detailed all the visual changes here, with side-by-side images. The Hyundai’s styling is quite out there for a budget MPV, and the facelift gets even bolder front and rear ends (the original face was more Staria-like).

Hyundai Stargazer MPV launched in Malaysia – 1.5L NA CVT; Style, Prime, 6-seater X; RV guarantee; fr RM99k

The base Style rides on 16-inch wheels, an inch smaller than the others. The X you see here gets a different design with a black finish, along with beefier bumpers, silver decorative skid plates, roof rails, wheel arch extensions and black badging for a tougher, more SUV look. Automatic LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights are standard across the board.

Also on this car is the Gravity Gold Matte paint that’s exclusive to the X. The regular colours are Titan Gray Metallic, Creamy White Pearl and Midnight Black Pearl.

Inside, there’s a widescreen panel with two screens, which on the base model consists of a calculator-style seven-segment LCD instrument cluster and a 4.2-inch multi-info display, as well as an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. The other variants get two 10.25-inch displays with six speakers (four for Style). Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard for all.

Hyundai Stargazer MPV launched in Malaysia – 1.5L NA CVT; Style, Prime, 6-seater X; RV guarantee; fr RM99k

The centre console houses either manual (Style) or auto air-con controls with physical switchgear, along with a conventional gear lever. The latter is missing from the X, which instead gets a twist shifter stalk from the Tucson and Santa Fe (on top of steering paddles), freeing up space for extra storage on the unique stitched centre console, which also houses a wireless charging pad and electronic parking brake (with auto hold).

Speaking of EPB, the Prime and X come with it and the accompanying all round disc brakes, while the Style makes do with a handbrake and rear drum brakes.

A note on the specs of our X compared to the top version in Indonesia – we miss out on luxuries such as nine Bose speakers, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera and powered/ventilated front seats, perhaps to keep prices competitive for a CBU import.

Hyundai Stargazer MPV launched in Malaysia – 1.5L NA CVT; Style, Prime, 6-seater X; RV guarantee; fr RM99k

Upholstery is fabric on the Style, part faux leather on the Prime and full faux leather for the X (with ‘X’ embossed on the front seats). The Prime and X get leather padding on dash, but the Style makes do with printed plastic stitching.

Seven seats are standard on this three-row vehicle, with the X only offered as a six-seater with second-row captain’s chairs. All but the base model get a fold-out table on the front passenger seat back, and there are roof-mounted air vents with dedicated blower controls, a standard feature in this segment.

With all seats upright, the boot can hold just 182 litres, but maximum cargo volume is expandable to 1,892 litres with the second (60:40 split) and third rows folded flat. No spare tyre here, but a repair kit and tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS).

Safety wise, the Stargazer comes with just two airbags as standard – you’ll have to step up to the Prime and X to get six airbags and the full SmartSense driver assist pack, which include autonomous emergency braking, blind spot assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, rear cross traffic alert with auto brake, front departure alert, driver attention monitor, safe exit warning and auto high beam. TPMS and rear occupant alert, too. The X adds on a dashcam.

Again, the price is RM99,800 for the Style, RM109,800 for the Prime and RM121,800 for the X, with an early bird package said to be worth RM4,600. For context, the Mitsubishi Xpander is priced from RM99,980 to RM109,980, while the single-spec Toyota Veloz retails for RM95,000. Both are CKD locally assembled. With a price range from RM62,500 to RM75,500, the Perodua Alza is of course the segment sales leader.

At the launch, HMY announced a ‘Resale Value Protection’ scheme for the Stargazer – buyers are guaranteed 70% value of the RRP at year three (up to 60,000 km), 60% for year four (80,000 km) and 50% for year five (100,000 km). While you don’t have to pay extra to opt-in, the trade-in value has to go towards the purchase of a new Hyundai vehicle.

So, what do you think of the Hyundai Stargazer’s design and price/package?

Team Germany wins 2026 BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy in Romania after six days of competition

Team Germany has won the men’s competition at the 2026 BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy in Romania, finishing on 203 points after six days and around 1,500 km of demanding riding through the Carpathian Mountains. Team Europe claimed the women’s title with 200 points, finishing 16 points clear of Team International on 184.

Fabian Fenner, Norman Pleissner and Florian Thomann secured the men’s victory, finishing 56 points ahead of Team Europe, while Ukraine took third with 144 points. In the women’s category, Great Britain’s Chrissie Harcourt and the Netherlands’ Anja Filak delivered the winning performance for Team Europe, with Australia third on 164 points.

The women’s competition was particularly close going into the final challenge, with just two points separating Team Europe and Team International before the decisive test. Team Europe ultimately extended its advantage to 16 points to secure the title. Team Germany, meanwhile, began the final challenge with an 11-point lead in the men’s competition.

The tenth edition of the GS Trophy covered around 1,500 km, with approximately half the route off-road. Riders spent up to 11 to 12 hours on the move for three consecutive days, tackling narrow forest trails, washed-out mountain tracks, riverbeds and historic high-altitude routes.

The competition was contested on the BMW R 12 G/S, the base model R 12 is priced at RM121,000 in Malaysia. The G/S was put through a wide range of terrain during the event, from technical single trails and steep mountain climbs to deep gravel, wet grass and riverbeds.

Upgrading of 17.1 km of ‘redline’ roads of Pan-Borneo highway in Sarawak scheduled for completion in 2028

The works ministry says that upgrading work for the redline sections of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway (short stretch) is expected to be completed by early 2028. Redline sections are old roads that existed before the Pan-Borneo highway came to be.

The 17.1 km project involves upgrading pavement structures at nine locations, including Lachau, Selangau, Balingian, Kemena, Sebiew and Tudan. Before the project began, about 87% of the existing alignment consisted of single-carriageway, two-lane roads, the New Straits Times reports.

The ministry said it hoped the upgrading works would proceed smoothly, remain on schedule and meet the required quality standards. It said that it would, together with Sarawak PWD, continuously and strictly monitor the project to ensure the contractor complies with safety standards and the established timeline,.

Back in 2024, both the federal and state governments decided that the entire 134 km stretch of the redline, which connects to the highway, was in need of repairs. At that point, the government announced that it had allocated RM600 million for the repair of critical redline sections, with the savings from the Pan-Borneo highway project providing the necessary funds.

  • H plate’s RM91.2 million to help taxi drivers – fitting, as H was the taxi prefix; good news next week, says Loke

H plate’s RM91.2 million to help taxi drivers – fitting, as H was the taxi prefix; good news next week, says Loke

The record-breaking “H” number plate series – which raked in RM91.2 million for JPJ, the highest ever for a single registration series – will end up giving back to the very trade the letter once represented. Transport minister Anthony Loke says the ministry will use its share of the proceeds to help taxi and rental car drivers across the country.

In a Facebook post, Loke explained the split: half of the RM91.2 million goes into the Federal Consolidated Revenue Account, while the other half will fund the transport ministry’s people-oriented initiatives.

And there’s a neat bit of history guiding where that second half goes. The H prefix was originally the registration marking for taxis – Malaysian taxi plates have long begun with H, for “hire” – and Loke says that with the series generating such a handsome return, the ministry will channel the money into helping taxi and hire car drivers nationwide.

What form that help takes will be revealed soon. “There will be good news for taxi drivers next week,” Loke wrote.

The move would extend the ministry’s recent run of taxi-focused programmes, most visibly Teksi Madani, the taxi renewal scheme that has put red Proton S70 cabs on roads across the country, most recently expanding to Sabah. Notably, the announcement will land after Loke said he would resign as transport minister – he indicated then that outstanding work would be completed in an orderly handover, and this appears to be part of it.

As a recap, the Malaysia Day-themed H series was open for bidding via JPJeBid from September 16-20, with H 1 alone fetching a record RM10,777,777.

    2026 Proton S70 MC2 NA gets 10k bookings in 2 weeks – Lite and Prime fr below RM60k, launching Sept 22, 8pm

Quite a popular car, isn’t it? Proton has announced that the naturally-aspirated version of the S70 – part of the upcoming MC2 facelift lineup – has racked up 10,000 booking in exactly two weeks since it was announced earlier this month.

According to the national carmaker, this works out to one order every two minutes. While certainly impressive, it will take a while before those bookings are fulfilled, given that Proton’s sales are currently held back by production bottlenecks; the company doubtlessly wants to prioritise getting more units of the Saga into customers’ hands.

Jut one more day to go before the car is launched, with the event set to be livestreamed tomorrow, September 22 at 8pm. You’ll be able to watch the stream on Proton’s socials on Facebook and TikTok, just like we will be.

    2026 Proton S70 MC2 NA gets 10k bookings in 2 weeks – Lite and Prime fr below RM60k, launching Sept 22, 8pm

To recap, the NA S70 will extend the erstwhile turbo-only lineup downwards, essentially forming an indirect replacement for the soon-to-be-discontinued Persona. Proton promises a starting price of under RM60,000, which is very competitive indeed.

A total of two variants will be offered, these being the Lite and Prime. While exact pricing has yet to be revealed, a leaked internal presentation slide suggests that the former will be priced between RM55,000 to RM59,000 (jut a few thousand ringgit more than the top-spec Saga Premium), while the latter is expected to retail at between RM65,000 to RM69,000.

Both will be powered by the Saga MC3’s 120 PS/150 Nm 1.5 litre BHE15-CFN i-GT four-cylinder engine and a new torque converter CVT, likely the same WLY unit used in the S70’s Chinese-market twin, the Geely Emgrand. It’s expected to offer that car’s simulated eight-speed mode, albeit operated through the S70 Turbo’s exclusive electronic gearlever.

On the outside, the NA version is differentiated through the full gloss black grille. The specs are largely similar to the Executive turbo’s, except the Lite gets halogen headlights – something it makes up for with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto up/down windows and a reverse camera.

The Prime adds back LED headlights and introduces auto air con, faux leather and 17-inch alloy wheels (up from 16s), the latter previously reserved for the Flagship. One downside of choosing these two models is that neither can be had with advanced driver assists, not even autonomous emergency braking – something even the Saga Premium has for less money.

  • Proton Credit launched – dedicated financing arm to offer Proton customers car loans without going through banks

Proton Credit launched – dedicated financing arm to offer Proton customers car loans without going through banks

Proton has launched a new automotive financing company called Proton Capital. The automaker says its new entity will provide customers an additional route to owning a Proton vehicle by complementing the options currently available in the automotive finance market.

Working closely with the company’s authorised dealer network, the company aims to provide a more integrated, efficient and customer-focused financing experience, from making an application to vehicle delivery.

At point of launch, Proton Capital will offer conventional hire-purchase financing for new Proton vehicles, including a standard fixed-rate package and a dedicated package for the Proton S70 in the Teksi Madani programme. As Proton Credit isn’t a bank, it doesn’t run the same financial credit or CTOS checks, which would make it beneficial to those without a consistent income, such as taxi/e-hailing drivers.

The company added that it plans to introduce more products progressively, including financing designed for e-hailing customers. A Shariah-compliant financing option is targeted for introduction in early November, subject to product availability and the relevant terms and conditions.

Proton Credit launched – dedicated financing arm to offer Proton customers car loans without going through banks

In terms of its workings, that of Proton Capital is similar to BMW Credit and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. Toyota also has a similar financial arm called Toyota Capital. Both BMW Credit and MB Financial Services offer financing options like EasyDrive and Agility with Guaranteed Future Value, and/or balloon or step-up financing, although it remains to be seen if Proton Credit will have similar solutions to make car ownership more affordable.

That could possibly come further down the road, as intimated by Proton Capital CEO, Song Tao. β€œWe will begin with standard hire-purchase products and expand our offerings as we better understand the needs of different customer groups,” he said.

The official introduction of the company also saw the formal authorisation of 10 dealerships that will offer Proton Capital services. During its initial phase, the financing arm will serve eligible individual customers purchasing new Proton vehicles through 12 participating outlets in the Klang Valley.

Applicants may include salaried employees, self-employed individuals and customers with other verifiable sources of income. According to Proton Capital, each application will be assessed individually, taking applicants’ income, existing financial commitments, credit information and repayment affordability into consideration.

The company said that no application fee will be charged for submitting a financing application. Any stamp duty, statutory charges, insurance or takaful premium, registration charges and other applicable fees will be disclosed in the relevant product disclosure sheet before the financing agreement is signed.

All approvals remain subject to the company’s prevailing credit policies, required documentation and applicable terms and conditions. For complete and straightforward applications, Proton Capital aims to provide an initial decision within one working day, while applications requiring additional documents, verification or further credit assessment will take a little longer.

For successful applicants, monthly instalments may be paid through online banking or DuitNow transfer using the unique CIMB Bank account assigned to the financing account while a direct debit option is also available. Customers are also encouraged to insure their vehicles using the Proton Insurance Program for total protection, subject to successful vehicle registration.

  • H series plate earns RM91.2 million in revenue – H 1 number plate sets new bidding record, RM10,777,777

H series plate earns RM91.2 million in revenue – H 1 number plate sets new bidding record, RM10,777,777

It’s official. There’s a new record for the highest amount paid for a vehicle registration plate in Malaysia, and that figure is RM10,777,777, which was paid to secure the H 1 plate, easily eclipsing the previous record of RM1.75 million for the FFF1 plate in the FFF series plate launched in 2024.

The transport ministry confirmed the winning bid in a statement, which also revealed other bidding results and data for the H special number plate series, for which bids opened on September 16 and concluded on September 20, yesterday night.

The H plate series recorded a total revenue of RM91,206,642 from the bidding process, which was conducted entirely through the JPJeBid system. The breakdown of the total is RM89,266,542 in bid revenue and RM1,940,100 in service fees.

A total of 34,664 bidders participated, and 8,223 registration numbers were successfully bid upon (the series runs as per usual, from H 1 to H 9999). Besides the record-setting H 1 bid, the ministry also revealed the other highest winning bids in the top 10 list. No surprise to see that the bids for the eight other single-digit plates outstripped the 2024 record, as can be seen in the panel below.

H series plate earns RM91.2 million in revenue – H 1 number plate sets new bidding record, RM10,777,777

Meanwhile, the numbers attracting the highest number of bidders were H 1001 and H 100, with 37 bidders each, followed by H 1805 with 36 bidders, and H 1777 and H 4818, with 32 bidders each.

In the statement, transport minister Anthony Loke said the resounding success of the H special series plate was not merely about figures or registration numbers, but ensuring that national revenue is translated into tangible benefits for the people.

He said that all revenue generated from the plate series will be channeled back to the people via various programmes and initiatives by the ministry and the road transport department (JPJ), including road safety programs and initiatives that directly benefit the community.

Dongfeng at Carro Autofair 2026, Sept 25-27 at Puchong South – pre-reg deals, save up to RM46,088 off RRP

Dongfeng will be offering limited units of pre-registered Vigo SUVs and 007 sedans at prices that are, frankly, a long way below what the same cars cost new. They’ll be at Carro Puchong South from September 25-27, 9am to 7pm daily, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.

Here’s what’s on the floor and what it costs.

    Dongfeng Vigo – RM79,800, a saving of RM29,088

Dongfeng at Carro Autofair 2026, Sept 25-27 at Puchong South – pre-reg deals, save up to RM46,088 off RRP

The Vigo is Dongfeng’s compact electric SUV, the one that squares up to the BYD Atto 2. It runs a 163 PS/230 Nm front motor off a 51.87 kWh LFP battery for up to 380 km of WLTP range, with a 12.8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six airbags, Level 2 ADAS and 18-inch alloys. Its party trick is the split tailgate – the lower half folds out into a bench that holds 150 kg, so it doubles as a seat for tailgating, camping or lacing up hiking boots in front of a 500-litre boot.

It retails at RM108,888. At the Autofair, the pre-registered Vigo is RM79,800 – a saving of RM29,088 off list. That makes it one of the cheapest C-segment electric SUVs you can put on the road in Malaysia right now.

    Dongfeng 007 – Premium RM129,800, Prime RM149,800

Dongfeng at Carro Autofair 2026, Sept 25-27 at Puchong South – pre-reg deals, save up to RM46,088 off RRP

The 007 is the head-turner – a sleek electric fastback that takes on the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3, and one that Nissan liked enough to rebadge as its own N7. Both variants share a 73.48 kWh LFP battery with 200 kW DC fast charging, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a 19-speaker Wanos sound system with speakers in the driver’s headrest, and a 540-degree camera.

The Long Range RWD Premium puts 272 PS and 310 Nm to the rear wheels for a 5.8-second 0-100 km/h time and up to 530 km of WLTP range. It retails at RM169,888; at the fair, the pre-registered Premium is RM129,800, a saving of RM40,088.

The AWD Prime adds a front motor for 544 PS and 620 Nm – enough for a 3.9-second sprint to 100 km/h, which puts it in a different postcode from anything else at this price – with 463 km of WLTP range. It retails at RM195,888; the pre-registered Prime is RM149,800, a saving of RM46,088.

To put things into perspective, you can buy the most powerful and specced up Dongfeng 007 for around the price of the Tesla Model 3 “Rahmah”.

    What pre-registered means

These are cars registered with delivery mileage only – as good as new to sit in. Dongfeng’s cover is a six-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty and eight years, unlimited mileage, on the drive battery.

    Come and get a number

The pre-reg prices above are published, and they’re the same for everyone. What isn’t published is what Carro can do around them for you on the day – your trade-in valuation, financing, and whatever else the team has in the drawer for the Autofair – which is why the smart move is to sit down with the Dongfeng Carro team at Puchong South and ask for a personalised quote before someone else drives your unit home. Three days, limited cars, first come first served.

And the rest of the fair

There’s also Zeekr, Omoda Jaecoo, iCaur and Chery under the same roof, Carro Certified used cars at special prices, selected official pre-owned units from the new-car brands, and food trucks and activities to keep the family occupied while you take that test drive.

Otherwise, see you at Carro Puchong South.

  • KPDN hopes that subsidy allocations, including SKDS, will continue to receive due attention in Budget 2027

KPDN hopes that subsidy allocations, including SKDS, will continue to receive due attention in Budget 2027

Despite the fiscal challenges posed by the rising cost of fuel subsidies, the ministry of domestic trade and cost of living (KPDN) hopes that the allocation of subsidies for fuel and controlled goods will continue to receive due attention in the upcoming Budget 2027.

It hopes that subsidy allocations for the subsidised diesel control system (SKDS) as well as that for cooking oil and the price standardisation programme for Sabah and Sarawak, will be maintained, as the New Straits Times reports.

According to KPDN minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, the allocations were important to enable the ministry to carry out its responsibilities effectively, particularly in ensuring that the supply and prices of goods remained stable.

KPDN hopes that subsidy allocations, including SKDS, will continue to receive due attention in Budget 2027

“Most importantly for us now, amid such major challenges, is to ensure that consumer subsidies can be maintained. For example, this year alone, under Budget 2026, RM15 billion was allocated for fuel subsidies, but now the fiscal space that needs to be used for fuel subsidies has almost reached RM40 billion. That is an increase of almost threefold. So, that is one of the challenges,” he said.

Armizan said the government’s targeted subsidy reforms had enabled subsidies to continue reaching eligible groups despite rising costs, with mechanisms such as SKDS and Budi Diesel enabling fuel subsidies to continue reaching eligible groups, while the subsidised packet cooking oil programme has been maintained despite higher crude palm oil prices.

He said that the ministry had submitted its applications and several key areas for consideration by the finance ministry for Budget 2027, taking into account current needs and the country’s fiscal capacity.

  • Closure of traffic light junction after PLUS Seremban toll for Jalan Sungai Ujong traffic study – Sept 22 to Oct 5

Closure of traffic light junction after PLUS Seremban toll for Jalan Sungai Ujong traffic study – Sept 22 to Oct 5

Take note, PLUS users and Seremban folks. JKR Negeri Sembilan has announced the closure of the traffic light junction after the North South Highway’s Seremban exit. The 24-hour closure is from tomorrow (September 22) till October 5.

The state’s works department says that the closure of the major intersection is for a traffic dispersion study of the toll exit and Jalan Sungai Ujong – congestion in this area is infamous.

JKR adds that there will be field observations and feedback from related agencies. They will have discussions on an instant fix as well as suggestions on infrastructure improvements for the medium and long term.

During the traffic light junction closure, those coming in from PLUS heading towards Seremban town will have to turn left towards Jalan Labu (where Seremban Gateway II is) and make another left turn at the junction. Those who want to head to Jalan Lingkaran Tengah Rembau / Kuala Pilah / Kuala Klawang cannot turn right at the junction – they must also U-turn ahead of Seremban Gateway II before going straight.

The U-turn is also needed for those heading towards Seremban 2, Sendayan and Seremban Gateway I. Check out the map above for a better picture. It sounds complicated but this study is needed before concrete measures are taken to (hopefully) solve the congestion in this major chokepoint. Drive safe.

  • 2027 Geely Galaxy E5/EX5 facelift shown – Proton eMas 7 twin gets subtle redesign to go with RWD revamp

2027 Geely Galaxy E5/EX5 facelift shown – Proton eMas 7 twin gets subtle redesign to go with RWD revamp

Three months after it appeared in a Chinese ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) filing, the facelifted Geely Galaxy E5 (known globally as the EX5) has been revealed ahead of its launch on September 23. This is, of course, the twin to the Proton eMas 7, and as previously reported, this latest update promises a massive revamp under the skin.

Not much has changed when it comes to the design. You still get a fairly featureless SUV body with slim headlights and a full-width taillights, along with black wheel arch trims and a diffuser-like rear valance.

The front bumper, however, is new, sporting a full-width black strip that curves upwards at the corners to integrate the air curtain inlets, making the car look like it’s grinning widely. Underlining it is a sizeable silver β€œchin” that also incorporates the centre air intake.

2027 Geely Galaxy E5/EX5 facelift shown – Proton eMas 7 twin gets subtle redesign to go with RWD revamp

Finishing off the look are a range of new 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel options, including a multi-spoke design typical of Geely’s latest Galaxy models. Measuring 4,636 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,670 mm tall, the facelifted E5 is 21 mm longer and 19 mm wider than before, while its 2,750 mm wheelbase is unchanged.

There aren’t many tweaks on the inside, either, save for the steering wheel. The old car’s odd oblong two-spoke unit has been replaced by a more conventional three-spoke wheel with only a flat bottom, something we already saw on the Monjaro EM-i. The seat upholstery has also been redesigned with a symmetrical pattern that ditches the odd silver pin.

Beyond that, you still appear to get a one-touch “zero gravity” reclining passenger seat with a built-in ottoman, a panoramic sunroof with built-in sunshade, a 10.2-inch instrument display, a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a head-up display, a Qi wireless charger and a distinctive multifunction control knob.

2027 Geely Galaxy E5/EX5 facelift shown – Proton eMas 7 twin gets subtle redesign to go with RWD revamp

While the design has been mostly carried over, the earlier MIIT filing hints at a significant rework under the skin. For a start, the power output has increased from 218 PS (160 kW) to a heady 333 PS (245 kW), which will have a big effect on the car’s acceleration. As a refresher, the eMas 7 is able to get from zero to 100 km/h in as little as 6.9 seconds; expect the new car to complete the century sprint in the fives.

Not much else has been revealed, but the charging port has been move to the rear – and with it comes a likely switch to a rear-wheel-drive layout. Yes, just like the BYD Atto 3, the E5 looks set to undergo an Evo-style reengineering to make it better to drive, which apparently also provides space for a large front boot.

Also expected is a next-generation Aegis short blade LFP battery that should provide more range, up from the maximum of 475 km the current car with a 68.39 kWh pack musters on the WLTP cycle. Hopefully, this change brings a corresponding upgrade to an 800-volt architecture for over 200 kW DC fast charging (115 kW currently), similar to the Atto 3.

In China, the E5 is also set to receive Geely’s mid-range G-Pilot H5 driver assist system, as evidenced by the lidar sensor at the top of the windscreen and cameras on the front fenders and atop the rear spoiler. This enables highly-autonomous city and highway driving as well as remote park assist, although this will almost certainly be exclusive to the Middle Kingdom.

Don’t expect this facelift to be applied to the eMas 7 anytime soon, given that it was only just updated with the Premium Plus model – and that local assembly only began late last year. Maybe next year?
