Is Bing maps going to be discontinued?

I saw a post from over a year ago asking about whether Bing Maps is being discontinued in light of Azure Maps.
The post mentioned that very minimal cases require only the map, but our case is one of those very minimal cases and we had a program written years ago to utilize Bing Maps.

Does this program need updated if all we need is the map we receive from the current program?

For clarity there are three different Bing Maps types to know about. There is the Bing Maps consumer site (https://bing.com/maps) which is a public website which isn't going anywhere. Then there is the Bing Maps for Enterprise platform which allows developers to use APIs to add Bing Maps to their apps and websites. This is retiring. Unlicensed accounts are being shut down at the end of June 2025. While licensed accounts have till the end of June 2028. Then there is other Microsoft products that have built in maps that use Bing Maps, like Dynamics CRM. The future of that depends on how its implemented. Some of these products require customers to bring their own Bing Maps license, and thus would be bound to the previously mentioned time like, while others are managed internally at Microsoft and will most likely continue to run until June 2028 at which point each product likely has a different plan and best to check with them (note I'm not on the Azure Maps team).

It looks like you're concerned about the future of Bing Maps, especially since you have a program that uses it for mapping purposes. Here’s what you need to know:

Bing Maps for Enterprise is indeed being deprecated, and customers with an enterprise license can use it until June 30, 2028. However, if you’re using a free or basic license, support will end much sooner, on June 30, 2025. At that point, existing keys will stop working, and you won’t be able to access Bing Maps for your application as you do now.

Given your situation, if your program relies solely on Bing Maps for basic mapping features, it will need to be updated fairly soon — unless you're on an enterprise license, in which case you have some more time. However, I'd recommend planning to transition to Azure Maps, as it offers similar functionality and is supported moving forward.
