hk's perf workflows never set MBX_DISABLE, so routing this task through the cargo wrapper gained nothing; keep the explicit mbx call from 16284b2. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The mr-boxington action was pinned to mbx 1.8.1 while mise.toml pins 1.14.0, so CI never exercised the version contributors use. Let the action reuse the mise-installed mbx and bump cache-generation so builds don't restore build-script shims written by the older mbx. The cache benchmarks keep their deliberate 1.8.1 baseline. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The cache benchmarks seed the target cache CI restores, so they must use the same mbx version and cache generation as the CI consumers. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Contributors building hk locally now get mbx 1.14.0. mise still wraps
cargowith mbx through the existing[wrappers.cargo]entry, somise runtasks and wrappedcargocommands share compiled work across checkouts as before.mise.locknow installs mr-boxington through mise'spackslip:backend. Each platform entry is checked against a sigstore signature from the mr-boxington release workflow. Only the mr-boxington block of the lockfile changed.min_versionraised from mise 2026.8.16 to 2026.9.2. That is the first mise release with thepackslip:backend, so older mise can't read the new lockfile. Runmise self-updateif mise refuses to load the config.ci-impl.ymlanddocs-impl.ymlpinned the mr-boxington action to mbx 1.8.1, so CI never used the version inmise.toml. They now reuse the mise-installed 1.14.0. The cache benchmarks incache-benchmark.ymlandwarm-cache-benchmark.ymlseed the target cache CI restores, and they don't install tools through mise, so they now pin 1.14.0 explicitly; keep that pin in step withmise.toml. Every consumer and producer moves fromcache-generation: ci-v1toci-v2, so nothing restores build-script shims written by 1.8.1. The first runs after merge start with a cold mbx cache.docs/contributing.mdno longer links to the removed guidance. CONTRIBUTING.md keeps a short note:mise runtasks andmise exec -- cargo …use the wrapper, plaincargodoes too once mise is activated in your shell, and builds that setMBX_DISABLE=1skip the cache (exceptperf:build, which keeps its explicitmbx build --release).Unchanged on purpose: the direct
mbx build/mbx testcalls inci-impl.yml, the directmbxcalls incache-benchmark.ymlandwarm-cache-benchmark.yml,MBX_DISABLEinrelease.yml, and the[wrappers.cargo]entry.Validation (Linux x64, mise 2026.9.11):
mbx --version: 1.14.0.mbx doctor: 0 failures, 0 warnings.mise run pkl:gen, thencargo checkthrough the wrapper: finished with mbx cache hits.MBX_DISABLE=1 cargo --version: works.hk check --from-ref origin/main(hk 2.0.1): all steps passed, including the docs build and link check.AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-opus-5; version: 2.1.270.

Note
Low Risk
Changes are limited to tool pins, lockfile provenance, CI cache keys, and documentation; expect a one-time cold mbx cache in CI after merge and contributors may need
mise self-updatefor the new minimum version.Overview
Upgrades local and CI tooling to mbx 1.14.0 and aligns GitHub Actions with the version from
mise.toml, while bumping the shared CI cache key so older mbx artifacts are not restored.mise.tomlpins mr-boxington 1.14.0 and raisesmin_versionto 2026.9.2 so the lockfile can use mise’spackslip:backend.mise.lockupdates download URLs, checksums, and sigstore release signing for all platforms. In CI,
mr-boxington-actionsteps movecache-generationfromci-v1toci-v2. Main build/docs jobs drop the explicitversion: 1.8.1pin so they use the mise-installed 1.14.0; cache benchmark workflows pin 1.14.0 where they still set a version (including the warm benchmark default).Contributor docs drop the long MBX_DISABLE / mr-boxington troubleshooting sections from
AGENTS.mdandCONTRIBUTING.md, replacing them with a short note on how mise wrapscargoand when the cache is skipped.docs/contributing.mdno longer links to the removed guidance.Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit 60db89f. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo. Configure here.
