Instruction countsNothing was compared, and so nothing was gated. No series appears on both sides: either the base has no measurements recorded, or the two were measured on different runner classes, which are deliberately not comparable — counts shift between machine types by more than a real regression does. New, nothing to compare against: Only instruction counts gate. Wall clock is shown for context — on identical hardware it moves 4-20% run to run. Measured by tak — instruction-counted CLI benchmarks, stored in this repository's git notes.

…t track` Re-tracking a path whose declaration would be written identically no longer prompts, rewrites the config file, or records a baseline checkpoint when nothing changed; it reports the path as already tracked. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Running
mise dot trackagain on a path that is already tracked went through the whole enrollment again. It asked for confirmation, rewrote the config file, recorded a fresh baseline checkpoint even when nothing had changed, and reported the path as newly tracked:Now, when the declaration would be written exactly as it already is, the command leaves the config file untouched, skips the prompt, and says so. This applies to both inline and
[dotfiles."path"]table declarations:A re-track still records a checkpoint when there is something to record. That covers file contents changed since the newest checkpoint, and a hand-edited declaration (for example, a new
includelist) that history has not picked up yet. Tracking with a flag that changes the declaration, such as--no-autosaveor--os, still rewrites it and prompts as before. In a command that mixes new and already-tracked paths, the prompt lists only the new ones. Repeating a path in one command treats it as one target. Re-tracking an autosave-enabled path still reports watcher health, including a stopped-watcher warning.Reported in #13638.

Medium Risk
Changes dotfiles enrollment and history baseline/checkpoint skipping; behavior is well covered by new e2e tests but affects user config and git history state.
Overview
mise dot trackon a path whose declaration already matches what the command would write is now treated as a re-track, not a fresh enrollment.Re-tracks leave the config file unchanged (inline and long-form
[dotfiles."path"]tables), skip the confirmation prompt when every target is a re-track, and logis already trackedinstead oftracking. Declaration files are written only when something actually changed (DeclarationEdit.changed), and duplicate path spellings in one invocation are deduplicated before editing.Baseline capture still runs on re-track, but history
Draft.skip_unchangedavoids creating a checkpoint when the snapshot matches the newest one—so unchanged re-tracks do not bump git HEAD. Re-tracks with edited file contents or flags that change the declaration (e.g.--no-autosave,--os) behave as before: rewrite, prompt when needed, and save when there is a diff. Mixed new + already-tracked paths prompt only for the new ones; watcher health is reported when any involved path has autosave enabled.Adds
