Steam Link

So Bluetooth does not work with the new Steam Controller on Steamlink hardware?
As the title states, I tried connecting the new controller to Steamlink, but constantly got a "Bluetooth connection failed: Unable to complete pairing" error message. Is there no BT support for the new controller on Steamlink hw, or could it be that I'm may not be doing something right?
Edit: It seems like the usb connection isn't working properly either.

The Steam Link hardware does not support the new Steam Controller over Bluetooth. You should use the Puck, which is supported and has much lower latency.
The puck isn’t an option for using steam link with Apple TV 4K unfortunately.

Thanks, Slouken. Unfortunately, when I try to connect using the puck, it works fine as long as I have a direct usb connection to Steamlink hw. But as soon as I reconnect to the puck for a wireless connection, the controller's still trying to find a bluetooth connection instead, then eventually shuts itself down...never establishing a wireless connection with the puck.

Is there a way to bring the controller back to its factory settings?
Update: Using the Feature and Troubleshooting Guide, I managed to "forget" the bluetooth connection through settings and finally got the puck to connect wirelessly.

Apple TV 4K should support it via Bluetooth just fine?

The issue is that the new Controller needs a Bluetooth Low Energy feature called Data Length Extensions, and the OG Steam Link hardware -- the original little Linux box, from before Steam Link existed as an app elsewhere -- is just too old to support that. Apple TV hardware, however, is more recent and supports DLE just fine.

Apple TV recognises the controller and pairs, but the controller isn’t detected within steam link. The Apple TV sees it as a Bluetooth keyboard rather than a controller.

Well, that's definitely a bug! But it's not related to the controller not working on the OG Link hardware. :)

Could you post that one over in the Apple TV forum, so it doesn't get lost? ("General Discussion" is perhaps not as intuitively named as it should be -- it's really for the hardware Link, because it dates back to when the hardware Link was the *only* Link.)
Just wanted to confirm that I experienced the same error with Bluetooth on the link box with the new steam controller.

I also use open puck and it works well but I get frequent disconnections. I'm hoping it's just the cable or something. Anyone else have more info on this?

Can you confirm that on build 928, latest steam link version, that this is still working for you? All I need to do is have the pick connected to the steam link and 'forget' any bluetooth connections for controllers on their settings? Then the puck will connect with the new steam controller wirelessly?
The Steam Beta update on the 7th of october lists the following firmware update for the Steam Controller

Steam Controller Firmware
Fixed an issue where switching to BLE mode would stick, even if the host device could not be found

Doesn't the spec require negotiation to use DLE? And all BLE devices are strictly required to support non-DLE. I hope Valve is not releasing noncompliant hardware!

Are you implying that the new steam controller will connect wirelessly if the puck is connected to the steam link directly? Because it didn't work when i tried it.

This indeed works for me (when using open puck at least. I haven't tried with the official yet). But for me it disconnects frequently.
I have a puck connected to my Steam Link and that's how I use it daily. Can you try connecting your puck and Steam controller to your PC and make sure the firmware is up to date?

Thanks, I'll try again when i have the chance. The steam controller is currently connected/recognized by the steam machine. Would you advise to 'forget' the steam controller on the steam machine?

If i dont do that, i would have to unplug the steam machine from its power source before i attempt to connect it with the Steam Link. Otherwise the controller will boot up the steam machine instead of trying to find the puck connected to the steam link.
