Steam Link

Moonlight port ?
Hello I wanted to know if a moonlight port is possible on the steam link architecture? It would be the best app and the only thing missing from the link (stream over distance)
thanks if anyone knows.

Youll need to put java on the steam link for moonlight to work.
You can add external links to Steam and it would work for Streaming. Why use moonlight?
I agree this would be a fantastic addition. Right now Gamestream works better on my network than Steam In-Home Streaming. Having every option centralized on the Steam Link would make it a wonderful game streaming machine (especially since the Nvidia Gamestream machines are pretty expensive).

If Moonlight requires Java to run, do you think it would be possible on the Steam Link at 1080@60 ? Having the choice between two different streaming protocols would be totally awesome!
The reason we want a moonlight port is that you can use it to stream outside of home. You can type your static IP away from home and stream all your games remotely and not only inside the same network. If steam adds this feature later, yes maybe not really point of doing it then, but still my own opinion is - the more choices-the better!

P.S. pi3 with moonlight works almost flawlessly streaming on 10 kilometers from home with almost no lag.
Also after the retroarch port I can ditch the pi and only use steamlink, mostly because of the simpleness and super nice controller support out of the box.

Please steam os team, add an option for remote streaming!
I don't think there going to add it.
You could always try and do it your self.
Ftr: there's a moonlight-embedded project now, which is pure C, no Java required. Still a hell to build for the Link, probably.
ahh, ok so im a bit of an idiot.. therefor i deleted my own comment. Either way, I'm setting up linux, i going to make an attempt at figuring out how to compile this for the steam link.. so I'm going to take the mame4all example and the kodi example and attempt to figure out what was changed from their respective raspberry pi counterparts.. it may never amount to anything, probably will never be finished or working by me (my entire knowledge of actual coding comes down to a handful of hello worlds in various languages) but hey we all gotta start somewhere and it looks like the majority of the hard work (porting to arm) is done already. I will am trying though in my spare time, with my 3 kids, wife, school and life

I can't say if my build is better or worse, but it seems to work well and is the newest build as of today. All I tried is the mouse and a card game with it.

They actually have Steamlink build instructions on the github source page.

Do the normal steamlink/apps thing with the file.

Wow, this is awesome, thank you!
Steam Link is now an officially supported platform for Moonlight, so I've created a new discussion thread for it: https://steamcommunity.com/app/353380/discussions/1/1814296273137162419/
