After updating to this version, whenever I press ALT+TAB, the Steam Link app freezes, and the only way to close it is to force quit.
I'm on a Steam Deck, latest SteamOS stable version (3.7.25), using the app in gaming mode.

To clarify... do you mean you're streaming *from* a Steam Deck to the standalone Linux client, or do you mean you're running the standalone Linux client on the Steam Deck and streaming from something else (Windows 10, Windows 11, a different Linux box, etc.) *to* the Steam Deck?

If you're running the standalone Linux client on the Deck, do you mind if I ask why? Especially if in gaming mode. Steam's built-in Remote Play is functionally the same thing with less overhead.

Hi, sorry for taking 3 days to answer. Steam didn't notify me.
-.-

Details incoming:
- I stream from a Windows 11 PC (host) to the Steam Deck (client) using the Steam Link app that is on the discover store. The app that freezes is the Steam Link app on the Steam Deck.
Also tried this with my Windows 11 laptop (host 2), and the issue persisted, so... might be a Windows-Linux issue? Dunno.

- I don't mind you asking. Steam built-in Remote play is great for games, but not so much for actual desktop streaming. For... work reasons, I have found myself in need to stream my Windows PC many times, and the Steam Link app has been the best method for me.
Are there better software for this? Maybe. The ones that i tried either resulted in failure, or were a hassle to set up (looking at you, Moonlight).
Plus, even if Steam added a way to just use the Steam client to stream my desktop, the Linux client has its own settings. This way, I can have separate configurations for desktop use and gaming.

And... that's all, i guess. Am i missing any other detail you might like to know about?

FYI, there actually already is a way to stream your desktop from the Steam client, though it's maybe not as intuitively discoverable as it could be.

If you go to Steam -> Settings, and then pick Remote Play, you'll see a list of everything your Steam client has paired with (either as a client that your Steam install streamed to, or as a host that your Steam install streamed from). If it's a remote host, you'll see a Connect button, which will just stream the remote machine without selecting a game, same as the standalone client does.

I can definitely see wanting separate configurations for gaming and desktop use, though; that makes sense. I wonder if that's a thing that would be worth adding to the client (multiple configurations you could switch between), though it's probably a pretty niche use case.

And no, that's all I needed. Just wasn't sure what the setup was in order to test what might be going wrong.

I knew i did it from the Steam client once! By complete accident but... doesn't matter!
Thanks for the heads up!
Definetly not as comfy as using the Steam Link app, but i know this info will be handy someday (for me, at least).

Wish you luck with that. Really appreciate it.
Have a nice day :D

Further testing on this.
The freezes seem to be an issue only while in gaming mode.
In desktop mode, the Steam Link app doesn't freeze. Pressing ALT+TAB changes windows on the Steam Deck desktop (client) but not on the Windows PC (host).
Understandable, as it would be confusing and messy if it did so on both at the same time.
It would be nice to have some kind of option to choose where the shortcuts should be executed. Like Host, Client... Both and None?

Anyways, going back to the issue, i also tried doing ALT+TAB on other apps (like Chrome, Firefox, Nested Desktop) and a game (The Sims 2 Legacy Collection) and none of them froze. It seems to be an issue exclusive to the Steam Link app use while in gaming mode.

Erm... should i open a new thread for this, or does it not really matter?
Probably best to make another thread, just for the sake of slouken and my sanity.

Will do. Or at least, i hope so, because Steam keeps deleting my threads lol
Apologies for disturbing your mental health.
Will try to do better the next time (well... hopefully, there won't be a next time and everything will always be flawless).
Have a good day.

Don't take my comment too seriously... it's more just that there's often been a moment where one of us asks the other "Wait, do you remember which thread that issue got mentioned in?" and then a search of the discussion forums to try to find the original bug report ensues. If bugs get their own threads, it's a great deal easier for us to find that thread again later to ask follow-up questions or let someone know there's a fix in a beta build. ;)
