Steam Link

steamlink app for raspberry pi just restarts itself after clicking on the "start playing" button
Hi guys! I've attached a couple of links to the end of this post that show the issue I'm having more clearly.

I've been searching over discussions on this forum using keywords such as "raspberry", "crashing", "restarting"... but I couldn't find anything related to this.

I've formatted my SD card and installed raspbian buster from scratch on my raspberry pi. After that I only upgraded all packages to their latest version available, and then downloaded the steamlink app.

I plugged in the steam controller dongle on the raspberry and it was detected instantly. But every time I press the "start playing" button, the app just restarts itself. No matter which settings I use, it always does the same thing.

The weird thing is that when I open steam on my PC, I do it on normal mode (not big picture), then I go to my living room and try to connect to it from my raspberry (as shown in the video I uploaded), and after trying a couple of times and finally closing the steamlink app by pressing ESC con the keyboard, when I go back to my desktop PC I find that steam is on big picture mode, and it seems to think it's actually streaming, since it gives me the option to "stop streaming"

- And here are a couple of screenshots with my steam streaming config[imgur.com]

Thank you for your help!

What is the output when you open a terminal window and run steamlink from the command line?
Sorry guys, I should've provided this info earlier. Before this test, my desktop PC was running with a 1650x1050 resolution, and the raspberry pi desktop was running at 1920x1080. This is what the console output looks like using that configuration:

- Right after launching steamlink app[imgur.com]
- Right after the application restarted itself after I pressed the "start playing" button.[imgur.com]

Then I applied the changes @Xenophobe suggested. I went to Settings>Remote Play>Advanced Host Options>(checked) Enable hardware encoding > (only checked) Enable hardware encoding on NVIDIA GPU (since I have an NVIDIA GTX 970 on my desktop). I also set both my desktop PC and the raspberry pi running the steamlink app to 1280x720. I also set the Advanced Client Options>Limit Resolution to>1280x720 and also set the resolution limit to that exact value from the steamlink app.

I restarted the raspberry pi, and the console output now shows:

- Right after launching steamlink app[imgur.com]
- Right after the application restarted itself after I pressed the "start playing" button.[imgur.com]

Thank you very much guys for trying to solve this issue!

also, you aren't using the default 'pi' user name. you should double check that your user name has the same permissions as 'pi' would for the video group (and other groups too). https://www.uberbuilder.com/create-new-sudo-user/ --> section 2.5

That was probably it, because I formatted the SD card and installed the OS from scratch, then installed steamlink on the default 'pi' username and it just worked.

Sorry that I took so long to answer, and thank you guys for your help!
