Steam Link

Steam Link

[Solution] Raspberry Pi 4 64bit Bullseye Steamlink goes back to PC selection
Today I installed Steam Link to my Raspberry Pi 4 Rev 1.1
OS: Bullseye 64bit
Latest build via
sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
Video memory settings were set to 256MB via
sudo raspi-config

I started Steam Link via
steamlink
command.

Everything seemed to work. Network test. Configuration.
I wanted to connect to my PC.
Big Picture on my PC launched.
AND: Nothing. I saw a few command lines and I was back in the PC selection screen in Steam Link.

I found this blog that provided the solution for me.

Special thanks and all credits to Ian Colwell.

I made use of his bash-script:

Script:
#!/bin/bash set -e CODENAME="$(lsb_release -sc)" ARCH="$(arch)" if [ "$CODENAME" != "bullseye" ] || [ "$ARCH" != "aarch64" ]; then echo "This script has not been tested on anything other than 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS 11 (bullseye, aarch64)" echo "If you are running 32-bit Raspberry Pi OS, you can likely just run 'sudo apt install steamlink'" exit 1 fi # Install steamlink sudo apt-get -y install steamlink # Run steamlink at least once for setup prompts steamlink # Missing dependencies sudo apt-get -y install libgles2:armhf libegl1:armhf libgl1-mesa-glx:armhf libsndio7.0:armhf libavcodec58:armhf # Symlink library versions cd "/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf" sudo ln -s libbcm_host.so.0 libbcm_host.so sudo ln -s libvcsm.so.0 libvcsm.so sudo ln -s libmmal.so.0 libmmal.so sudo ln -s libmmal_core.so.0 libmmal_core.so sudo ln -s libmmal_util.so.0 libmmal_util.so echo "" echo "Steamlink installed :)"

I think three libraries were missing for me:
libsndio7.0
libasound2
libgl1-mesa-glx

I also changed the display driver from KMS to FKMS in boot config as suggested.
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
# Enable DRM VC4 V3D driver dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d
instead of the kms driver. Just add a "f" in the middle.

Again special thanks to Ian Corwell for that fantastic solution.

Edit1: typos and format
Edit2:

For those that miss sounds, check if HDMI group/mode/drive are uncommented. This change is necessary, because we changed the display driver from KMS to legacy FKMS. FKMS is not able to handle audio automatically like KMS. Solution found here:
https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/32717/how-to-enable-sound-on-hdmi
and here:
https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/config_txt.html#raspberry-pi-4-hdmi-pipeline
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA) hdmi_group=1 hdmi_mode=16 # uncomment to force HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in DMT (computer monitor) modes hdmi_drive=2

hdmi_mode=16 is 1080p60
hdmi_mode=107 is 2160p60

Edit3: Thanks to TheMalsmaker who made a suggestion in case the script is interrupted by the start of Steamlink

A little additional note, for some reason the script started Steam Link app before it was done. Exit out of the app and the script will continue until complete.
