Steam Link Segmentation Fault on Pi5 with Composite Output
I am trying to play Hollow Knight on a CRT that I have hooked up to a Pi5 through SteamLink to my Mac. As soon as I press "Start Playing" on the Pi the process crashes with the following log:
Starting Streaming Received authorization proof request, responding with encrypted challenge Received start streaming response k_ERemoteDeviceStreamingInProgress Received start streaming response k_ERemoteDeviceStreamingSuccess Initializing player Audio initialized: pipewire Video initialized: kmsdrm Desktop mode: 704x432@1x 59.9767Hz Effective refresh rate: 59.73 Segmentation fault
I think it has something to do with the composite out I'm running on my Pi to the CRT. Are there any known fixes to this? Thanks!

Setup details:
  • Raspberry Pi 5, aarch64, Raspberry Pi OS Trixie (Debian 13)
  • Composite video output via J7 solder pads
  • dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,composite
    in config.txt
  • sdtv_mode=0
    framebuffer_width=640
    framebuffer_height=480
  • No desktop environment, launching from TTY via SSH
  • Streaming from macOS host
  • Audio via pipewire + USB DAC
  • Xbox Series X controller detected correctly

What I've tried:
  • SLR_RENDERER=gles2
  • SDL_VIDEODRIVER=kmsdrm
    SDL_KMSDRM_DEVICE=/dev/dri/card1
  • SDL_VIDEO_KMSDRM_CRTC=0
  • video=Composite-1:640x480@60i
    in cmdline.txt
  • xinit /usr/bin/steamlink -- :0
  • sudo XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/1000 cage -- steamlink
  • None of these changed the behavior

Observations:
  • Reported mode is 704x432 regardless of framebuffer settings in config.txt
  • mpv runs without issue over the same composite output using
    vo/drm
    at 640x480 and 720x480
  • Crash occurs immediately after "Effective refresh rate: 59.73" on every attempt
  • This plugin does not support createPlatformOpenGLContext!
    appears on every launch

The "This plugin does not support createPlatformOpenGLContext" suggests that Qt is not finding the graphics support it expects. If you're getting the shell to come up at all, though, it's probably at least falling back correctly. (The shell half of things is written atop Qt, the streaming_client half is not.)

So that's probably unrelated. Or a symptom of the same problem, maybe.

If you run it on the normal video rather than the composite, does it work? Just to rule out any other factor in the crash.
