Important: The Gemini Notebook mobile app does not support note editing at this time. Notes can be viewed, selected, and used for Chat Q&A on mobile. Learn more about the supported features in the Gemini Notebook mobile app.
You can use notes to capture and organize information, identify key insights and interpretations from your sources, and add your own thoughts.
Created notes automatically appear in the Sources panel alongside your uploaded sources. This means your notes can be used for Q&A, cited in Chat responses, and included in artifact generation.
Create new notes
- Write a new note: In the “Sources” panel, select Create note.
- You can write or paste text into this note.
- Save a chat response to notes: If you receive a response that you like, select Save to note.
- Saved response notes are editable once citations are removed.
- Paste copied text as a note: Select Add sources
Copied text. Then paste in your text.
- This will be saved as a new note.
How notes work as sources
- Q&A grounding: Selected Note sources are used by Chat to answer your questions, just like uploaded sources. Chat responses will include citation chips that link back to the specific passage in your note.
- Artifact generation: Note sources are included when generating Studio artifacts like Audio Overviews, Study Guides, and more.
- Selection controls: Use the checkbox next to each Note source in the Sources panel to include or exclude it from the Chat context. Unchecked Note sources will not be used for Q&A or artifact generation.
Convert notes in the Studio panel into sources
Before notes were created as sources, they were created in the Studio panel. These notes still appear in the Studio panel.
To make them available for Q&A, artifact generation, and citations, convert them to Note sources. Once converted, your notes appear in the Sources panel with a note icon.

- Select Convert.
Convert all notes at once

Export notes as Google Docs

- Your note will populate in a new Google Doc file in a new browser tab.
- Any modifications made within the newly created Docs file will not synchronize with your original Gemini Notebook note.
- Sharing permissions will not carry over from Gemini Notebook to the new file.
