While he has not won a UCL title yet, Kane knows it would be a crowning achievement for his career.
With the new Champions League campaign getting underway, Kane was asked about the teams he considers favorites to lift the trophy. The Bayern Munich striker pointed toward the reigning champions while also highlighting the collection of European giants expected to challenge for the title.
“I think PSG are the top favorites, as they have won it two years in a row, and then of course there are others like Bayern, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona…all the big teams will be there. We are just getting started. We are at the foot of the mountain and there is still a long way to go to climb. Now it’s about continuing to move forward, fighting for this season, and obviously, the Champions League is one of our main objectives,” Kane told Marca (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
There is a clear sense of ambition in Kane’s comments, but also an understanding that Bayern Munich cannot afford to look too far ahead. Paris Saint-Germain has established itself as the team to beat and the standard after its recent Champions League success, but Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Arsenal all have the quality and experience to mount serious challenges.
For Bayern Munich, the Champions League remains one of the defining objectives of the season. Vincent Kompany’s side reached the semifinals last season, falling short of the final, and will be determined to go one step further this time around.
As Kane puts it, however, the journey has only just begun. There is a long mountain to climb, and Bayern Munich will have to prove themselves every step of the way.
