DAIICT Campus Experience (My Personal Experience at DAIICT)

Last Updated : 16 Dec, 2024

I am currently pursuing my B.Tech from the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT), established in 2001 and spread across 50 acres amidst the serene city of Gandhinagar. This prestigious engineering college is renowned for its unique ICT (Information and Communication Technology) course, and I joined the program in 2022 via JEE-Mains.

Having recently completed my 5th semester, I feel privileged that our batch was the first to have the entire college life on campus, which truly feels like a blessing. At DAIICT, all B.Tech students, irrespective of their hometowns, reside in on-campus hostels, fostering a strong sense of community.

College Infrastructure and Surroundings

DAIICT boasts a campus immersed in flora and fauna, making it an ideal environment for learning.

  • Mornings often begin with the sounds of birds chirping, peacocks dancing, and cats meowing.
  • The campus is well-equipped with lecture theaters, faculty blocks, research labs, classrooms, libraries, hostels, and a sports complex.

A unique aspect of DAIICT is the biodiversity—it is home to over 100 species of birds, adding a touch of nature to everyday life.

The Beginning of My Journey

Leaving home for the first time was an emotional milestone. Being surrounded by people from diverse cultural backgrounds was exciting and slightly overwhelming. My first semester was a time of exploration—meeting new people, adapting to the campus, and enjoying simple academics.

Campus Clubs, Committees, and Activities

DAIICT has a vibrant community of clubs and committees that enhance personal and professional growth.

Clubs and Committees:

  • Cultural Clubs: Khoj (Drama), Dance Club, Khelaiya (Folk Dance), Cubing Club.
  • Technical Clubs: Programming Club, MSTC, IEEE.
  • Committees: SPC (Student Placement Cell), HMC (Hostel Management Committee), Academic Committee.

I became a member of Khoj (The Drama Society) and participated in various events such as stage plays, street plays, and inter-college competitions. A highlight was performing at BITS Pilani Goa during their inter-college fest. Being part of Khoj taught me teamwork, improved my communication skills, and boosted my confidence.

College Festivals and Hackathons

DAIICT celebrates cultural festivals such as Janmashtami, Navratri, Diwali, Holi, and more, with active participation from students and faculty. Among these, Navratri holds a special place in my heart, as it brought the entire campus together in celebration.

The annual fest, SYNAPSE, features various non-technical events. I participated in the street play competition and hosted events like stage plays and dance contests, which significantly boosted my stage presence.

Hackathons:

DAIICT encourages innovation through numerous hackathons:

  1. W.O.C (Winter of Code): Organized by MSTC, this month-long hackathon mentors participants to solve real-life problems using technologies like MERN and Django.
  2. HackOut: A 3-day inter-college hackathon organized by Synapse, where participants develop solutions for provided problem statements.
  3. ML Hackathon: Organized by the AI Club, focusing on AI and ML-based projects.

Participating in these hackathons enhanced my problem-solving skills and taught me how to work effectively under pressure.

Academics and Group Projects

Academics at DAIICT go beyond lectures and exams. We engage in real-world group projects, which often involve diverse opinions and collaborative problem-solving. These experiences have taught me:

  • How to deal with differing perspectives.
  • The importance of convincing others and working as a team.
  • How to handle failures and adapt quickly to find solutions.

Hostel Life

Hostel life has been one of the most memorable aspects of my time at DAIICT. Meeting people from diverse cultural backgrounds has been enriching.

  • Midnight snacks, late-night talks, and wandering around campus for no reason were common and unforgettable experiences.
  • My roommate initially felt like a challenge, but over time, we built a strong bond that made separation difficult.

The hostel taught me life lessons such as budgeting, independence, time management, and the resilience to face challenges alone.

Faculty, Evaluation, and Placements

Faculty and Evaluation:

The faculty at DAIICT are experts in their domains, offering in-depth knowledge and mentorship. Evaluation methods include exams, assignments, and project-based assessments, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
Teaching Assistants (TAs) bridge the gap between faculty and students, providing valuable guidance. I frequently reached out to my TAs and professors for additional help, and they were always welcoming and supportive.

Placements:

Placements at DAIICT are managed by a dedicated Student Placement Cell (SPC), which provides resources and guidance.

  • Senior students and SPC members offered valuable insights and tips for placement preparation.
  • Companies like Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, and BNY Mellon are among the top recruiters.

Final Thoughts

My journey at DAIICT has been transformative, offering a perfect balance of academics, cultural events, and personal growth. From participating in hackathons and drama competitions to tackling real-world projects and building lifelong friendships, every experience has shaped me into a more confident and capable individual.

DAIICT is more than just a college—it’s a place where learning meets life. For anyone considering joining, you can look forward to an incredible journey filled with opportunities, challenges, and growth!
