It was established to maintain high standards of teaching and scholarly activity in engineering, technology, and sciences. The institute started its first academic session in July 2009 with 97 students in three undergraduate programs: CSE: Computer Science and Engineering, ECE: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical: mechanical engineering. In the beginning, the classes were taken at IIT Roorkee but later in 2010, the institute was shifted to its temporary campus in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. The university has expanded and has a land at Kamand Valley which was opened in 2012 for most of the learning activities.
