Mastercard Software Interview Experience for Development Engineer Intership (On-Campus) 2023

Mastercard came to our campus this mid-September (2023) . There were a total of 4 Rounds: Coding Round followed by 2 Technical + HR Interview Round.

Round 1: Online Assessment ( 2 Coding questions 1Hr)

  1. Basic string Problem (Easy) - Count frequency of each consecutive same letter eg.str="aaabbcdddd" ans="a3b2c1d4"
  2. Graph Problem

35/600 students were shortlisted for later rounds.

Round 2: Techincal + HR Interview ( Around 1 Hr)

So the technical interview began with a greeting and "Introduce yourself" and then switched to the technical part.

  1. Project Discussion
    • They ask me to explain my projects and then ask some questions about them.
    • Ask about the technologies and algorithms I used.
    • Told me to explain how my projects can be used in real life
    • Give me a real-life situation and ask me about how I will solve it. eg. I have data on college students. What can I do with this data?
  2. DSA questions
  3. Database questions
  4. HR questions :
    • Given me situations and ask me about what I would do in that case.
    • Asked me about my mistakes, strengths, weaknesses, and teamwork.

Round 3: Technical (Around 40mins)

  1. Project Discussion
  2. Ask me about 4 Party model used in transactions
  3. Based on my previous question answer, further, he took me to encryption and decryption of data.
  4. Database :
    • Sql and nosql (diffrence and advantages)
    • Indexing in both databased
    • Paging and clustering
  5. DSA questions

Round 4: HR(Around 15 mins)

  1. Start with an informal introduction about me, my family, school, college, hobbies, etc
  2. Why would like to join Mastercard?
  3. What difficulties am I facing living in a hostel?
  4. What do my parents expect of me, and what am I doing to meet those expectations?
  5. Situation-based questions: e.g., you are arguing with your manager. How would you resolve it?

A total of 12 students were selected for Mastercard Internship 2023.

  • Tips
    • Practice DSA well to clear the online coding round.
    • Do some good projects and make a good resume.
    • Be realistic and confident during the interview. Don't bluff anything.
    • Study well about the company and let their values reflect in your answers.
