The New York Giants’ front office was busy on this final weekend before the season starts. The team agreed to terms on extensions with veteran quarterback Jameis Winston and guard Jon Runyan on Sunday, according to a league source who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the deals.

Winston’s deal is for two years and $13 million, while Runyan is getting two years for $22 million, with $21.5 million guaranteed.
The Winston move solidifies the Giants’ quarterback room with the 32-year-old backup and starter Jaxson Dart paired for the next few seasons. Winston has been a vocal leader for the Giants since his first year in New York, and he was one of eight players voted onto a team leadership group under new coach John Harbaugh.
Winston arrived in New York in 2025, signing a two-year, $8 million contract with the Giants worth up to $16 million with incentives. Winston’s signing last year added some much-needed stability to the quarterback room after pursuits of Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers left only Tommy DeVito on the roster. The Giants added Russell Wilson and later drafted Dart as a late first-round pick.
Last season, Winston played three games, going 37-for-66 for 567 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
The No. 1 pick in 2015 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winston spent the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns after a stint with the New Orleans Saints from 2020 to 2023.
Runyan’s deal will keep him in New York through 2028 as the Giants solidify their offensive line into the future. The 29-year-old is on the same timeline as right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, who re-signed on a three-year, $39 million contract in March. Left tackle Andrew Thomas and rookie right guard Francis Mauigoa are under contract through 2029. Center is the only unsettled position for the future, as 2023 second-round pick John Michael Schmitz is in the final year of his rookie contract.
Runyan has been solid but unspectacular since signing a three-year, $30 million contract with the Giants in 2024. The 6-foot-4, 307-pounder’s future was uncertain when Harbaugh took over, since the coach favors big, powerful run blockers. But the athletic Runyan has clearly impressed the coaching staff.
The $11 million average annual salary of Runyan’s extension is in line with the contracts signed by Arizona Cardinals’ Isaac Seumalo (three years, $31.5 million) and Baltimore Ravens’ John Simpson (three years, $30 million) this offseason. Runyan had a $9 million base salary this year in his previous contract, so the Giants should be able to lower that and create some immediate cap savings as part of the extension.
