Official: ‘Unbelievable’ Leeds United star pens new five-year deal as Leicester regret deadline day snub

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has signed a new five-year deal to keep him at the club until 2028, after he came close to joining Premier League rivals Leicester in January. 

This is great news for Whites fans, as the 26-year-old has arguably been Leeds’ best player in recent games, and they will have him to thank if they survive relegation this season.

Indeed, Harrison has scored three goals in his last for games, helping the Yorkshire club gain seven crucial points in the relegation battle.

As reported by TEAMtalk, the attacker almost made a stunning deadline-day switch to Leicester in January, before the deal collapsed late on.

Ironically, if Harrison had joined the Foxes and helped them gain seven points instead, that could potentially have been the difference between relegation and survival.

However, as it stands, Leicester currently find themselves second-bottom of the Premier League table – two points away from safety.

Harrison joined the Whites from Manchester City initially on loan in 2018, before signing a permanent contract in 2021.

Overall, he has scored 33 goals in 197 appearances for the club, five of which have come this season.

Orta: Harrison has an ‘unbelievable attitude’

Harrison was reportedly frustrated with his January situation which almost saw him offloaded by Leeds, but now, the club’s sporting director Victor Orta has insisted that he remains a ‘crucial’ part of the team.

Speaking to Leeds United’s official website, Orta said: “Jack is a crucial part of our squad and our plans going forwards.

“I’m really happy he has agreed to commit his long-term future to the club.

“He is one of the most professional players I have come across in my career, he has an unbelievable attitude and only wants to continue improving and I know we will see him at his peak over the duration of the next five years.”

Harrison scored in Leeds’ 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, a win which saw them rise to 13th place in the Premier League table and two points above the relegation zone.

However, the battle is far from over with as many as nine teams still in danger of the drop, so there is big pressure on the winger to keep up his current form.

Javi Gracia’s side are set to face 12th place Crystal Palace in a crucial match on Sunday, so Harrison will be hoping to net again at Elland Road.
