An alternative perspective is that the mural’s remaining largely legible in 2003 is miraculous, a quiet portent that mocks the force that accomplished Grozny’s utter annihilation in the 1999 bombardment. Not one structure was intact enough to be classified as a building anymore.

Guys he broke a window pane and threw out all that was stacked on that shelf to reach my highly coveted James Joyce jigsaw puzzle. He decoupaged the shelf above with his filthy grime trashcan man handprints. May winter never end.
