Intercepted Signs

A sign is said to be intercepted within one of the houses when it is not on the cusp of the house but fully enclosed within it so that the following sign is on the subsequent cusp. For example, in the nativity of Abraham Lincoln, the sign Pisces is intercepted in the first house, which has its cusp at the ascendant at 22°04 Aquarius and ends at the 2nd house cusp at 7°53 Aries.

Some modern authors have suggested that planets placed in intercepted signs are weakened or in some way confined, but this view does not appear to be supported in traditional texts where they are sometimes used as secondary significators upon the affairs of that house. For an example of this see the paraphrased extract from Lilly's Nativity of an English Merchant.
