TRT 1 is a state-owned television channel from Turkey. It was the first television channel to see the light in that country on January 31, 1968 as Ankara Television, and after a few rebrandings, it settled to TRT 1 in 1993.
The channel has been categorized as a general entertainment channel. Some of the topics covered by the channel have included news, current affairs, movies, music shows, local tv series, foreign tv series, sports, and more. Special events have also been aired on this channel from time to time.
Speaking about sports, the channel has made a name for itself with its coverage of European tournaments. The channel has aired games for the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup. Club tournaments covered by this channel have also included the Turkish Super Lig and the Turkish First Division. Added to that, national team tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Nations League, and the UEFA Euro have also been aired on this channel.
TRT 1 started broadcasting content in analog television, which would later evolve to Standard Definition TV. Then, the network unveiled a High-Definition feed on May 19, 2012. The HD feed for this channel has now relegated the Standard Definition option, giving users a chance to watch TRT 1 also on a downscaled version of the HD feed.
