About Non League Premier

History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Non-League Premier refers to the four divisions at Step 3 of the National League System: the Northern Premier League’s Premier Division, the Southern Football League’s Premier Division Central and Premier Division South, and the Isthmian League’s Premier Division.

The Northern Premier League covers Northern England, the northern and central Midlands, and the western parts of East Anglia. The Southern Football League's Premier Division Central and Premier Division cover East Anglia, South and Midlands England, and South Wales. And finally, the Isthmian League’s Premier Division encompasses Greater London, East, and Southeast England.

All four divisions operate on a double round-robin format, where each team plays every other team in their division both home and away during the regular season. The team with the most points at the end of the regular campaign is crowned champion and automatically promoted to the National League North or National League South.

Teams finishing second through fifth enter the playoffs to compete for an additional promotion spot alongside the champion. Conversely, the lowest-performing teams in each division are relegated to Step 4 of the National League System. This includes the Division One East, Division One West, and Division One Midlands of the Northern Premier League; Division One Central and Division One South of the Southern Football League; and the Division One South Central, Division One North, and Division One South East of the Isthmian League.
