About Landespokal Thüringen

History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Thuringia Cup, also known as the Thüringen Pokal or TFV-Pokal, is a football knockout competition for clubs based in the German state of Thuringia. Established in 1991, the tournament is organized by the Thuringia Football Association (TFV) and is open to Thuringian clubs competing in the third division or lower.

As a result, teams from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga (Germany’s top two divisions) are not eligible. Clubs in the 3. Liga, Regionalliga, NOFV-Oberliga Süd, Thüringenliga, and Landesklasse Thüringen automatically qualify for the Thüringen Pokal, which follows a single-elimination format. The cup champion earns a spot in the DFB Pokal, Germany’s most prestigious knockout competition.

In its inaugural season, FV Zeulenroda faced SV 1910 Kahla in the final, with the latter lifting the 1991 title. Two years later, FC Carl Zeiss Jena II became the first reserve team to win the Thüringen Pokal in 1993. FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and FC Carl Zeiss Jena (the senior team) are two of the tournament's most dominant clubs, with the latter winning an impressive 10 titles from 2012 to 2024.
