Readin' A Book

Never interrupt me while I'm readin' a book.

Makes me (Mommy) SO PROUD to have little readers. I hope the habit grows and solidifies.

I hope she has many more nights/days falling asleep to a good book...I have so many to share.

2009 Newbery

This year's nominee is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.
"Hear this tragic tale: a sleeping family, a talented murderer, and an adventurous toddler—orphaned, but not assassinated. Small and alone, by accident and luck he escapes the scene of the crime and climbs a grassy hill to safety. At the top of the hill the boy finds a fence, and on the other side, a dark, quiet place."

We're big fans (especially of Good Omens). I am happy that I can recommend this one; some previous winners I can't see handing to any child.

The drug supply is dry

For November through mid January, I have the pleasure of receiving a steady supply of drug-like books for my enjoyment. Granted, some of them are awful, but almost nothing is as fun for me as seeing a 10 book stack of new books (that are probably pretty good) that is REPLENISHED every week. I am so glad for the day I told a friend of mine that I would LOVE to read for the Beehive Book Award long list. It is not an honor or anything; you just need to know someone on the committee to get the little voting slips.

So, as this time of year closes down, I am left to wonder what in the world can I do to fill my time?!?

Hmm...there is always home improvement projects :D

Good books

As a book lover, I often run across books that I enjoy. Sometimes, I read a book that I love. One such book just made it out of the "to-be-read pile" and into the "read-it pile." I wish it would have been at the top sooner. This book made me cry, laugh, scratch my head in puzzlement, and want to read it again as soon as I had finished. If you have a chance, pick it up.









On an additional note, this book is one of my favorite stories that leads you on a journey that ends with you wondering if it was real or just a fable.
