Author Anna Quindlen reminds us not to rush past the fleeting moments. She said: “The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less”(Loud and Clear [2004], 10–11).

Merry Christmas from our family to yours! :)

2023 flew by! We didn't get a chance to get Christmas cards out this year. See the below pictures to figure out why! haha! They are pretty wild. ;) Buuuut as usual here’s an update on all of us! :)

Clay & Ginger- Clay was released as bishop this year. It was a long five years, but we were blessed by his service, for sure. He still stays busy with work, fixing everything and doing my honey do's! We sure do love him! I still serve in the Primary (children's organization), but now as the primary secretary. The most exciting thing for Clay & I this year was working on our Nauvoo house & big blue. The Nauvoo house got a new roof (unexpected from storm damage) and big blue got a new window above the front porch and the porch ceilings are finally painted. Wahoo! Clay & I both have the opportunity to serve as temple workers in our brand new Bentonville Arkansas Temple each week.

Zach & Savannah- Zachary had a big job change this year! He is now the grounds supervisor for the Bentonville Arkansas Temple. He loves it, and does such a good job with the landscape design. He even received the award for commercial landscape of the month for the city of Bentonville. Savy is working at Jimmy Johns as an assistant manager. In October, they moved to a new apartment that is super close to the temple and in a really nice location. In December they got to visit Savy's family in Utah. We are so blessed to have them close!

Cailey & Jonnathan, Carter, Kayson & Kamri- The Swadleys were busy this year! Jonathan tried out for special forces and made it! While he was trying out, we were so excited to have Cailey & the kiddos here for a few months. We miss those babies when they are in California. This next year they will be headed to North Carolina as Jonnathan begins his new assignment. Miss Kamri turned 1 this year and boys are THREE! Big things are happening for them, and we are so proud of the choices they are making.

Rylan- Rylan is working hard in the landscaping business. He is pretty good with his skills, and he takes care of my yard, too. Annnnd I love it! As always he loves working his Mustang & turning into an even nicer ride. He got a new hood this year, and it is slick! His room looks like a car supply store! haha! He also added two trucks to his fleet. This year he went to the Cowboys Training Camp and the Cowboys vs. Eagles game. Annnnnd we don't want to talk about the last game of the season! haha! Thank goodness there is always next year. #herewego

Cara- Cara is in the 11th grade this year. She is doing part virtual and part in person school at Pea Ridge High School. She is doing well in both especially in Art. She turned 17 this year, and bought herself a "new" car from her Aunt Becky.She loves it. Cara still loves all her animals. She added some Lavendar Ophingtons to the chicken flock this year. Cara is witty and funny, & we love being around her.

Cole- Cole is in the 8th grade this year. He returned full time to public school this year. Annnd his momma misses him during the day. He is turning into quite the young man. He is sweet and helpful. He is quick to give hugs. Annnnnd I hope he never changes! Cole turned 14 in August! He is in band this year at Pea Ridge Jr. High playing percussion. Cole also played soccer, ran cross country & track this year.

We hope this season finds you & your family happy, healthy & warm. I love this time of year. I love reflecting on the past year, thanking Heavenly Father for our blessings & planning how we can improve in this upcoming year. We are so grateful for all that we have & the opportunities for growth that we have had this past year and most of all, we are grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Because of Him we can be with our families forever. What a blessing! :)

weekend in Old Nauvoo

We walked to the Red Front for ice cream, went down the trail of hope, went to the temple,
went on a carriage ride, toured old houses, made s'mores, saw pretty sunset and sunrises, went sledding in the snow, saw a bald eagle nest and the Mississippi River and we were a little chilly. haha! :)
