Back to the school schedule! There is always an excitement in the air that is contagious as backpacks are being loaded with school supplies, new clothes are hung and trying to decide which one to wear the first day, and going to sleep the night before the first day is almost impossible-just can't fall asleep (maybe because all summer we haven't gone to bed too early!).
Conner drove to school for the FIRST time yesterday. He got his license in the summer, but yesterday was the first "official" drive to a school day! No more taking him to school on the first day anymore! haha! So much for tradition! haha! He is now a sophomore in high school!
After returning home after football practice he said, "Oh it is depressing to think school is really starting again!" He worked A LOT this summer and didn't get to do as much "playing" as he wanted to!
Malorie sprained her ankle a week ago today at volleyball practice. She has still been on crutches. She was hoping so bad to be off of them the first day back, but it still a bit sore! So I took her to school. When we got to school I asked if I could carry her bag in for her. She said, "Lets just wait and see if someone walks across the lawn towards the school doors that I know and I bet they can just carry my bag for me!" Auhh yes, mom gets it! Mom isn't allowed in the junior high the first day of 8th grade! That's ok...I probably would have done the same thing! I have to remember they aren't as little as they used to be and they want a little more independence and they REALLY don't want their mom walking them into their 8th grade locker!
She survived her first day on crutches, but she was bound and determined to leave them home today. We will see how she managed when she gets home! Her first volleyball game is today, but she won't be able to play. Hopefully by next week she will be good to go and back out their setting that ball!! She sure has missed playing this last week and just sitting at practice and watching!
Kallie was a little nervous for 4th grade. She didn't directly admit to it, but I could just sense it in her quietness the night before. Brett always gives the kids a father's blessing the night before school starts. In her blessing, he blessed her with a calm heart. I think she needed that. Going to school she was a little quiet, but when she returned home she was all smiles and talkative and laughing like her normal self again! She loved it and really loved her teacher! (It might have helped that her teacher gave each of them a bag of candy!) Plus, she loved playing with all of her friends on the monkey bars! And NO HOMEWORK!
She really has always loved school. She was just a little more nervous this year. She is the one that can't wait to plan out her outfit...from shoes to earrings to hair accessories! This girl loves BRIGHT colors...it goes right with her happy, smiley personality! Plus, she got a new backpack this year that she was thrilled about. Backpacks at our house usually last a couple years or more so they don't get new ones every year...so she was super happy!
Bryce was pretty excited himself! All of his siblings have told him how fun Mrs. Brown is and she didn't fail him! He couldn't quit talking about everything they did, and he couldn't believe he already got a party on the second day of school. Mrs. Brown has a celebration on the 2nd day of 2nd grade. The kids had to decorate a hat to bring to the party for the second day! He loved that kind of homework!
Bryce was all about what shoes to buy this year. He wanted some like his brother's, but told him not yet! He was happy when we found red and black ones...go COUGARS! He also wanted to make sure they ran fast! When trying them on in the store, he ran up and down the aisles to check them out. I have explained to him more than once that it is not the shoes that make you run faster or slower! It is YOURSELF!! Maybe someday he will be convinced, but for now he thinks these shoes are fast! He has been DYING to wear them since we bought them, but I told him he had to wait until school started! So I don't know if he was more excited for school or his shoes! haha!
Welcome back school! Here is to a great year!
