Here are some thing from the Ukraine I found interesting and thought everyone else might as well

The Black Sea

The pictures that I am sending are from a small town called Balaklava (pronounced: balaklAva). It is only about 40 mins from my house but in the opposite direction from Sevastopol. It is located right on the Black Sea and it is VERY beautiful. The cliffs to the water are a few hundred feet. This is where we went for our P-Day today and we hiked around these mountains for about 2.5 hours. We were going to go down to the beach but there was a lot of people and probably not very modestly dressed women so we decided to turn back. In a few months when it gets colder there won't be any tourists and people out on the beaches so I will have to wait until then to take some pictures and see that. Balaklava is famous for housing submarines inside the mountain during WW2. Balaklava was taken off all maps so that it would be secret and so nobody would know that it exists. Now, you are able to take tours inside the underground tunnels where the subs would go. We are planning on doing this next P-Day so I will definitely be able to take some pictures and show you. Balaklava is found at the coordinates (44.49941332478005, 33.59936714172363). Around the mountains near Balaklava are old fortresses and walls that were used in WW2 as defenses. This is definitely something worth seeing when you come with me here to Ukraine!

Cameron was transferred from left bank over two months ago...but I think the people and memories will last in his heart for a lifetime.

Cameron absolutely loves the cold and snow and I couldn't think of a better place for him to be...than in all this snow!

He said this is the first 3 inches of the snow they got on Christmas day...

but by the time the day was over it was 7 inches of snow!!

THE hat...

 

I absolutely love this hat...it is called a Shopka.

It is made with FOX fur and it looks so incredibly warm. This is the first time - Cameron has done a REAL splurge on his mission!!

Gotta love it!!

Christmas in the Ukraine

They don't actually celebrate Christmas in the Ukraine until January 6th and it is called epiphany.
It is there religious tradition that it is the day the wise men visited the baby Jesus - 12 days after his birth!

 

 

 

But luckily his mission president and wife allowed the missionaries a nice Christmas dinner at the Mission Home!

 

We absolutely love his Mission President. He is so kind to send us emails and updates on Cameron and the status of the missionaries!

Thank you President and Sister Abraham for making our son have a Christmas he will always remember!

MORE FOOD!

Cameron says every morning for breakfast he makes himself EGGS and SAUSAGE.
He EVEN made our families favorite (which by the way-he didn't really like when I made it! :)


GERMAN Pancakes! But when his companion wouldn't eat it - he decided to EAT the whole pan!

When I asked him how he was staying so thin he said - LOTS of WALKING and no CEREAL!
(He still can't drink the milk in the Ukraine!)


And this is a type of Burrito they eat in the Ukraine! I will have to ask him what EXACTLY is in it!

He LOVES the food in the Ukraine and said the PEACH juice is amazing!

I can't wait to HAVE him cook us up some of this FOOD when he gets home!!
