Horsey, Ride It
Adeline is now officially sleeping in her big girl room, and thus it means she is out of my bedroom. She slept in a bassinet in my bedroom until she was about 5 months old at which time she exceeded the weight limit. So, we moved her to the bottom of the pack and play and she has been sleeping there ever since. We were trying to finish Owen's big boy bedroom, and get him out of the crib we were going to put Adeline in. Finally all that transitioning is done! Adeline has been sleeping in the crib for about a week now, and is doing great. She is such an easy going baby I didn't really expect the transition to go otherwise. Owen is doing a pretty good job staying in his new bed. When we put him down for naptime, we sometimes have to go in a couple different times and put him back in bed. Once he falls asleep, he stays put until naptime is over. At bedtime he usually doesn't fight so badly. George thinks it is because he is home, but I think it is just because Owen is so worn out and ready to go to sleep at night. We are still putting the finishing touches on each of their rooms. They are functional, just not decorated completely. I have to find the window treatment for his room, put up his name on the wall, as well as the other animal decorations we have already been purchased. His name letters were white in his nursery, but I am going to paint them black to match his new furniture. A little less baby like, and a lot more big boy like. I also need to put Adeline's name up on her wall. She is going to have all lower case white letters. Both rooms are coming together nicely, and I will be glad when they are done.
The kids and I went swimming at George's aunts' house last week, and it was a blast. The kids loved it! I had put Adeline in our little baby pool earlier in the summer, and she cried the whole time, so I wasn't sure what she was going to do in the big pool. I put her in the raft, and she lounged right on back, and just giggled and smiled. I think maybe the baby pool water was just too cool for her. Owen of course did not want to be lazy and lounge around. He was more into jumping, splashing, trying to surf, and making loud noises. Adeline didn't seem to mind all of his commotion. I will admit, it was hard having both kids in a big pool by myself. Adeline tries to climb out of the raft, and I was afraid she would fall in, so she had to be right next to me the entire time, and Owen is such a wild man you can't take your eye off of him either. We decided to go back the next with George so that Owen could really have some more play time. Daddy sure lived up to playtime. Check out the pictures of Owen "flying" through the air. Gosh, the trip with me the day before sure seems pretty dull and boring now. I just can't compete with all that!
Adeline is now going from sitting to standing all on her own. She doesn't even need something to hold onto for support. She will then stand for about 15-20 seconds not holding on. She has the biggest smile, like she is saying, "look at how big I am!" I am giving myself three more weeks tops before I have basically two toddlers running around! Yikes, where did my baby go?! She already has the toddler battle wounds all over her face. Bruises that is, the ones that come with learning how to stand and walk. She stands alone, and then falls into things, leaving the nice shades of green, blue and black all over her forehead. Poor baby!
Owen has been trying to pick her up, give big hugs, and ride her. Yes, that is right, I said 'ride her'. Papaw and Daddy have taught the fun activity of riding on the backs of people when they are on all fours, and pretending to ride them like a horse. Papaw and Daddy buck around, and make horse sounds. Well, Owen sees Adeline crawling around on the floor the same way as Papaw and Daddy, so what else would he think. He says, "Horsey, ride it", and hops onto her back. Obviously she is then flattened like a pancake on the floor. He also gives hugs that are maybe a little too rough. The other day I looked at him giving her a hug. He had his arms wrapped around her neck, saying, "hug baby". Poor Adeline had a look on her face as if saying, "anyone, please help!". I guess the second baby just has to learn from the get go to be tough.
