Brian Lupton - With Good Intent (Extremely rare 1974 UK Folk LP released on PAD Records)

 

Brian Lupton was a resident singer at “The Good Intent”, a pub by The “Mollington Banastre Hotel.” for 15 years.
Brian Lupton also formed a trio called Kinfolk with Frank and Glennis Welcome in, or about the year, 1970, and for 25 years they sang to please, becoming a Cheshire favourite. They entertained at local folk clubs, PTAs, Ladies circles etc. They ran folk nights and spent many years as résidents at "The Good Intent" too. 

 

Recorded live in September 1974 at The Good Intent and released on the small PAD records label (Liverpool).

Jean-Marie Loubry - Deuxième disque (Extremely rare SSW Folk French Chanson privately released in 1972)

One of the best finds of this first half of 24. I love mysterious records and this is a prefect example why I love to browse discogs from time to time. Never heard of Jean-Marie Loubry before and found it by pure chance. It’s French folk not far away from some Kiosque d’ Orphée releases. Seems to be made for personal reasons only and maybe only a handful ever pressed. The music is as personal as the hand writing on the sleeve. It’s very quiet and personal folk. Most of the songs are just acoustic guitar, some with beautiful female vocals in a duo and some songs with piano. But all very gentle and minimal, just the way I like it most. John & Dixie Lacey - Alpha Omega (Very rare 1976? Xian Folk Lp released on Renee Records)

 

Beautiful charming collection of soft moody songs from acoustic male/female duo. With just a pair of acoustic guitars for backing, John and Dixie gently murmur their way through stirring original titles like 'How Great A Love', 'Praise Song' and the minor-key 'Revelation 22:12,13'. Covers of Paul Clark's 'One With You' and 'Let Us Climb The Hill Together' meld perfectly into their style, as does their version of Kenny Gulliksen's 'Charity'. One solo diversion for each of them, John on 'Proverbs 27', Dixie on the gorgeous ballad 'Jeremiah 17:7,8'. Several of the songs possess a spirit similar to Paul Stookey's 'Wedding Song'. Closes with a medley of 'You've Got A Friend' and 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus'. Custom album recorded in David City, Nebraska … (The Archivist - 1965-1980 - Ken Scott - page 202).

Huemmer & Farley - Dream Songs (Extremely rare 1977 US Private Ethereal SSW Real People Folk LP)

 

Very interesting LP privately released in 1977 by Rick Huemmer & Jim Farley.

Extremely rare ! I've been hunting this record for the last 5 years and this one is the only exemplary that has been sold since !

A slightly amateurish side but the result is breathtaking ! Flashes of psych folk brilliance, though a bit uneven. Overall pretty cool and really rare !!!

Unfortunately Roderick S. "Rick" Huemmer passed away on December 19, 2022.
Here is what Jim Farley wrote in his obituary : "Rick and I became good friends in high school through our shared love of music. We played in bands together while in high school and in 1976 we recorded an album, "Dream Songs", on my mom and dad's back porch in West Carrollton. Later that year we went into a studio in Cincinnati to record a 45rpm record. Rick played bass and guitar as well as sang on the recordings."
