A slew of photos from our recent Hamburg adventure. We leave for Sydney in one week today. Hooray! We're even sneaking in a little side trip to Melbourne to visit friends. Admittedly, it seems a tad crazy to swap a summer for a winter but sometimes there appears to be very little difference between what Munich calls summer and Sydney calls winter. Last week being a prime example.

I didn't get around to posting any birthday cheer on the 24th but that sweet natured little man up there is now seven. "I can't believe I'm seven. I just can't believe it!" He requested crispy duck for dinner, a cake covered in smarties and no homework.

Happy Weekend y'all. We've got five parties to attend this weekend. Holy moly! Is it just me or does April seem to be the most popular month for having babies??

A very special little dude is turning 7 tomorrow. Seven. How/when did that happen?!

A day in the life of (the not so) cranky Frankie.

We're off to Bavaria's biggest flea market on Saturday. It's an annual event held during the Spring Festival on the same grounds as Oktoberfest. It is HUGE. People start arriving from 5am, armed with torches to get first dibs on the goods. We're not that motivated but we have booked a babysitter to arrive in the morning. It only took us two years to realise that children and fleamarkets (the kind where you could easy lose four hours of your life) do not mix.

While I'm sitting here putting this post together, David is in Frankfurt chatting to the blokes from Boy & Bear. We only discovered them when we we're in Sydney over Christmas but it was love at first listen.

Favourite colour: Hmm, way too many to mention. I do love coral, teal, cerise, mustard and bright blues. Oh and Dave if you're listening - 11 inch, neon and green :)

Favourite animal: Elephants, for so many reasons.

Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Dreaming about the endless smoothie possibilities that lie ahead, waiting to be whipped up with our new Vitamix. When we can afford one, that is. And good coffee. 

Facebook or twitter: Facebook, especially while living on the other side of the world. I signed up to Twitter for about 5 minutes but I quickly realised no, it wasn't for me. 

Getting or giving presents: Both. Ok, maybe getting just pips the post.

Favourite flower: Australian natives make me feel homesick at the moment so I'm going to go with hydrangeas. 


Favourite day of the week: I love Friday afternoons when school has just finished, O & E are running around outside with half the neighbourhood, Dave has almost clocked off and we have the whole weekend ahead of us. Especially now Spring is here making our days longer and lighter.

Favourite pattern: Anything retro and Scandinavian. I'm partial to the odd polka dot, striped and geometric patterns as well.

Passions: My kidlets! Interiors, architecture, design, travel, fleamarkets/op shops, collecting vintage wares, eating (but not cooking unfortunately), expanding my collection of big, heavy art books and my little garden. Anything/everything Scandinavian. 

Favourite number: I like writing 3 and 8. I also like 7 the 'German way' with a horizontal line through the middle but otherwise I don't really have one.

Skylarking on a Saturday at the Pinakothek der Moderne - the biggest modern art museum in Germany. There are four focus areas within the museum: art, architecture, design and graphics. The perfect combination. Even the bookshop was excellent, though admittedly quite dangerous! David was particularly taken with the display of vintage vehicle design, whereas the works of German artists Max Beckmann and August Macke were the highlight for me. We were both partial to the extensive collection of furniture design. (Hello Eames, Strinning, Breuer, Colani!). Oli thought the old Mac computers 'from my day' were pretty funny. Which made me feel, um, old. I even had to explain the workings of the rotary dial telephones. Again, old.

If anyone is in town between April and July, this exhibition would be worth a look.
