Art for You

One of Tyler's school art projects was nominated to be in a special art show and reception at school. We all got to go and have breakfast at the school and view the nominated pieces of art. Here is Tylers mask...

Spencer had his semi-annual art show last week and we were all able to go and see the unveiling of all the projects he has been working so hard on for the past 6 months. Here is his acrylic painting "Sailing in the Sky"...

This is also acrylic, but was painted on a tiny canvas, probably about 1 and 1/2" big...

The Great Memorial Day Parade

For Memorial Day this year we got a special treat. Spencer got to march in his first parade with the Minooka Junior High School Marching Band, it was awesome! It was a pretty "roasty-toasty" day, but we had a great time being part of the fun. It was a perfect little snapshot of Americana with the small town parade and a service in the town center at the end. Here we are waiting anxiously for the band and enjoying the parade (which lasted about 8 minutes)...
Here they come! I can't tell you how excited I was to see Spencer marching in the band! I have to admit to getting a little teary-eyed, it's just a funny thing about me I guess...

We lucked out because Spencer was actually on our side of the street, can you see him? He was right in step!

The kids were very excited about the band, but they were also excited about the major amounts of candy that were thrown at them during the parade...

That evening we enjoyed a fun barbecue with some friends from our ward. It was hot, but we had a great time anyway.
Carter especially enjoyed the ice cream cone he charmed out of some unsuspecting soul...

Not wanting to waste any swimming time, Sydney and CJ decided to eat their cones in the pool.
All-in-all it was a great Memorial Day weekend!

Mother's Day and Lemon Cake

My sweet kids have now made it a tradition to make breakfast in bed for me on Mother's Day. The menu usually includes waffles with ice cream (Gordon family favorite), and the waffles are usually heart-shaped. I love it!
Steve decided to make a special Mother's Day cake, reminiscent of the cake he made for Mother's Day a couple of years ago, although this year's version was a little more stable. You can check out the Landslide Cake of 2009 here. This year's cake was called Lemon Drop Cake, and it was, of course, delicious. Steve had lots of helpers, including the ever-important "taste-testers"...
Mmmmm.... Good....
The first couple of layers filled with scrumptious lemon filling...
One more layer, and everything is still stable...
More taste-testing...
And, having received approval from the testers, Steve continued forward and covered the three-layer, yummy lemon-filled, absolutely fat-free (because we ate it on Mother's Day it contains no calories) beautiful cake with equally fat-free frosting...
And, the Masterpiece...
So yummy! I was one spoiled Mommy! Thanks guys!
