Last Thursday morning Mckenzie surprised us by waking up with a very high fever of 104. When i first got her out of her crib she started to laugh (which she's never done before) Her cheeks were all rosy and she felt very jello-e. I laid her on the changing table (like i always do) and she continued to laugh for me. It was starting to scare me because it wasn't her usually self. After i changed her diaper i felt her tummy and it was burning hot! I took her temp and thats when my suspicions were confirmed. I immediately called her pediatrician (but because it was before hours) i was directed to go to the pediatric urgent care. When i got off the phone i hurried and got kids to school and proceeded to the Urgent Care downtown but quickly found that THEY DON'T OPEN TIL NOON!! (Thank you stupid lady on the phone for not informing me of that minor detail!) i was honestly on the verge of tears at this point. I called Nathan and he said to go to the Urgent care in the same building as our pediatrician. So i hurried down there and he met me outside. While in line to get checked in i called the scheduling office for our ped. numerous times trying to get in to see our doc but they kept telling me they had nothing available. While i was waiting there it popped into my head to call one more time and ask to speak to our ped's nurse. Once on the phone with the nurse she immediately told me to come over to their office and check in, that they wanted to see her right away! THANK HEAVEN!! We hurried over there and they got us in right away. Within 1 minute the doc was in and checking Mckenzie out. She said she wanted to do a Urine culture and that Nathan better take Callin for a walk because they were going to have to give her a Catheter to get a sample. So off they went and off the nurse went to get her stuff. Thats about the time that i lost it. If you know me, you know that I am so overprotective of this little girl!
Having to holding down my 3 month old while they shove some foreign object into her insides was not something i wanted to experience. What popped into my head next was my own mom and how no matter what we were going through as kids, she was always so strong and how she never lost it in front of us. It was always so comforting. So i sucked it up and did what i had to do. Within 5 minutes the doc was back in and telling me that the sample came back "dirty" and that Mckenzie had a UTI and probably a Kidney Infection as well and was going to have to be admitted to the hospital to be treated and to run some tests to see whats going on inside her. That there was a possibility that something might be wrong with her plumbing. Because babies her age don't normally get infections this young. And thats when i REALLY lost it! They gave her a shot of antibiotic right away. Which you could tell helped within minutes. she started to breathe normal again and stopped fussing. Long story short...we spent a long weekend in the hospital, lots of tests and monitoring went on. She got three days worth of antibiotics and fluids. They told us that everything inside her looks great and is working beautifully. They have no idea how she got the infection.
This experience was definitely a reminder to me of how blessed we are to have our health and strength in this family.

When we got to the Hospital they had a room all ready and waiting for her. And the nurses were ALL so nice!
