Poor Jed

All Jed wanted for Christmas this year was a new TV! I figured with the February switch coming a new TV was not a bad idea. Jed did a little research and finally decided on the television he wanted, a 42" Visio. He was so excited when we went to pick it up. He begged and begged to open it up that very night. I told him it would ruin his Christmas and he needed to wait. It sat under our tree for three weeks, and every day Jed asked if he could open his present early. I held strong, because I knew it was the only present he was getting from me. On Christmas Eve he tried asking nicely if he could open it just one day early. My answer was "No, you can wait until morning!"

Christmas morning could not arrive fast enough for Jed. He ran downstairs and excitedly went straight to the big box with a huge bow on it (I was not wrapping a box that size). It took both of us to slide the TV out of the box and set it down. Jed immediately got a sad look on his face and said "OH NO!" The TV had a huge crack across the screen. It looked like a windshield that had been hit by a rock. He was so disappointed. He wore a frowny face all day. I felt so bad, if only I would have let him open it early!

Well, it has since been replaced (Thanks Stevie) and Jed is a happy boy again.

Other than that we had a wonderful Christmas, and hope you did too.

Christmas Fun

I saw this on a blog and thought it was so fun...I needed something to get me in the Christmas spirit!

Wrapping paper or gift bags?
For Christmas it has to be wrapping paper and pretty bows!


Real tree or artificial?
We have an artificial tree. My Grandma and Grandpa gave it to us (got to love hand-me-downs). It's great! Gramps put it on wheels, so it is very easy to decorate and if I decide I don't like where I set up camp, well I just push it to somewhere else. Although, I do love the smell of a live tree !

When do you take the tree down?
I do not have a set date to take the tree down. Sometimes I like it up longer and sometimes I am ready to put it all away. I remember one year my mom put Christmas away early, got sad, and put it all back up!

Do you like eggnog?
Yes, but not as much as my husband does. He has been buying eggnog since early October.

Favorite gift received as a child?
Santa was always so good to me, I don't know if I can narrow it down to just one gift. Barbies, a trampoline, bikes, the list of amazing Christmas suprises was endless and still is. I must be a really good girl!

Hardest person to buy for?
Easy! Rachael

Easiest person to buy for?
Another easy one! Hayley! I can just buy and buy and buy stuff for her. She love everything/anything beautiful and she has such a distinct style and taste it makes shopping for her simple.

Do you have a nativity scene?
A nativity scene...NO...several nativity scenes...YES! My mom gave me the most beautiful Nativity scene last year (my first married Christmas) and I cried as I set it up. I didn't think I would get emotional this year, but I did. Nothing encourages that Christmas feeling more than displaying angles, shepherds, and wise men all turned toward the Christ child laying in a manger.

Best Christmas gift you ever received?
That is a tough one because my mom always thinks of the best presents every year. But I really loved Christmas on my mission. My mom -sent in a box, over seas- Christmas. She sent all of our family traditions, the pajama's, the decorations (yes, she sent ornaments that belong on her tree),the little elf men that Hayley and I grew up playing with, the food, the music, and anything else she could think of in hopes that I would have a Merry Christmas even though I was miles and miles away from everything I was use to. It was very sweet!

Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I don't know that I have a worst gift ever, but I have received the funniest gift ever. One year Hayley made all of us Christmas presents out of clay. She made me two. A lion and a bowl of spaghetti. Oh how I wish I still had them! I would display them proudly. It is a long standing joke each Christmas as we remember Hayley's homemade presents.

Favorite Christmas movie?
I love them all...Elf, Smokey Mountain Christmas, Charlie Browns Christmas, Jed's family favorite National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and I love, love, love, watching home video's of past Christmases when we were little. Hayley and I have memorized them and quote them all the time.

When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Well, that is negotiable, let's just say I am going to go into STRESS MODE as soon as I realize I have not started yet this year.

Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Of Course, I was a missionary remember? We recycled every gift! It was the only way we could really give to others on our limited budget.

Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
I am going to skip Christmas eve dinner because that comes later. So I would have to say Marsha Hamblins Carmel's. MMMMmmmmm. My mom sent those in the mission package as well. They are delicious!

Do you have lights on the tree?
Yes, what a silly question. Does one put up a Christmas tree without lights?

Favorite Christmas song?
I love O Holy Night! I always have because I love the phrase "fall on your knees!" I also loved an old song about a Christmas bell that my mom use to play on a real live record that she played on a real live record player. I know! I know! I don't even know how to operate one of those machines! I also love The Carpenter's 'Merry Christmas Darling' It reminds me of my mom!

Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Seeing as we live less than a mile from my parents and 20 minutes from Jed's parents, there is no need to travel far for Christmas. But we are still working out a few "Family Traditions" in the Pollock household.

Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's?
I sure can...only problem is I can't spell all of their names!

Angel on the tree top or a star?
Ha Ha! I have a beautiful star on the top of my 'tree Ala wheels'. It's a bit top heavy so sometimes the star does not exactly sit on the top of the tree (meaning it bends the top of the tree over to the middle of the tree, non-the-less I love it) and this year I have improved the placement of the star so the bending is less noticeable.

Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
There was an option to open presents on Christmas Eve? I think not, have you met my mother! We couldn't even open presents until breakfast was done and the dishes washed on Christmas morning! Although, Santa did come every Christmas Eve to deliver our pj's and we did get to open that gift!

Most annoying thing about this time of year?
I love Christmas so I hate to mention annoying things, but I can think of one and it is this; Non-Christmas shopping! You know, when you are out shopping for normal things not related to Christmas and you can't find a parking spot, because even the hermits come out of the basement to shop one time a year, longer lines, crowded stores, and all I am there for is toilet paper, or perhaps nylons or something totally UnChristmas related! They should have a check-out lane for Non-Christmas shopping!

Favorite thing for Christmas dinner?
This is a good one. We have the most unusual Christmas Eve dinner tradition. We eat in a barn (yes a barn) and we eat crab legs, clam chowder, and rice pudding. I soooo look forward to it every year! Jed is still deciding what he thinks of this fun family tradition, but I think he digs the crab legs!

Do you send Christmas cards?
WWWWEEEELLLLLL....I should, and I try, and I ....Um...Didn't get them out last year or this year, so if you are expecting a holiday greeting card from the Pollock's don't wait by the mailbox! Maybe you should consider this "Merry Christmas" your very own personal Christmas wish! P.S. Thank you if you sent us one!

What do you want for Christmas this year?
World peace or something like that. I am not really feeling the present thing this year, I don't know why? I don't really want to give or get much, Although I usually really like to get! But this year I just want to enjoy Christmas without all the bows and packages. I love just being with family, I love the lights at Christmas and the music and I just feel like I am so blessed and have everything I need.

Anyway! Jed and I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season! I love this time of year and for the magical feeling that comes with celebrating something so sacred. I love having an extra reason to remember the baby born in Bethlehem!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

There are still nice people out there

A few weeks ago I was in a tiny little car accident. I know! I know! I just paid the car off in August and I am already ramming it into the back of people! Anyway, It was an accident, and it was my fault. We were all coming to a stop, I thought I had stopped, I looked down to change the radio station and...bump...I end up in someones back seat! The lady I hit was super nice! I kept apologizing and she kept telling me "Accident's happen!" That same evening she called to tell me that she had taken her car into the shop and the estimated damage was about $600 (it wasn't a very bad accident) but, still $600 right at Christmas time, for something that is NOT FUN! She mentioned she didn't care if we went through our insurance or paid out of pocket. The next day I called our trusty Allstate rep, he suggested that if the other party didn't care, then we should probably pay out of pocket to save us from an increase on our premiums. I called her back, but was only able to leave a message. She never called back, never called back, never called back (I guess you get the picture.) Almost two weeks went by, but then my phone rang. I answered, she asked for me, and then said;





Long delay for emphasis...




"My husband and I were thinking, it is an old car and not one we drive that often, so lets just forget the accident happened and you and your family have a Merry Christmas!" I asked if she was sure and she responded, "Yes, you just return the favor to someone one day."

I was overwhelmed with gratitude! The first thing that came to my mind after I hung up was "I am so glad I pay my tithing!" Silly I know, but I felt very blessed at that moment!

I just wanted to let everyone know that there are still NICE PEOPLE OUT THERE! And you can bet that Jed and I certainly will return the favor to someone one day!

Two weekends ago I went to my very first James Family Christmas party!

They celebrate Christmas early and it's held in a Special Needs School (I have to mention that or the pictures may look crazy!) We all received presents, and won prizes. We also spent some time racing on the tricycles. We all had a fun time, and enjoyed some very delicious food!

Jed's Birthday was Yesterday! Here are a few pictures of his special day (and yes we celebrated all week for his birthday too! He had a little something waiting for him each afternoon when he got home from work)

And finally - A Monday off together! In the past Jed and I both had every Monday off, but when I changed my schedule at work and went to days, we said goodbye to our Monday time together. Because of Jed's birthday I asked for today off. It was so fun to spend the day together, we went shopping and we went out to dinner. (Jed chose Winger's so he could enjoy the ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT-WINGS!)

Made fun of for the very first time

I grew up with a very common, well known, average name. It is not spelled uniquely, it is not hard to pronounce...I grew up as

REBECCA JOHNSON

No middle name to confuse things, nothing to difficult for the unlearned.

Then along came Jed. His first name is three easy letters, nothing difficult there either right? The only difference is that his last name is POLLOCK. It is pronounced a little differently then the spelling (NOT POLE-LOCK rather PAUL-LICK). When we were engaged he made me practice pronouncing it correctly. I made a few errors here and there but I am use to it now.

I have heard my new last name mispronounced and misspelled a few times since I have been married. For the most part people are rather embarrassed and apologize that they have incorrectly said Pollock.
BUT... on Saturday, my cute husband and I went to the mall to begin our Christmas shopping. We were at about our fourth store and I handed the cashier my debit card. He asked to see my I.D. and started laughing. I have a fairly normal picture on my drivers licence so I knew it wasn't that, but then he said "Is your name really Pollock (pronounced POLE-LOCK)?" Jed speedily said "Pollock (PAUL-LICK) YES!" The guy just kept laughing and mentioned a few times how funny our last name is. He then asked what nationality it was (laughing as he was thinking of Polish jokes I am sure.) Jed proceeded to tell him it is Scottish. The cashier did not believe him as he dubiously looked at Jed and said "UH HUH?"

It is the first time I have ever been made fun of because of my name. Sad huh?

My Heart cant take this anymore..BYU 45 CSU 42

What a game BYU went 85 yards with less then 1:20 in the 4th QT to come back and win the game. After the game I laid there on the floor not even moving Rebecca thought i died from a heart attack and the rest of my family need resuscitation!! Rebecca told me that i said some words that could make a kid cry i don't believe her but i am sorry honey its just a game!!

Favorite TV show: Jed loves watching FOOTBALL and ESPN and anything sports related.

Favorite book: ummm? His "reading" material includes the newspaper, sports magazines and books that contain titles such as "Ty Detmer: The Making of a Legend".

Hobbies/Interests: Jed always tells me that I am his main interest and hobby, and that his goal is to make me happy. (He does a very good job at that hobby.) He also loves BYU Football.

Favorite food: He loves Chinese food, and HO HO Gourmet (he always let's me know when 'Mister Ho' comes into Costco.) We went to PF Changs the day we got engaged. We went to HO HO's the day we picked out the ring, and we had our wedding luncheon at the Joyluck (all of Jed's choosing). I'd say Chinese is his favorite food.

What you like about him: Oh I like everything about Jed. I think he is so handsome. I love that he is so tall. And I especially love that he is so even tempered no matter what. He is so loving and he always has something to say that makes me laugh.

An interesting fact: On our first official date, Jed took me out for ice cream and answered almost 100 questions about himself that my roommate and I had come up with. (My roommate who knew Jed better than I did told me that he must really like me because she knew how shy he is and that he wouldn't normally agree to answer that many questions about himself -willingly.) But he did!!! Every single silly question I had. He was very honest and I fell in love on our very first date because of some of his answers!!!

Dawson

Yesterday we went to Dawson's Baptism! He is such an amazing eight year old, and we were excited to be a part of such a great day with him! Dawson is a very smart and talented young man.

He was baptised by his dad, and his bishop said so many great things about Dawson. We really felt the spirit and just wanted to say....

I woke up this morning, looked out the window and said "WHAT!!!!!????" I can not believe it is already snowing!

A few hours later I looked out the window again. What do you think I saw? Jed shoveling in shorts and a t-shirt!!!

1. Its cleaning day yea!!! RUN AND HIDE!!! Rebecca bless her soul loves to clean. Every Saturday at the Pollock household Rebecca turns into "Little Ginger" (her mother) and cleans and puts our house on lock down. If I find myself trapped in the middle of this then there is no hope for me. I am like the kid in a horror movie where if I make a sudden move, like walk on the carpet, touch the walls, walk into the living room or go to the bathroom or go into the kitchen or basically get out of bed I am a dead man!! Working Saturday mornings I miss most of cleaning day so when I get off work I have to make a phone call to my loving wife to let her know I am coming home and to ask her what I can and cannot touch in the house. Usually she is caring and lets me walk on a path or tip-toe to my destination. I do love her for having that drive in her to clean, I think it's a good quality... but its tough to lie to her when she finds size 13 foot print in the carpet after she cleans because she cleans on a broom. hahaha I'm j/k I LOVE U REBECCA
2. Rebecca makes me laugh!!! There are little quirks she has that sometimes reminds me of a child. Like how she jumps into bed, how she shuffles her feet when she walks and how she asks for ice cream. Rebecca has a dry and sometimes "LDS" sense of humor that I don't get at times but she has another side of humor that gets me rollin!! Once we got married she became more herself. She loves to make fun of people, she loves food and she loves her all time favorite BACK RUB!! There have been times when I wake up to her putting my hands on her shoulders and making my hands massage her ( haha did you think I was going to say something else?.. Sinner!)
3. I have OCD and ADD every night before I go to bed I have to make sure every door is locked and when it is locked I go back to check it again, usually 4 times and then I ask Rebecca to check it check it also. Even before work it takes me 5 minutes to re-check the doors knowing already that they are locked. I have to make sure I put my keys, my wallet and my phone in the same place every night before I go to bed and if its not put away right then I have to get up and fix it. My clothes also have to be laid out ready for the next day before I sleep. I always have to be on time or early. I can't stand it when people are late and don't make it on time, especially when they are the ones who want to meet at a certain time.
4. Sports are my life! I can't go a single day without looking at ESPN on my phone or Cougaroutpost.com. I have the teams I like and I the teams I hate. My loves include, and always will be, the BYU Cougars, the Redsox, the Philadelphia Eagles, the beloved Sanfanisco 49ers (it took me a long time to cope with the 49ers drafting Alex Smith QB who played for the UTAH UTES) the Celtics and the all time Chicago Bulls. I also have teams I root for when they play teams I hate! The teams I hate are... The UTES!!, the Yankees, Ohio State, the Cowboys and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. I can keep on listing but I wont. I've played sports my whole life, I miss playing football I have always wanted to Coach football (maybe one day I will couch a little league team with my son starting as the star linebacker.)

HER comments:

5. It's a laundry quirk. Jed has to count his underwear 100 times after the laundry is all washed to make sure he has his 11 tops and 11 bottoms all accounted for. (Why he has 11 I don't know?) He starts with the pair he has on...#1... and goes from there. It's funny to watch especially when the tops and bottoms don't match up. Jed also has a fixation with filling laundry baskets, I am sure of it! We have several (apparently it was a popular wedding gift.) If I leave one empty, within a very short time it is filled to the brim with Jed's clothes. I don't know if the clothes are clean or if they are dirty but the basket is full. I have lost all rights to every laundry basket we own.
6. I on the other hand follow Jed around like a lost puppy dog. If he is in the kitchen...I am in the kitchen, if he goes up to the bedroom I am on his heals talking about nothing the whole way. If he goes out to check the mail, there I am at the mailbox. It's not limited to Jed though. I used to do that to my parents and I find myself doing it at work to my coworkers. I guess it stems from not wanting to be left out of anything. I don't want to miss the exciting stuff!
7. Another funny quirk my cute husbands has; Jed has to be 15-30 minutes early for work each morning. It doesn't matter that he never faces traffic at 3:00 AM. It doesn't matter that he just sits in the dark parking lot waiting for someone else with keys to arrive. It doesn't matter that he could sleep an extra 20 minutes a day. NOPE! It doesn't matter, he has to be early! It's a quality he gets from his dad. (I do have to say, being early is not a bad quality. I would much rather have Jed running early than constantly late.)
8. I can sing with my lips closed tight. That's right, it's my hidden talent. I can usually only sing 'I am a child of God' but I have tried other songs. It sounds like a tiny person is trapped inside of my body/mouth and wants to get out. I get very winded doing it, and I don't share this talent with everyone because my face turns red from lack of oxygen while doing it. I can also say "Let me out! Let me out!" which sometimes freaks people out. I promise I have not swallowed little people to obtain this talent.

SCOTLAND

October 4, 2000... That is the day that I entered the MTC in Preston England. What an amazing opportunity it was for me to be able to serve a mission. I learned so much and so many blessings have come into my life because of that one decision. I have such a special place in my heart for the Scottish people. I loved every single companion! And I loved every single area I served in! I loved serving in Edinburgh because when we would go 'chapping' some nights we would hear the Bagpipe music playing for a Rugby game.

I loved Alness because on preparation days we could go see cool sites like the Loch Ness Monster...

I loved Beith, just because it was fun to say "Beith, its what's for dinner!"
And I loved Livingston because I served there for 9 months (half my mission) and I grew to love the members there.

I have thousands of mission stories, just like every other missionary. I have thousands of pictures. I shed thousands of tears. I was so homesick. I was rained on everyday until my underwear was soaking wet. (Scotland has a natural watering/sprinkling system). I loved my mission president and his wife. I loved the office couple. I loved the accent and I loved that they made fun of me because I couldn't mimic it.
I loved the culture and the castles. I loved the battered snickers at the chippie shops. I loved the chocolate.
Most of all I am grateful for the strength that my testimony gained while I studied daily. I loved to teach the message of the restored gospel. I left Scotland with a greater love for our Heavenly Father and for the plan of salvation and for the Savior Jesus Christ. I am grateful for my opportunity to serve a mission.

I LOVE BIRTHDAY WEEK!!!

I love birthday time! I told Jed I wanted to celebrate it all week. He agreed to that and has made it the best week ever. He has been giving me little gifts all week in preparation to my big day and today he was so generous! I have a little lip gloss collection now thanks to my sweet hubby and a dozen pink roses that are so sweet. He bought a huge cake (feel free to come have some :) ) And all this was before my birthday even arrived. Today he topped it all off with tons of presents for me (so I asked if I could have them in increments and spread them out all day long.) Jed is such a good gift giver!!

My mom also helped make my birthday special. She took me shopping on Friday for clothes and then had us over for a big Sunday dinner tonight. She even let me have the 'You are special' plate today! That plate has been around for a long, long, long time!

Thanks to Rachael I have some more BYU attire to wear to the games.
My Grandma and Grandpa from both sides had gifts, and my cousin Misty brought over her cute kids to enjoy some cake with us!
The Young Women's (girls and leaders) also helped make it a special day. They had gifts and cards and it was seriously so thoughtful.
Jed's side of the family has been so cute too! His little nephew Dawson text me a Happy Birthday, so did Jed's sister and mom. Jed's dad dropped off a cute little table he had made for me and Jed's older brother Jeff and his family called to take turns telling me Happy Birthday. Jed's little nephew Holden said "Happy Birthday Hot Stuff!!" Jed was a little jealous that another man has a crush on me.
So I just want to say:
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR SUCH A GOOD BIRTHDAY WEEK!

BYU 44 Wyoming 0 !! & other rants & cracks

Thanks to Jenna and Brian, we were able to attend the BYU game yesterday! Which was another great shut out! BYU's offense and defense destroyed Wyoming. Wyoming fans packed up the trailer's and double wides early, as the blow out started in the first half. It is good to see BYU back in Glory!

A funny thing happened at the sold out game yesterday. In a stadium it is exciting when your team is winning. You tend to want to STAND and cheer during the good plays and during a touchdown. But, apparently in section 124 portal HH, its stadium policy (according to the lady NOT IN BLUE behind you) to yell at your brother-in-law to "SIT DOWN.. SIT DOWN IN FRONT" even though he is clearly out of her way six seats to the right and three rows down. Who sits in a stadium during a touchdown? Especially when the school song says "RISE and shout the cougars are out!" The discussion became heated but Jenna clarified with the stadium usher that Brian certainly did have the right to stand and cheer for his beloved cougars and it is NOT against stadium policy. So Rise all mighty cougars. (P.S. to make matters worse this same lady, not in blue, does not know the difference between a field goal and a punt.)

We had a lot of fun at the game!

I've been domesticated

All summer long my mother has been trying to coax me into learning the art of canning. When she made jam she called me and said she had extra supplies and I could come learn. I did not attend the jam making session. Then she called again when she made pie filling and spaghetti sauce. I started feeling a little more guilty each time I turned her down. So when she called last week to say her homemade salsa was done and that she had lots of veggies left over I finally agreed to learn how to can. (Jeddy really likes my moms salsa so that incentive helped) So, today, I Rebecca Pollock canned for the very first time! I have to admit it was fun canning with my mom :) so maybe if she has enough grapes left over in a few weeks I will make grape juice.

#11 BYU annihilates UCLA 59 to 0!! I was able to go to the game and watch BYU crush the Pac- 10 team, poor UCLA, this was a statement win to prove to the haters that BYU is for real.. Next up Wyoming,

It had me in tears!

Yesterday I was sitting in rush hour traffic (yea for Legacy Parkway to open)and was debating as to whether I was going to listen to KSL's afternoon news with Maria Shilaos or 101.9 The End and the Parker show.



I decided to listen to Parker and Dallan.
They had invited a couple (dating not married) to come play the Newlywed game to win Coldplay tickets. Apparently, they are huge Coldplay fans and e-mailed Parker indicating they would do ANYTHING to win Coldplay tickets. Parker had brought his wife Karen in and Dallan had brought his wife Dayna in to play the game. If the young dating couple won they walked out with Coldplay tickets. It was a pretty entertaining show. The wives gave out a few secrets and everyone was laughing. The young couple (I can't remember their names but I think Brandon and Kiera) lost in the end. It was funny, Kiera would answer her question, Brandon would tell us the answer he had chosen -which would be different- and Kiera would say "Oh he is right I do like that better, he knows me better than I know myself, why didn't I think of that?" At the end of the show Parker asked Brandon if he was eyeing the guitar in the corner. Apparently Brandon had kept looking at it throughout the game. Brandon said "yes, I play a little." So Parker asked him if he would like to give it a shot. Brandon said he did have a little song he had written and would like to play it. He started singing and I immediately started to cry!!!! He had written a song about/to Kiera and it was so sweet and I knew he was going to ask her to marry him at the end of it...and he did! The last line of the song was..."I have a question for you?" I hope nobody was looking at me, because I had tears streaming down my cheeks! She of course said YES and Parker said they had been planning this for over two weeks.
What an adorable way to ask someone to marry you. Kudos to Brandon!!!!!
Thanks for the romantic love story on the way home from work.
P.S. Parker also gave them the Coldplay tickets even though they had lost the game.

Another great close win for the Cougars aganist Washington. Big Block from Jan Jorgenson to win the game from going into over time. To close but a win is a win!
The win over Washington was HUGE next game is a big one UCLA..
