Freaking Out!

I am officially freaking out. Tommorrow I start my new college journey. I am really excited, but so nervous. It has been soooooo long since I was a student. But I am revved up and ready to go. Wish me luck.

The kids finished their swim lessons today. They both passed level 2 with flying colors. Montana wanted to jump off the diving board (unassisted- no one to catch her). She went on the board 5 times, would walk out to the end- get scared- and come back off. I told her to just practice jumping off the side of the pool into the deep water to get use to going under and coming up. I wasn't worried about her making it to the side. So she would jump off and grab the side with one hand- so she wouldn't go under that far. After she did that 3 times- she was attempting a fourth and I told her to take a big breath- and pushed her in!! She did great but was so mad at me- but so proud of herself that she did it! Hope I haven't scarred her for life. Justice stuck to the shallow- which was just fine with me. Onto Level 3 next summer. Ugh- summer is almost over- that makes me sad, but it will be nice to get back in a routine!!

HELP!!!

Ok so Justice is completely out of control lately. Eric and I are at our wits end, as well as his sisters. He has gotten in the habit of throwing a complete tantrum (a "Thrombo" as we call it!) about every frickin thing. What we eat, where we go, what time it is, doing chores, playing with friends, what movie to watch, bedtime, bathtime, Tae Kwon Do time, church time--honestly we can't take it anymore. We have tried absolutely everything to get him to chill out. We try to just ignore it and not give him the attention he wants from his bad behavior; we have tried bribing, timeouts, grounding, spanking (sorry to say), positive reinforcement (stickers, quarters for good behavior), NOTHING seems to work. We have stuck with the ignoring and distracting method for the longest time. Where he starts having a thrombo and we tickle him, or I just start singing a soothing song, or just talking to him in a calm voice. IT IS SO HARD!!!! Is anyone else going through this- or have gone through it and can give us advice??? If he wasn't so sweet and lovable when he is in a good mood- I am sure we would have sold him to the gypsies or indians by now!! His friends parents and teachers all tell us how well behaved and polite he is. I give them the look like "Are you talking about my boy??". How can we help this kid without making us crazy in the process??? Help!!!

Splish Splash

Justice and Tana have started swim lessons for the summer. They get to go every morning for 30 minutes. They LOVE swimming but are both so afraid to go where they can't touch. Hopefully we can get them treading water this year so they can enjoy it more. Here are some pics of them in action!

12. Who mows the lawn? Eric. He gets upset with me if I do it (although I think he secretly appreciates it).
13. Who cooks dinner? Eric 95% of the time. I absolutely hate to cook. He loves to grill and use all the spices (and dishes!). He is a master griller, but he can make anything and it always turn out fantastic. Our rule has become- you cook, I do the dishes.
14. Who is more stubborn? Eric says me, I say he is!!
15. Who kissed who first? I think it was date #3 or 4 and he still hadn't kissed me. So I took matters into my own hands.
16. Who asked who out? Eric had asked me to go for a ride in his new sportscar several times but I kept saying no because he was asking everyone in the office. He finally asked me on a REAL date after stalling for about a week (wow, he was so shy back then).
17. Who proposed? Eric did. Over a romantic candle lit dinner. Awwww.
18. Who is more sensitive? We are both sensitive- he just doesn't show it. I cry at the drop of a hat.
19. Who has more siblings? Eric has 2 brothers. I have one brother.
20. What were you doing 10 years ago? We had just started dating!! Wow time flies!

Belly Dancing

Over the weekend Eric and I and some of our friends went to the coolest restaurant called the Cedars of Lebanon. It's downtown. It's an authentic Middle Eastern food restaurant. I had no idea what to expect or what to order, as it was my first time eating this kind of stuff. We just ordered a little bit of everything and we all shared. WOW! It was amazing. Pastilla, Hummus, couscous, lamb kebobs, falafel, all kinds of stuff. Yummy! They had a belly dancer and some awesome music. She got Eric to dance with her- that was the highlight of the evening!! My pics turned out crappy- but trust me, it was a sight to behold. After dinner, we sat outside and experimented with some Apple Hooka- I'm not a fan, but the others loved it! We spent about 4 hours at this restaurant. We had a blast. I would highly recommend it for a fun night out!

Mrs. Nugent

I have decided to go back to school to get a teaching degree. This has been something I have been thinking about for years. I think now is the right time. I am ready for a change. I love my job at KJZZ but I don't want to be doing it for the rest of my life. Once I graduate I will still have at least 25 years to teach before I retire. I am entering the Interdisciplinary Teaching Degree for K-8 at WGU. I would love to teach Kindergarten, but I haven't decided my specialty yet. I have already passed my entrance exams, applied for financial aid and a student loan, and today I have my entrance interview. Then I will meet with my mentor to see how many of my credits they will accept and if I can Clep out of any classes. Then I will have a better idea of how long it will take me to graduate. I would also like to pursue a Masters Degree because you can earn about $30,000 more a year with one. So I definitely have a long road ahead of me. My classes start August 1st!! Soon I will be Mrs. Nugent with a classroom of my own! Wahoo!

Finally!!!

Yeah!! I am so excited! Montana has been taking a jazz class this summer. She came out of class last night and said "Mom, can I please stay for ballet?" Well, of course I said yes. Then she came out of ballet an hour later and said "Mom, can I please stay for tap?" I was skeptical because she has never really had an interest in dance. But I let her stay for that as well. She came home exhausted but loved it. So now she will have 3 hours of dance on Monday nights. I am thrilled! I keep nudging her to take classes but this was all her decision. So we are off to buy dance shoes today!!

Justice gets scalped!

Justice has nice thick hair that needs to be cut every couple of weeks. He has been wanting to shave his hair off for a while. I was giving him a trim yesterday and put the wrong length on the buzzer. Well, we had to cut the whole thing short to match. I think it turned out cute. He is always rubbing his head now. He likes the way it feels. Plus it's nice for summer! Hope it grows out ok!
