That's right, we desert dwellers can surf too! My uncle Gary just bought a new boat that can create a wicked wake, allowing us to surf behind the boat. Don't believe me? Here's proof:

Greener Pastures
As of June 8, I officially changed jobs moving from the software logistics industry to finance. It sounds like a major leap, but it isn't because I'm doing the same work...Marketing/Public Relations. I just get to do a lot more of it now and I'm incredibly excited about it!
My previous position consisted of writing press releases and case studies, and media relations; most of which was starting to be handed off to an agency. Now, I get to write press releases, develop web content, create marketing campaigns and actually design various advertisements and marketing materials. I'm also further developing the public relations process with media relations and social media participation. It's really exciting!
Jon took his first test toward his CFA the same weekend and is anxiously awaiting his results (which can take up to 90 days). Yeah! Only two more tests to go over the next year and a half.
We just purchased a new computer, so hopefully we can update the blog a bit more frequently. The poor thing just died and there was nothing we could do to save it. We're trying to figure out how we can save the data without spending a fortune.
Now that we're in July, I'd like to first say Happy Independence Day. It really isn't that much fun being outside watching fireworks in Arizona. It's still well over 100 degrees even after 9:00 at night. But we endured and were able to enjoy a great fireworks display and celebrate our country's Independence Day with flying colors.

First of all, I am so very sorry it has taken me so long to update our blog! I will do better; I promise!
Here's a quick rundown of the last five months. Seriously, FIVE months?!! I'm sooo sorry!
January: As you already know, Jonathan's birthday was celebrated in January. One of his gifts was a remote control airplane. Here are some photos of the maiden voyage:
After Jonathan's birthday and I recovered from strep throat, we enjoyed celebrating Jon's sister's (Kerri) birthday. Then we lost ourselves in work.
February: We celebrated a few more family birthdays including Jon's dad's on Ground Hog's Day and then my mom's later that month.
We did of course do the Valentine's Day thing...very low key. I'm just not an assorted chocolates kind of girl. Jon of course surprised me with flowers. What a romantic. Work started getting crazy as the global user group conference neared.
March: We celebrated our two-year anniversary. Instead of going someplace exotic, we stayed at a local resort for an extended weekend. I definitely recommend it! We weren't pressured to go see the sites, because we already knew what was all around. The resort had plenty of restaurants to choose from, various pools, entertainment and lets not forget about room service. Jon even surprised me with a couple's massage at the resort spa. It was fantastic! Mad, crazy work then ensued.
We also went to the Wildlife World Zoo with some friends. It was so much fun feeding the animals and watching the crazy monkeys!
March also included Misty's senior trumpet recital. We all headed down to Tucson to hear her fantastic performance. All of us, except for mom and dad who were partying it up in Paris. Misty entertained us with her professional talents. Congratulations Misty! You can now graduate...in December ;o)
April: More family birthdays to celebrate, including our brother in-law Mac (be sure to visit their blog, they are much better at updating it than we are. Oh wait, that's because Alisa doesn't have a real job yet and can update it whenever she wants. Tee Hee! Love ya!).
My work's annual global user conference took place in Washington, D.C. where I was able to meet Sam Donaldson, our keynote speaker. It was crazy busy, so I was unable to see any of the other sites. I only caught a glimpse of the Washington Memorial, Jefferson Memorial and the Pentagon on my way to the airport.
May: And here we are in May, nearly coming to an end already. Again, filled with family birthdays including my father's, my favorite uncle Gary's (only two days apart) and my favorite cousin's birthday.
The other highlights from May is that it is a Movie Madness Month! I think I've seen a new movie every weekend this month. It first started the last week of April actually, when we saw "The Soloist." It was a slower-paced movie, but the acting was excellent. The next weekend we saw "Wolverine." Yummy...is all I have to say about that. Soon after that, we saw "Star Trek." We both loved it so much we actually saw it twice that weekend. I could go on and on about how great it was, but I'll spare you. This last weekend we watched "Angels and Demons." It was enjoyable; not as good as the book, but that was expected. Now I just have to decide which movie we'll see this weekend. Any recommendations?
More importantly though, last weekend we were able to celebrate our brother in-law's graduation from medical school. Congratulations Ryan!

Happy Birthday Jon!
On the second day of the New Year, we celebrated Jonathan's birthday! I was home sick trying to get over strep throat while Jon worked most of the day, but that evening I took him to a very nice steak dinner at Flemings.
Our brother-in-law's birthday is December 31, so we all got together on Saturday for a joint birthday celebration. Ryan and Kerri prepared three delicious fondu courses and we played Catch Phrase late into the night.

Sicko
Before we could make it to New Years, I came down with strep throat. I'm still trying to get better. Not fun! My cousin Dan came to visit my parents with his daughter Adeline this weekend to celebrate the New Year. Come to find out she was sick with the flu, which Dan quickly caught. My sister Misty and her husband Scott also come to visit. Can you guess what happened next?
You guessed it, they quickly caught the flu bug also. Needless to say, Jon and I stayed away. So, this New Year's Jon is trying to stay well enough for his birthday while I get better.

Merry Christmas
Christmas this year was extra special with my cousin's family in town: Les and Char with their five children Riley, Nixon, Cooper, Jaylen and Landry. It's a tradition in our family to all get together on Christmas Eve to bake cookies and treats for the neighbors, have a splendid dinner and to share our musical talents. We were joined with my Uncle's family Gary, Suzanne, Mitch and Kaylen, as well as our cousin's Rich and Shelley. So, we had a full house of 21 people. Everyone has the opportunity to play a musical instrument or sing festive songs. Well, most everyone. Not all of us are gifted musically, so a few of us decided to put together our own rendition of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve/Sarajevo.
Jon and I stayed the night to wake up Christmas morning with the kids. It was exciting to watch them open their gifts.
Our Christmas came early this year when the television went out on us. Jon was able to pick out a nice flat-screen television just before Thanksgiving. We're both enjoying the high definition quality!
My parents presented each of their son-in-law's with new paintball guns so, the Saturday after Christmas we all got together for a nice paintball game in the desert with a total of eight players. Jon was initiated by getting hit in the head. Mitch got a zinger in the wrist, but no one was injured...thankfully!
All in all, it was a wonderful holiday (Christmas Eve being my most favorite, surrounded by family and friends).

Happy Festival of Lights
We kicked off the holiday season by celebrating Hannukah with Jonathan's family. The family got together to cook the traditional dish, latkes or potato pancakes. Everyone is in agreement that Dad makes the best potato pancakes ever!The holiday was made extra special by having the family together to light the first night's candles on the menorah.
The night came too quickly after Mom presented the family with a new Wii system. Watch out, she has a nice right hook!
