Oh my gosh I cannot believe I haven't posted anything in almost a month! Where in the world has December gone??????? It is now 2 days before Christmas and I am working for the next two nights and I still have most of the presents to wrap and all the neighbor gifts to deliver and two kinds of cookies still to make and a soup for my Christmas Eve party at work. Uh, I think I'm in trouble!!
We got a virus in our computer at home and we can't make the computer work at all! It totally BITES! I have pictures to print off for christmas presents and I can't do that. I can't pay my bills on-line. I can't post to my blog :( (I am at work right now taking some down-time). If anyone knows any tricks on how to remove MALWARE, send them my way.
There is so much I want to post about: Twilight, snowstorms, "understanding 'twistmas' ", decorating, Mommy and Me time, but I have to get back to work. Hopefully this list will help me to remember what I wanted to write about.
I hope everyone is enjoying the season and taking time to do what's important to them.

Thankful
1) I am thankful for a job! (two jobs, actually) In this economy when so many people are losing so much everyday and many don't know if they'll be working tomorrow or not, I am grateful for my ability to keep a job.
2) Pasteurized milk.
3) I am thankful that when my cat kills a bird, he doesn't bring it to me as a "present".
4) Kids that live in the neighborhood and are the same age as my daughter, Emma. It is so nice that she has several friends to play and laugh with.
5) Excedrin Migraine.

WOW!
Gas is down to $1.72 at my corner station. I am ecstatic! I keep thinking, "It can't possibly go down any more," but then it does. yahoo and thanks for small miracles.

From My Childhood
When I was younger, about 7 years old I think, I received this Children's Bible for Christmas. I remember sitting on the couch and reading it for hours. Last week when I was at the DI, I found this copy of the same exact book! It is in pristine condition, and it brings back so many memories : ) I was so excited to find it. I think it was probably the start of my whole religious quest.

Thankful
1) For my health. My hips and back aren't too great, but I am healthy!
2) The gorgeous weather we are having! It is so nice to be having 60 degree days into the middle of November.
3) Kate's recovery from her knee surgery. She's just been "upgraded" and only has to go to therapy once a week now instead of twice a week.
4) The chitter chatter of Emma's constant play. I love to listen to her when she doesn't know I am there.
5) A starry sky. It makes me think about more than just myself.

When Bambi Met Suzuki
I was driving home this morning from work at oh-dark-thirty (5:15 am)... coming down the mountain just minding my own business when BAM!!! A deer ran into the side of my car. Now, what is so troubling about this event, other than it happened, is that STUPIDLY the same thing happened to me about 8 months ago, only I was coming into work at about 11:00 p.m. Same exact place on the road, same place on my car!! Driver's side door and the front panel. Last time it was over $1700 in damage. I was sooo furious. I am ok, the car is worse than last time, and I don't know about the deer cause she ran off.

Thankful
1) I am thankful for a long and beautiful autumn. We are being very spoiled this year with weeks and weeks of warm, pleasant weather. This week it is going to be dry, sunny, and in the mid-50s.
2) I am thankful for my calling in the Primary. (Did I aleady say I was thankful for this?) I just really love doing music time with the kids. This week I taught both Junior and Senior primary, and then went and spent 20 minutes in the nursery doing music with them.
3) I am thankful for cell phones. Even tho I don't use mine that much, it is great to be able to contact my kids when I need to.
4) I am thankful for generous neighbors!
5) I am thankful that I was able to work 12 hours at my second job this week; they have been cancelling people left and right because the census has been very low. I was cancelled both Friday and Saturday nights, but I was able to work 8 hours on Thursday and 4 on Sunday. Whew. Every little bit helps.

A thank-you to all veterans
Today we honor veterans for their service and sacrifice to our country. I wonder if any of us who have not ever served in the armed forces can ever imagine or realize what their service means. I doubt that anyone less than 25 years old even thinks about it at all. I am grateful, but I can't really wrap my head around what it would mean to leave my home and family and cross the seas to a foreign land. What would the trip be like? What would I think of during the journey? And once there, what would I face? Uncertainty, fear, doubt... disease, cold, hunger, discomfort, pain, anquish ... probably not understanding the native language... being unfamiliar with the neighborhoods, the countrysides, the roads.... gosh I can't even read a map of my own city, what would it be like to try to read a map of a strange country? And would I understand enough about why I was there... would I have faith enough in my country, my leaders, the purpose of the fight to keep up my morale and my determination? I can't even imagine. There are men and women OUT THERE fighting for democracy and our security every minute of the day and night. How much do we owe them?

Thankful
Since this is the month of Thanksgiving, here are some things I am thankful for:
1# A husband who will, every once in a while, come up to my place of work to bring me dinner even if it is 10 o'clock at night! Thanks, hon.
2# Wonderful memories of my grandparents, all 4 of them.
3# Falling leaves and falling gas prices!
4# Flush toilets. You never think about it, but really, what if??
5# My dog, Shakespeare. He is just about the best dog you could ever want.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I filled up my gas tank this morning for $22.00!!!!! Woohoooo! It is only $2.29 at my gas station. Now I can afford to get a diet coke when I fill up!
Happy Halloween!
I was able to have the night of Halloween off from work, and I spent the evening (2 and 1/2 hours!) taking Emma trick-or-treating. It was one of the MILDEST Halloweens on record in Utah, with temperatures in the mid-50's. We didn't even need coats! We went with friends from our neighborhood while Bryan stayed at home and handed out the treats. Emma went as a PINK cowgirl, complete with a PINK plastic pumpkin! She was so dang cute, and so very excited. She kept saying "Mommy, I really love Halloween!"
Family Roots
Picture is of my grammie, Louise Mathewson, at 18!When I was younger my grandmother, Laura Louise Mathewson Dye, spent hours with me talking about her family. She would get out a big box of photos and go thru them one by one, telling me who everyone was. She shared her mother's journals with me and a journal that she herself kept while she was in nursing school. She told me that she didn't know much about "her people" because her mother was older when she had her (42 years, 10 months and 21 days old!) and most of her grandparents were already gone. She also didn't know about "Daddy's people", (meaning my grandfather's family) because only his mother was alive when they got together and I guess they didn't talk about family. Anyway, Grammie always wished that she knew more about her family, and told me that she hoped I would be interested enough someday to find out about where we all came from.
Well, I've been doing just that for about 10 years now. Most recently, I have spent hours and hours and hours researching and compiling data on my maternal grandmother's family. I feel like I've spent time with them, yet I wish I had much more information. I've even been collecting old postcards of the towns they lived in, the churches and hospitals and schools they attended. I am hoping to make a huge scrapbook, but it may take me another ten years to do this.
This October, I was able to do an amazing thing: I was able to have all the LDS ordinances done for several women on my maternal grandmother's side: my grandma, her mother, her mother's sister, her mother's mother in law, her mother's grandmother, and her grandfather's first wife. I was blessed to have several worthy men in my ward help me to get the ordinances done for all of those women's husbands. There are now at least 6 families who are on their way to becoming eternal families, after being dead for so long. Think of it: my great-grandmother's grandmother and her husband were sealed together for all eternity and had their children sealed to them as well!! (I discovered that all of the children in that family had their ordinances done, but were never sealed to their parents!? Think of the joy they experienced that day when they were all finally sealed!) It was an unbelievable opportunity, and I am grateful for the blessings of the restored gospel and priesthood, and a living, loving Heavenly Father that has provided a way for families to be together forever.

Finally!
Oh my heck, I have been working on getting this blog up and running for almost 6 months now! I obviously don't have much time to work on it, and I hope that now that I am ready to "go public" with it, that I'll be motivated to post often!
It is 1:26 am and even though I don't have to go into work tonight, I am still awake because my body just doesn't know anything else!!
Tonight was Thursday night, and that is hard for me every other week. It's the night that my older girls, Kate and Meghan, get all their stuff gathered up and packed to go to their dad's house for the next week. We have been doing custody this way for our entire divorce... one decade now!!!! You would think that I would be used to it, and I guess that yes, I am USED to it, but I still hate it. I can't stand for them to be gone for a week. I always get depressed on these nights. Some weeks I handle it better than other weeks, but tonight I bawled and sniffled like a baby. I hate to do that, especially in front of them, cause I don't want them to feel guilty. But I can't help myself sometimes, when I am lying on their beds with them while we say "good nite", cause I know it's really "good bye" for a week.
