Asher's Birth Story

On Thursday November 19th I started to have contractions at around 3 am. They were about 1 minute long and 20 minutes apart. Kaile had school and clinic that day until 4pm so I just kept telling myself that I needed to make it through until he got home. They stayed consistently 15 to 20 minutes apart for the morning and afternoon. My sweet friend Catherine took Brecken to preschool for me and Mailey and I had afternoon naps. Kaile was able to get home from clinic early so he picked Brecken up from school and got home a little before 4pm. He walked in and it was like my body gave in and said ok now you can have this baby... My contractions went from 20 minutes apart to 3 to 5 minutes apart in a matter of minutes. It was such a tender mercy, miracle, whatever you want to call it that everything happened how it did. We called Catherine again and told her it was go time:) she drove to our house got Brecken and Mailey and Kaile and I left for the hospital. We got to Mercy Hospital at around 4:30 pm and got checked in and to our room at 5. My sweet friend Rachel who has given birth naturally twice with a midwife offered to coach me and act as an unofficial doula for me.  She got there around 5:30 and everything just continued to progress. When the checked me initially I was dilated to 4cm they told me I could order some dinner and eat if I wanted until I was at a 6.  Mercy is an awesome facility with tubs and showers in every room plus birthing bars and balls. Everyone was on board to help me deliver naturally and to keep me as comfortable as possible. I got in the tub and Kaile and Rachel iced my back and helped me time my contractions. My dinner came at around 7:30 and by that time I had no interest in eating. Kaile thought this was ironic because all I had been thinking about my whole pregnancy was food:) They checked me again and I was only to a 7 even though I felt like I had been in labor forever. I decided with the help of my team( Kaile, Rachel, 2 nurses, Dr Byron and a resident) that they should break my water. They did and that's when things really started to progress. From this point on I don't really remember anything...my body took over and just did what it had to. I remember pain and wondering if it would ever end but every time I started to feel like I couldn't do it my team would rally me with the perfect words - "you can do it" "you are strong" "it will end". Everyone was so amazing and supportive. I remember looking into Kaile's face at one point and just yelling and saying it hurt. He was seriously amazing through the whole process and I honestly don't know if I could have done it without him. At around 10 pm my Dr started to prep me for delivery. I was starting to push and she had me move to my back. I started to push but I couldn't push and yell at the same time so I wasn't getting much done with each contraction. One of the nurses coached me on how to push more effectively and breath and take a break imbetween contractions. Rachel was able to video this for us otherwise I would have no idea what happened because its all a blur in my mind. Needless to say I pushed for about 20 minutes and then our BIG Asher was born. Once I delivered I remember my Dr saying he was probably 10lbs which was just crazy to me. He had swallowed some meconium so we didn't get to do skin to skin right away but when the brought him to me I was just filled with such peace and joy. He was perfect and so chubby and he had hair. I was instantly in love and felt like I had known him forever. Kaile and I both talked later on about how we felt there were "others" in the room with us seeing Asher make his way into this world. The whole atmosphere was one of joy and love and peace. His weight ended up being 9lbs12oz just under 10lbs:) and his length was 22 inches long. I still can't believe he was/is so big but it makes for a good sleeper so I can't complain. I am just so grateful for a beautiful healthy baby and that I was able to have a successful VBAC. The experience of giving birth naturally is something I will never forget and I have proven to myself that I am strong.

Sledding fun

It snowed yesterday so today we dug out our snow clothes and went sledding at the hill behind our condo. Mailey wasn't too sure about this cold snow business but warmed up to it once she saw Brecken and I having fun. It's weird to look forward to snow since I grew up in Utah and I couldn't wait for the snow to melt. It was a fun afternoon and we enjoyed it because this might be the only snow we get this season.

Ward trunk or treat

Tonight was our ward trunk or treat and chili cook off. We had such a great time! I won best chili and got a little prize:) Kaile was carrying Mailey on his shoulder all night and kept telling everyone he was dressed as the bat mobile. Kaile once again carved us an amazing pumpkin... This years jack o latern model is batman of course. What is he going to do when he has to start carving princess pumpkins for Mailey?

What to title this post...

So this past weekend we house sat for a family in our ward. They have 4 kids so it was more than house sitting but they are all 8 and older so it doesn't seem right to say babysitting... On Friday afternoon Brecken and mailey and I were all playing in the sun room off the main living room. All the sudden I hear a popping noise and see fire coming from a floor electrical outlet. I grab Brecken and Mailey and run for the fire extinguisher. I get back to the room and the fire is out (the circuit breaker flipped and the power went off). I asked Brecken what happened since my back was turned to him when this all happened and all he kept saying was "I'm sorry I peed in it". Brecken went pee in an electrical outlet!!! I was just shocked and amazed and thankful that he wasn't dead. I called Kaile at school who came right over and changed out the electrical box with a new floor socket and got the power back on. We think Brecken just thought the floor outlet looked like a fun place to pee... A small hole in the floor... Great for target practice? We honestly don't know what came over him other than he is just Brecken and 4 and a boy. So that's the story of how Brecken almost got electrocuted by peeing in an electrical outlet and how we almost could have burned down the house we were house sitting. Thankfully everyone and everything was ok. Brecken has a good guardian angel and we know that Heavenly Father is aware of us all. I doubt we will be house sitting again anytime soon:)

September flew by

It seems like September went by really fast... Brecken is in 2 day a week preschool and loving it. They are learning about apples and fall. It's so fun to hear him talk about his little friends and what he did at school. His favorite thing to do is play outside and snack. His teacher calls Brecken "handsome" and I think it's fitting nickname for my sweet boy. We went to a back to school bowling party and had so much fun. We still love to kiss every time one of us gets a strike but now we get to kiss Mailey and Brecken too.

Also in September we activated my membership to the Magic House. Groupon did a great deal and so I asked for a pass for my birthday. Thanks Mimi!

Now I can take the kids whenever I want... No more crowded free nights...ever again!

Also in September we have been doing a lot of dressing up. I got Brecken a Batman outfit second hand that he absolutely loves. He also loves his masks and headbands. Even mailey gets in on the super hero fun! He also loves his cowboy boots from Wyoming and usually has them on.

My kids love the bath and especially a bubble bath. We bought Brecken ninja turtle bubble bath and he loves it! Why do all kids put bubbles on their face like a beard?

Maileygirl is getting so big. She is 19 lbs as of her last dr appt and so happy. She isn't walking but she is quite the zoomer crawling all around. We had a fun play date with friends the other week while brother was at school. Mailey is still nursing 3 times a day and my favorite time of day is watching her sleep in my arms before putting her is her crib. She also got moved to a booster seat because she started climbing out of the highchair.

Our August Trip

On August 12th the kids and I flew out to Utah. My little brother Carter got married on the 15th and it was such a beautiful day. Their sealing by Elder Craig Zwick of the Seventy was wonderful my only regret was not having Kaile with me at the temple... Stupid finals! After a whirlwind wedding weekend we all headed up to Bear Lake. We had such a great time playing on the beach, paddle boarding and riding on Papa's boat. Good food, games and cousins made the trip excellent! We also celebrated Mailey turning 1 even though it was few days late. After bear lake we got to go to the zoo and then on Friday Kaile flew in to meet us in Utah. We enjoyed the weekend in Utah with family and of course had to get in a visit with my Grandma and Grandpa Carter. On Sunday Canessa and Bart blessed Lielle and we got to take some family pictures. Afterwards we headed up to Wyoming to spend a week with Kaile's parents. We went to Thermopolis to swim in the hot springs and I just loved it. I could have stayed all day! Brecken went off the high dive and went down the big slides. We then went to Cooke City, MT. The Beartooth Mountains are so beautiful and we got some fishing in on the north fork. We spent the night there and had some delicious Bison burgers, Brecken  also got a cap gun with a holster which he loves!!! In the morning we got breakfast at the bearclaw and I had the most amazing biscuits and gravy I have ever eaten! On the way back to Kaile's parents we did some more fishing and mailey was so happy playing and eating sand:) Later in the week we went up on the big horns to go fishing for brook trout. Brecken and Brooklin had the best time together. We packed lunch and spent the whole day in the mountains. I fly fished and caught 3 fish... Kaile says I'm a natural fisherwoman:) We celebrated our birthdays in Wyoming and Brecken got some genuine cowboy boots from grandma myrick to match his new gun. We headed back to Utah on Sunday and spent the next two days playing a relaxing after our busy time in Wyoming. We flew out on September 3rd and then Kaile started back up at school. It was a great 3 weeks and a trip we will never forget!!!
